Is your friend trying to link his account with either the Windows live or PSN account he originally used to create his gamertag?

He is trying to link with Microsoft. When he goes to the Xbox site and signs in it says he has destiny and it links his profile, but when he goes to the app it says his account is not linked

You should try checking on the website. Sometimes the app is a bit laggy.
