Bungie, why would the game even bother dropping a legendary engram for me today when I was doing the daily heroic?
After the excitement of getting a primary weapon engram, and going to the tower to decrypt it, it turns into 2 ascendant shards, which are completely useless (I have over 700 of them).
Earlier in the week, I had a vanguard upgrade package give me 1 ascendant shard.
Can you not see loads of players leaving the game in droves due to a lack of content, why does the game have such a ridiculous RNG system that is annoying the player even more? Can you not just drop a legendary weapon for each vanguard or faction upgrade and for each weapon engram, then the player can decide if they want to keep it.
BTW, I don't believe for a second that it's RNG, it's an implementation of that carrot and stick hamster wheel research paper that your "head of user research" wrote 10 years ago. It's about as RNG as Xur is.

5 Legendary Engrams; three of them were Ascendant Shards, the other two of them were both Raku Vindicator...

It would be interesting to see how it all works. I note that when the new raid came out I seem to get mostly Radiant Energy. Now that all my armor is leveled up I seem to get mostly Radiant Shards. Sometimes it feels like my account is being scanned and it is determining what I don't need. Time to put on the foil hat again.
