I'm sure there are many people already aware of this, but for those who aren't, it's actually more productive to hold onto the weapons and armour you don't want for a little while longer.
If you aren't already, as you redeem the bounties you've picked up at both the Bounty Tracker and Eris, you should have the items equipped you want to rank up quicker, since redeeming them does that. However, quite often you'll find that you've got things equipped that you've already maxed-out (like your shiny exotic helmet), so none of your other items can get that extra boost. You'll probably also find that if you get an item you've already gotten you're probably immediately dismantling it: don't!
If you max-out the experience points on an item, even without spending material and glimmer on any of the upgrades, you'll get extra rewards when you dismantle it. For example, each exp maxed-out weapon (even with no upgrade unlocks) I've been dismantling lately has been giving me a telemetry of the same type (ie. dismantling a scout rifle gives a scout rifle telemetry). You also seem to get an upgrade in materials given to you as well.
Again, I'm sure this isn't news to a lot of people, but those who don't know about this might like to try.

I did NOT know that. Thanks for the tip!
-
Great tips for those unaware. Especially useful for Crota gear with regards to Radiant mats!
-
Haha are you really telling people to do this? After my favorite exotics had to be reset I only did the one's I needed. once I hit 32 I stopped doing bounties! You know why. Sad you have to tell people to do bounties lol
-
How about more -blam!-ing vault space?
-
I saw you on fruit ninja once...
-
Everyone knows this, however if you've been playing long, ya know a veteran, than vault space and space to hold shiny new things is limited and therefore this isn't a viable thing you can do. Unfortunately. Good advice for the noobs though
-
Does work with Legendary/exotic weapons, doesnt work with armour. Thoroughly tested.

Edited by PSYGEN93: 3/1/2015 10:38:27 AMTell me when upgraded faction gears will get you shader when dismantled and then im intrested.
-
Doesn't work for CE raid gear.
-
not an option because vaultspace
-
Oh, huh, fancy. I had had this happen with a few things but never thought too hard about it and assumed that it was all random anyway.
-
I noticed that when I dismantled an almost fully upgraded Plan C, it gave me two exotic shards instead of one.
-
Thanks for this. Very helpful and informative! :)
-
I usually do what u said. Only when now reached lvl 30 and already having quite a lot of materials, for blue items I just finish it immediately.
-
Thanks for the info! I just hold on to my gear b/c I'm a... hoarder
dun dun dunnnnnn...
-
Good post, I do this with all the purple weapons I can, I have wayyy to many shards and nothing to use them on so I don't do it with armor.
-
We can has Moar vault?
-
Edited by tntbabin: 3/1/2015 9:18:30 AMI've been trying to hold onto my gear for many reasons, but honestly, at least in the case of weapons, I find myself dismantling just to make space. For someone that enjoys hoarding gear, that's a problem XD
-
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the xp you get from bounties get split among the items you're upgrading? Like, if you turn in a bounty for 5,000 with two upgradable items equipped, both of those items will receive 2,500?
-
Why are you a ninja??
-
Did you just realize this....
-
Funny how u advise that but to save those I would need...........M O R E VAULT SPACE
-
Tell your leader, to tell his leader Please make unlimited vault space have no room for my stuff and at least categorize them better
-
I would GLADLY do this. But as it is I'm holding more than six guns per character. And my vault is full. It's a hassle to even switch weapons around lately. My materials have been full since tdb came out. So pulling materials for tele's seems like a huge hassle to me. Thanks for the tip though. But until there's more VAULT space. I won't even bother with another excuse to fill up my inventory. #RANTOVER

No shit.... Shame I have no space for random items, Telemetries or Glimmer, let alone the hundreds of outdated materials. That vault space huh?
-
Good advice but I really just don't have the space for this sort of thing.
