...that was the question posed to me a couple of weeks ago by a young Guardian I had befriended through another kinderguardian that friended me in the Crucible. He asked me about it a day or two after I had helped the two of them run through their first Weekly Heroic. Both very polite young men, attentive, wanting any guidance they could get. I lined them out on focusing on grinding for marks to get Legendary armor, faction rep etc... even showed them the helmets that Dead Orbit sells to help you out in the hard raid. Get this stuff, weapons will come later. Worry first about your armor.
So I knew what was up when I get a party invite yesterday. four fresh guardians chomping at the bit to see the "Vault in Glass". Three are 29's. one a 24. Couple of Blade Dancers (Gunslingers not leveled! Yikes!!) a Warlock & a Titan. A few decent Legendary guns, more blues, but you know, why not. So I give a buddy a shout & ask if he's up for the task. I tell him that they are youngsters, I'm in my 50's, he's 20 something, what their load-outs are etc... My buddy responds enthusiastically, "I'm down!" I bring my Titan as a Defender, My buddy loads up his Gunslinger & away we go...
After laying out a few ground rules having to do with chat etiquette, one question at a time please & let me answer the question before asking yours please & thank you. These kids got right down to it! Don't get me wrong there was a lot of chaos, lots of dead little guardians, but once they figured out what was going on at each check point, it would get silent and they got down to the business at hand. Confluxes, Oracles & Templar of course took the longest to get through. They were troopers of the first order! Raid Armor & a couple of Praedyth's Revenge awarded! They were ecstatic to say the least! One of them had Truth drop for them at the Loot Chest & a couple got their class items. We managed to kill a Gorgon on the second try ( they wanted to kill them all of course)! but 4 attempts to run through the Gorgon's Labyrinth was respectable to say the least for this fine bunch! Of course a extremely good time was had by all on the jumping puzzle! Didn't take too awful long, but then, who cares if it does? This was about having fun & experiencing something new for these kids! One of the Blade Dancers figured out to use his super to get across even! Little did they know of the trial by fire about to come...
So we explain that "thing's are going to happen at a rather quick pace, so listen up!"
Of course my buddy & I did the Gatekeepers with our G-horns, the kids did a very respectable job defending the plates, keeping the portals open for our return. "Where did you guys go?" " You'll find out in a minute Guardian!" It took us 3 attempts to get the relics, defend the conflux & advance to Atheon. One of the guardians receives Corrective Measures!
Of course we knew the inevitable was going to happen... three of them getting sent to the future or the past, having the Oracles decide their fate. Instructions were given under fire, progress was made. they only succumbed twice! They grabbed the Relic & dealt death in their wake! Atheon crumbles! Three VoC's and Chatterwhite all around!! We even pose for snapshots!
So if you happen upon some newly minted guardians, proudly sporting Chatterwhite & shooting up the countryside give a wave, have a dance.
Edit: Thank you all for the positive feedback!

Good on you Guardian, you are making us proud. I do the same at every opportunity. This is how our community becomes stronger and better! Keep it up! Also you should let us know what system you are on so others can also have the privilege of gaming with you.

Its nice to see a positive post in the open forums... Its one of the best parts of the game is taking people on their first Raids, especially in the VOG... If your looking for a Clan, you sound like the kind of person we like. Only catches are, be over 30, and on Xbox One. Stubborn Old Raiders, check it out, we'd love to have another

Great great post. Written wonderfully. I couldn't help but smile at this. Great jobs guardians! U r the definitions of such. I wish we all could be a little more like this.

Nice Job! We recently took a 28 through VOG Hard. The kid had one person he could talk to due his account setting i guess. Well after the gargons that person dropped. We think he was basically after the exotic chest. We picked up a sixth person and went on. We sent a couple messages and with some pointing at stuff he caught on to the last fights. We wiped one time on Atheon and finished the raid. He did well for playing in the dark so to speak! I was hoping he would get the Vex but it went to someone else! I felt he really deserved it!

Great writing!

Sounds like you had a blast! This is what destiny is all about. Kudos to you sir!

A credit to your race, guardian

Thanks for this. I went to the "Vault in Glass" for the first time a few weeks ago, and have only run into groups that are full of totally cool people willing to help out. Now onto Crota.

Nicely done and nice After Action report! Kudos for helping newbies through (heck, we were all 'new' once ... some of us still are :D)
-
Lol. Hope you are on ps3. I'd like to run across these guys. Maybe take em through crota!

I'd love to take some noobs through the VOG sometime, but it is definitely taxing when you don't have much time. Last night there was one kid doing Crota with us for his 1st time who just WOULDN'T pay attention and had 2 million too many questions. I finally had enough when we got to Crota and could tell it wasn't going to be an easy kill so I left to join the GF who was already complaining and trying to get to bed. Either way, most of the reason why I'd be impatient towards these kids is because I don't have the time. Also keep the irrelevant questions/comments to a minimum if possible. If we're dropping the barriers and fighting Acolytes and Knights, it is not a good time to comment about how the rocks behind Crota look like a smiley face. Just need a bit of determination, seriousness, and maturity from these youngsters.
