Destinys Chat (Or lack there-of)

So I found on a thread about the lack of public chat in Destiny, a response from Deej himself. (Link at bottom)
Our concern was that people who are not your friends won't respect the quality of your experience. UPDATE: Sharing all of this feedback with the people who should read it. We'll see what they have to say.
On the plus side, it's being looked into (at last). On the other hand. "Other people may not respect the quality of your experience" What??? Ok, I get it, trolls and such. Thanks for the consideration, but perhaps a tad misplaced? I have to ask, how difficult would it be to mute the troublemakers? I've heard of game devs underestimating the intelligence and ability of gamers (The amount of times you hear them say 'this game will challenge you' only to be easier than the 5x table) but c'mon, thats ridiculous. I only bring this up because it causes some more concerns for me. What other afterthoughts are there? Ok I only played the beta, which was great fun, don't get me wrong. But what about Private PvP lobbies, why aren't they allowed? Is that so there's more of a population within the Crucible? Or what about the way crucible reward system randomises the loot gained from playing? To be fair to everyone?? I have put faith into games pre-release before, most recently Aliens: Colonial Marines where I pre-ordered the £80 collectors edition. (The one occasion I was grateful for a late delivery, allowing me to cancel it before I lost out on £80.) Anyone with other concerns please comment, or if you can help alleviate mine that'd be great too. Still looking forward to the game of course, still got it pre-ordered. See you soon Guardians!!! • It's fine the way it is. This game is ment to be played with friends, if you have none then make some by joining a clan or better yet ask around the tower. I personally don't want to be bothered with annoying chat boxes or proximity chat.

    • Destiny lacks in game, on the fly communication. Most beta players noted this. I don't care what course Bungie takes: Proxy, text, emotes, a party finder. It needs something. Players will leave. I hear ya friend. I was psyched, I listened to the hype. Beta was nice, but not what I expected. I thought the use of my PS4 chat and PSN ID was a cop out. Could have should have thought that out. I'm seeing comments on trolls and immature players in proxy chat, soo ya wanna give them your PSN ID? Blind invite them on your PS4 as a friend? Come on. Then delete them after you find out they act like three year olds. No. Give us an option. If it's proxy, on-off, ban, mutes are a must. If it's text, same thing, add a report option. ( text does not disappear). If it's emotes, better be a good amount of them. You can string them together to say " hi, I'm farming devils lair, wanna join me?" LOL! We wait and see friend, maybe you can get your money back if you don't like it? Doesn't hurt to try.

      • Proxy chat off by default. Devs can restrict it to the tower if they think that's best, or to just the tower lounge even, or let it carry into story mode/free roam stuff too. Lots of options for "the people who should read it" to do, as long as they do something

        • I'm pumped there's no proximity chat, splitscreen, or raid matchmaking. People like to say it's not a social game, and that is absolutely bullshit. The social interactions in Destiny are being set up to emphasize the quality and depth of the interactions rather quantity. If you take the time to make a fireteam to talk to instead of just using proximity chat, you're going to want to stay with that team because of the time it took you to form it, and the difficulty it could take to form another. It emphasizes the quality of the interaction with your fire team over the quantity of interactions you can have with randoms. Same thing with raid matchmaking. If you have to take the time to find a team, you're going to value that team more than you would if you can just randomly jump into a matchmade raid. If you're playing on splitscreen, what's your incentive to go and find someone else to play with (besides being tethered to another person)? While it is nice to have a friend there, it completely takes away from the in game social aspects.

          • I for one was on the other side of the chat spectrum. I fully enjoyed the fact there was no open mic chat. I will still argue that a majority of gamers when playing alone do not use their mics. I for one love the silence. No one trolling each other. No one screaming obscenities at each other every game. No hearing the person blasting music in the background. Or my personal favorite. The person who has their mic on but is having conversations with people in the room they are playing games with. Not talking to anyone playing video games. Nope. Just the people in the room. So to me I guess what's the point of adding any kind of chat then putting in a mute function? I for one would mute everyone all of the time. If my time playing online video games it's usually the other people I'm playing with that ruin the game lol. I have a feeling a lot of people running solo would also mute everyone. So if many people even though they had a chat function just muted everyone how is it different that what is in place now?

            • I have to agree with that comment though, I end up muting 75% off the people using voice chat in Titanfall alone, and muting all those people can get annoying. Even if people are wearing their mic they don't even talk. You hear them breathing, then you hear their mom yelling at them. Then you get people that are talking to people right next to them. You get people that just yell in their mic, which never helps anybody listening or trying to talk. I use party chat most the time and sure I will use party chat in Destiny as well. I am not saying they should leave it how it was in Beta, but I can not disagree with their reasoning either.

              • I am all for an open text chat that players can open and close when they want or need it. I am not in favour of an open mic chat. im against the open negativity and toxicity of some players. Of course if I could also turn it off and on then I would be all for it. To meet someone and bring them in to a fire team where they could join in a team chat. Then silence the public chat again. VtxR - PS3
