...that was the question posed to me a couple of weeks ago by a young Guardian I had befriended through another kinderguardian that friended me in the Crucible. He asked me about it a day or two after I had helped the two of them run through their first Weekly Heroic. Both very polite young men, attentive, wanting any guidance they could get. I lined them out on focusing on grinding for marks to get Legendary armor, faction rep etc... even showed them the helmets that Dead Orbit sells to help you out in the hard raid. Get this stuff, weapons will come later. Worry first about your armor.
So I knew what was up when I get a party invite yesterday. four fresh guardians chomping at the bit to see the "Vault in Glass". Three are 29's. one a 24. Couple of Blade Dancers (Gunslingers not leveled! Yikes!!) a Warlock & a Titan. A few decent Legendary guns, more blues, but you know, why not. So I give a buddy a shout & ask if he's up for the task. I tell him that they are youngsters, I'm in my 50's, he's 20 something, what their load-outs are etc... My buddy responds enthusiastically, "I'm down!" I bring my Titan as a Defender, My buddy loads up his Gunslinger & away we go...
After laying out a few ground rules having to do with chat etiquette, one question at a time please & let me answer the question before asking yours please & thank you. These kids got right down to it! Don't get me wrong there was a lot of chaos, lots of dead little guardians, but once they figured out what was going on at each check point, it would get silent and they got down to the business at hand. Confluxes, Oracles & Templar of course took the longest to get through. They were troopers of the first order! Raid Armor & a couple of Praedyth's Revenge awarded! They were ecstatic to say the least! One of them had Truth drop for them at the Loot Chest & a couple got their class items. We managed to kill a Gorgon on the second try ( they wanted to kill them all of course)! but 4 attempts to run through the Gorgon's Labyrinth was respectable to say the least for this fine bunch! Of course a extremely good time was had by all on the jumping puzzle! Didn't take too awful long, but then, who cares if it does? This was about having fun & experiencing something new for these kids! One of the Blade Dancers figured out to use his super to get across even! Little did they know of the trial by fire about to come...
So we explain that "thing's are going to happen at a rather quick pace, so listen up!"
Of course my buddy & I did the Gatekeepers with our G-horns, the kids did a very respectable job defending the plates, keeping the portals open for our return. "Where did you guys go?" " You'll find out in a minute Guardian!" It took us 3 attempts to get the relics, defend the conflux & advance to Atheon. One of the guardians receives Corrective Measures!
Of course we knew the inevitable was going to happen... three of them getting sent to the future or the past, having the Oracles decide their fate. Instructions were given under fire, progress was made. they only succumbed twice! They grabbed the Relic & dealt death in their wake! Atheon crumbles! Three VoC's and Chatterwhite all around!! We even pose for snapshots!
So if you happen upon some newly minted guardians, proudly sporting Chatterwhite & shooting up the countryside give a wave, have a dance.
Edit: Thank you all for the positive feedback!

It is always a good feeling to help people run the raid for the first time. Good post.!

Best post of the week so far. I have a similar fun story. We loaded up Crota normal since everyone is missing that "one" weapon and one of the guys in the team asks if his 8 year old brother could join since we had a spot. He had never done any raid ever and we were super stoked to run him through. He was so funny and was the first to call out when someone was being attacked from behind. He kept saying "I got your back Snoop." Then he would inevitably get killed. This is where things got interesting. He didn't want us to revive him so he could watch what we were doing. I was shocked that this little guy was smart enough to know that by observing he would learn everything to do in the raid. We finished and he got a Black Hammer and we all cheered for him. We ran it again and this time he was killing adds and calling for rockets to down Crota. It was one of the best gaming days I've ever had.

Well done sir! Nice to see people helping each other out instead of being dicks to everyone "beneath" them.

This is very good of you. A clanmate and I hold "Noob Day" every Monday. We try to run as many times as we can, but it depends on the amount of time each run takes of course. BTW I use the term noob as affectionately as possible.
-
Nice story. May RNGsus bless you for your kindness
-
Nicely done. When the noobs are polite, willing to listen and not easily frustrated, showing people the ropes in a Raid can be great fun. Glad you also enjoyed it. Somebody showed me how to beat the Vault so its always nice to pay it forward.
-
You're a better man then I. I have no patience for noobs.
-
That's awesome!
-
Bump for a feel-good story
-
Seriously though running new players through the vault is one of the most entertaining things I have done in this game. Also drunk people are great to. Props to people that deal with me and my friends drunken raiding adventures.
-
your a good man

I did that with some guys my own age. Lots of fun. 3 hours to complete hard? Whatever. It's all good. It was tons of fun.

"I tell him that they are youngsters, I'm in my 50's, he's 20 something" Bro that is really, really REALLY creepy!
-
Cool story, bro. . no seriously, cool story.
-
Reading through this I realized that my most excited moments were the first couple times I ran through both raids. The excitement of seeing something new, not being frustrated because of dumb mistakes, being happy that I got anything (cause I still needed everything). Now like most people its just frustratingly going through the motions to get that one last thing you need

Yet another shining example of the community coming together to help others without giving it a second thought. Thank you sir for being a beacon of what it truly means to be a community.

Great story, greeting from Italy!
-
We need more players like you. What a great example for young players.

You and your friend are the paragons of Guardians.
