...that was the question posed to me a couple of weeks ago by a young Guardian I had befriended through another kinderguardian that friended me in the Crucible. He asked me about it a day or two after I had helped the two of them run through their first Weekly Heroic. Both very polite young men, attentive, wanting any guidance they could get. I lined them out on focusing on grinding for marks to get Legendary armor, faction rep etc... even showed them the helmets that Dead Orbit sells to help you out in the hard raid. Get this stuff, weapons will come later. Worry first about your armor.
So I knew what was up when I get a party invite yesterday. four fresh guardians chomping at the bit to see the "Vault in Glass". Three are 29's. one a 24. Couple of Blade Dancers (Gunslingers not leveled! Yikes!!) a Warlock & a Titan. A few decent Legendary guns, more blues, but you know, why not. So I give a buddy a shout & ask if he's up for the task. I tell him that they are youngsters, I'm in my 50's, he's 20 something, what their load-outs are etc... My buddy responds enthusiastically, "I'm down!" I bring my Titan as a Defender, My buddy loads up his Gunslinger & away we go...
After laying out a few ground rules having to do with chat etiquette, one question at a time please & let me answer the question before asking yours please & thank you. These kids got right down to it! Don't get me wrong there was a lot of chaos, lots of dead little guardians, but once they figured out what was going on at each check point, it would get silent and they got down to the business at hand. Confluxes, Oracles & Templar of course took the longest to get through. They were troopers of the first order! Raid Armor & a couple of Praedyth's Revenge awarded! They were ecstatic to say the least! One of them had Truth drop for them at the Loot Chest & a couple got their class items. We managed to kill a Gorgon on the second try ( they wanted to kill them all of course)! but 4 attempts to run through the Gorgon's Labyrinth was respectable to say the least for this fine bunch! Of course a extremely good time was had by all on the jumping puzzle! Didn't take too awful long, but then, who cares if it does? This was about having fun & experiencing something new for these kids! One of the Blade Dancers figured out to use his super to get across even! Little did they know of the trial by fire about to come...
So we explain that "thing's are going to happen at a rather quick pace, so listen up!"
Of course my buddy & I did the Gatekeepers with our G-horns, the kids did a very respectable job defending the plates, keeping the portals open for our return. "Where did you guys go?" " You'll find out in a minute Guardian!" It took us 3 attempts to get the relics, defend the conflux & advance to Atheon. One of the guardians receives Corrective Measures!
Of course we knew the inevitable was going to happen... three of them getting sent to the future or the past, having the Oracles decide their fate. Instructions were given under fire, progress was made. they only succumbed twice! They grabbed the Relic & dealt death in their wake! Atheon crumbles! Three VoC's and Chatterwhite all around!! We even pose for snapshots!
So if you happen upon some newly minted guardians, proudly sporting Chatterwhite & shooting up the countryside give a wave, have a dance.
Edit: Thank you all for the positive feedback!

This community need more guardians like you! I always enjoy brining first timers through VoG

I tip my hat to you, sir! I do the same for friends that just started or haven't had any friends to play with since Day One. I'm always willing to help, even if we're doing a Nightfall, halfway through, something comes up, they need to leave, I tell them to go, but leave they console on so they wouldn't need to go through it again. Glad to hear you had a good time! Helping others may or may not benefit you in the future, but your help goes a long way for them and/or the people they meet along the way. So again, Kudos to you my friend!

Good job man I always like hearing these stories. I try to help as many people through raids, but for me it's hard with kids. Seems like you had a good group but a lot of them think they know it all and don't care to listen and learn.

Honest, good, nice people on bungie forums? I've never seen such a thing!
seriously though I wish there more people like you in this world
A 50yr old and 3 kids in vog..... What else happened in there?

Good to see people still having fun in the raids. I'm quite sick of the speed-run, cheese everything mindset that plagues every raid team. At least some people still enjoy the raid itself rather than just the grind.
