When you decoded it, not when you find it. I saved all of my engrams from level 1 till lvl 8 and it gave me level 8 equipment

I can confirm this. The last character I took to 8 had all engrams decoded at level 8 and all gave level 8+ gear.

Thanks for doing that experiment and sharing it. It seems like the type of item (heavy weapon, gauntlets, helmet, etc.) are set at spawn, but the specific item is set at decryption. What I'm not sure is if the [i]class[/i] is set at spawn? I should have tried this: 1. Get Engram with my Titan 2. Store Engram in vault 3. Retrieve from vault with my Hunter 4. Hunter Decrypt at Cryptarch Then see if it's a Hunter or Titan class item. I suspect it will set everything EXCEPT item type at decryption.

Class is decided on decription. Know some people who tested this. Got engrams on warlock and decoded on hunter for hunter items.

I only figures out the vault near the end of the beta but I did save my engrams on 2 characters and did not use them till level 8, got level 8 and 9 equipment every time

I got a hunter helmet as reward after completing a strike with a warlock...? I thought rewards and loot is always for the class you play with.
