Consoles are "too limited" for the Oculus Rift

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/11/13/consoles-too-limited-for-oculus-rift?utm_campaign=fbposts&utm_source=facebook
Inventor of the Oculus Rift and founder of Oculus VR Palmer Luckey believes consoles aren’t going to be able to support the rapidly-evolving nature of his company’s VR hardware. “Consoles are too limited for what we want to do,” Luckey told TechRadar. “We're trying to make the best virtual reality device in the world and we want to continue to innovate and upgrade every year – continue making progress internally – and whenever we make big jumps we want to push that to the public.” “The problem with consoles in general is that once they come out they're locked to a certain spec for a long, long time. Look at the PCs that existed eight years ago. There have been so many huge advances since then. Now look at the VR hardware of today. I think the jump we're going to see in the next four or five years is going to be massive, and already VR is a very intensive thing, it requires rendering at high resolutions at over 60 frames a second in 3D.” Luckey points out there are already next-gen games running in 720p “so they can barely hit 60 in 2D.” “It's hard to imagine them running a VR experience that's on par with PC,” he said.
In a nutshell: -Consoles have locked hardware that cannot be upgraded -Advancements in VR technology cannot be made because of the above point -PCs are always upgraded and make bigger advancements in technology than consoles I could not agree more. (This next part I'll be assuming, correct me if I'm wrong.) Will the consoles be able to use the Rift? Yes, but ONLY as a regular screen, per say. You won't be able to actually use the VR technology. Get what I mean? Anyways, good, I'm glad that somebody is doing the right thing and NOT putting something so advanced on a console, because the console version would be terribly cutdown and it would just not be a good experience, and in doing this, advancements in VR would be made very slowly, or not at all. You can tell that the goal of Oculus and their Rift is NOT to necessarily make a profit (don't get me wrong, of course it's good to make a profit) but to improve and advance VR technology, and to that, I applaud you. +1 Oculus

 • Diagree, PS4 & XBONE will easily handle it, its all up to the devs to implement it into their console games. They wont miss a million £$ market and solely appease the PC gamers. PS4's VR goggle will be as you say, but not the Oculus. No chance
