Why do casuals hate MLG?

That's like a high school Bball player that loves Bball but Hates NBA.. I hate how it's casual vs. competitive (hardcore) players in the forums.. Shouldn't we be helping each other to make a game that we all love to be better? How can private matches hurt or spoil the fun for casual gamers? Edit: well at least we ALL agree, that private matches won't hurt anyone by adding it to the game. Thank you for the posts, I have a bigger understanding for both sides.

  • Its that MLG players are such arrogant pricks. Fantastic you can achieve something that someone else could given enough time and practice...... you are a significantly better person and entitled to throw around words like "noob" "Scrub", and the ever present in video gaming derogatory term for a homosexual. Congrats digital achievements definitely entitle you to act like an ass whenever an wherever possible.

    • Its its baggage that most hate. All the elitism and rudeness plus anyone can join mlg and what by your own words they are hardcore omg dream on most people in mlg now are what u call casuals. If u have not noticed the mlg elitist is the person who never puts up a logical discussion or they just repeat same stuff over and over. Why do mlg players think all pvp needs to have stats and tournaments i would laugth if bungie removed kdr stat lol all the cry baby bitching that the mlg community will do lol thats when we all let the trolls out lol.

      • Thats filthy casual to you chum. Besides its pretty obvious why. The type who consider themselves MLG are joyless arseholes who suck the fun out of any game the descend upon.

      •
That's like a high school Bball player that loves Bball but Hates NBA.
I sorta feel this way I love playing football(English) with my mates on park having a kick around for fun and just having a laugh but I really dont like playing with the mentality You have to Win just drains the fun right out of it for me =/ but I'm in no way against people who play it like that just not my cup of tea its the elitist side saying that raids a major part of the endgame isn't for casuals and if we don't like it we shouldn't get destiny...... they seem viciously against MM even if its something they would never want to use I have yet to see a casual against custom games being added even if they have no plans of using it

        • Personally i dont mind the gameplay aspects of esports and the like, i just find the resulting community attitude (that some adopt) a real turn off.

        • Personally, I don't hate MLG, just those that have an unneeded and undeserved sense of entitlement and condescension, referring to those who don't live for video games as "casuals" in a derogatory manner.

The people who hate competitive games are not "casuals". In fact, they are probably "hardcore" gamers who spend a ton of time on MMORPG type games, puzzle type games, fantasy type games, exploration type games, PvE. COD is one of the most competitive communities around, has a strong MLG presence, but the people who play it are often "casuals" who want to come home from work or school and get in a few quick, intense matches. I personally consider myself a "casual" and I do not like the connotation of "hardcore gamer". There is only so much time I want to spend playing games. But Battlefield is an extremely "competitive" and "hardcore" game. You cannot approach BF "casually". I would consider myself a "casual gamer" but "hardcore Battlefielder". I think there are a lot of people like that so you have to be careful in how you use those terms.

        • Usually because of two reasons. 1) hardcore players tend to talk down to casual players or think that their shit don't stink. (Even the name casual is a bit degrading, I would be considered a casual player because I am not very good at PvP and don't play a lot of it because of this BUT I don't think there are many people who are more dedicated then I am. In my opinion of course) 2) a loud group of gamers who think they are top shit, but aren't (and are probably 12), call themselves MLG pro

        • I want to be competitive gamer because that's what I want to do. I mean who doesn't here want to game for a living? But unlike others we all here have a life, family, kids, a job, whatever. So we can't. And I believe that's why we (or at least me) don't like MLG all that much. It's great that they found a job doing what they love, but what you mean to tell me you have so much free time that you game...FOR A LIVING?! It's frustrating for me. But I guess it doesn't matter much. If gameing has official leagues like major sports, then it should be treated as such. Like you said, it's like a basketball player hateing players in the NBA.

Because you refer to us (anyone who's not a try hard) a casual, and (generally, more often than not) arrogant, pompous air to your presence. Just because we have hobbies outside of video games (jobs, girlfriends, and, in my case, rock climbing and eskrima), doesn't meant you're worth more as a human being, as typical mlg players love to act. You refer to us as casuals (to me it sort of sounds derogatory, like try hard might sound to you). And it's not like "I'm mad cuz I suck"; maybe I suck compared to you, but I can hold my own. I also have a job, a girlfriend, rock climb, and practice eskrima, so it's not like I can commit 6+ hours a day gaming like some mlg gamers. And because I don't have as much free time, some people act like they're worth more as a person than me. They act like, just because they're exceptionally good at a video game, they feel like they should talk down to everyone else. There's this thing called being humble. In my climbing gym, I boulder problems graded V7, and V8 (its the grading system), but you don't see me taking down to people who are just beginning. Hell, you don't even see me talking down to people that plateau at the grade V5. Yet you see gamers being condescending simply because we don't have as much free time as you. And it's not like I suck at games, I just don't feel the impulse to spend every waking minute on a game just to talk down to a complete stranger about how I am better than them about something that won't even matter. If you're a stronger practitioner of a martial art, you can kick my ass. If you're a stronger climber, you must be in really good physical condition. If you're a better gamer, what, you've got good hand eye coordination? One could argue reaction time for a fight, but if you don't know what to do, reaction time won't help. /rant

        • I've been part of GB and MLG for a long time and lets be honest. Most of the competitive people that care enough to come to forums are usually fairly young and they're dbags.

lmao any competitive multiplayer especially that takes itself so seriously is just dumb, esports in general are stupid as heck. you take something fun and turn it into macho chest thumping crap. oh ffs you are not even talking about actual mlg? calling people that play the game FOR THE GAME "casuals" is equally idiotic, people who play only the tacked on pvp arent "hardcore" they are casuals who only play with/against others on random weekends when their beer guts are too big to play football.

Because casual players don't often use their mics... And when they do, they don't speak in either a redneck accent or a prepubescent squeak about how you are a -blam!- or how they -blam!-ed your mom...
i said words that sound like feggit and feked
• MLG is pro gaming for out of game rewards. Bungie did say they can give people rewards and put them into the game for people to pick up. I personaly don't enjoy chatting with MLG players because they use profesional terms that I have no understanding of there conversation.

        • Not being into MLG competitive multiplayer doesn't make someone a "casual". Playing only mobile games like Candy Crush does.

        • For example, something that ruined CoD is drop shoting. Going prone should be COMPLETELY removed from the game because of it. How many of the great MLG players started out doing that? Too many to count

          • Because everyone who prefers the campaign/non-PvP content is called a "casual" by those who play PvP nearly exclusively. I tend to play on the higher difficulties in Hardcore mode in Diablo 3, does that still make me a "casual"? I go for 100% completion in every RPG I play. Guess that still makes me a "casual", huh? Maybe if MLG gamers could start referring to everyone who games as a gamer and not a "casual", I might begin to care about it.

            • Why do you assume hardcore players are just here for pvp bullshit? Please don't assume that everyone who isn't a filthy casual, is a god damn major league try hard, like the CoD dudebros. That said, I also want private matches
