A question for everyone that wants to be a ninja.

Why? It's a terrible job. The members you serve are thankless, the queue of problems to solve are endless, and you're blamed for everything that goes wrong in the forums. Admittedly, I wanted to be a ninja once upon a time. Then I asked myself why. To me, it was just the next rank in this text-only RPG. I wasn't in it for the community. I was in it for me. I wanted the fame, glory, and recognition of being one of the greatest Bungie community members around. I'm competitive, and I wanted it as confirmation of my achievement on the site; as validation of my hard work. Then a couple years passed. I left Bungie.net for a while, and came back to a place without ranks. Ninjas barely stood out among the populace, and the community I came back to wasn't the one I left. Ninjas were the butt of everyone's frustration, and no one seemed to care what had happened to us. In that moment, I realized that the good of our community is much more important than anyone's personal goals. So, of you want to become a mod, ask yourself if you're in it for you, or for the community. Only if you truly want to help those around you, should you even try to become one. Otherwise, just enjoy this forum for what it is.

  • I think it's safe to say in almost any situation Ninjas get blamed for stuff. One the new site, as we all know all too well, they're blamed for not moderating and keeping the place organized. For one people tend to forget how big the community is and how few Ninjas there are. On top of that the invisible moderation system makes it look like nothing is being done. On the old site, however, Ninjas still got blamed for banning a member since said banned user knew who banned them, and in effect the Ninja could be harassed constantly.

  • I think a lot of people who want to be Ninja's forget about all the things you do as a Ninja. It's not just some little badge by your name and that's it.

    • I honestly couldn't care less how popular I am, I just like to be part of the community, have fun and make the forums a better place where everyone can get along. Idk if I'll ever be a ninja but I certainly wanna try to become one not for me but for the community that I love to be a part of
