Take my word or not, but I can confirm this works. I did it last IB and didn't have any issues.

While in orbit, did you load the tower as your destination before or after the reset (i.e. Did you preset your destination as the tower before the reset, then just click launch afterwards?)

Before, you can't after. You have to join if you don't do it before.
