Mars One had begun accepting application for anyone who would be willing to take a one-way trip to Mars in 2023 to establish the first human settlement on the planet.
Mars One believes human exploration of the solar system should be a global effort, greater than the ambition of an individual nation. Mars exploration offers an opportunity to celebrate the power of a united humanity.
As with the Apollo Moon landings, a human mission to Mars will inspire generations to believe that all things are possible, that anything can be achieved. Mars One believes it is not only possible, but imperative that we establish a permanent settlement on Mars in order to accelerate our understanding of the formation of the solar system, the origins of life, and of equal importance, our place in the universe.
Edited by MasterBarek: 4/29/2013 11:35:04 PMI love the idea of being a space explorer. However, participating on an extraterrestrial version of the Truman Show while confined with the same people in a prison-sized habitat for the rest of my existence does not sound appealing. Generally I'm an optimist but I just get this nagging feeling that something would go wrong such as supplies don't make it, somebody goes insane/postal, planetary conditions severely damage the habitat, and then you have a exorbitantly expensive, real-life space horror film playing out on global tv...so that's a definite no.

I actually have things that matter at home.

Edited by RECON: 4/29/2013 3:35:35 PMSo we haven't even put a man on Mars yet and all of a sudden we're going to be colonising it in ten years? Pull the other one. Is this some sort of social experiment? There's no way it'll actually happen. Who'd even fund it? EDIT: Oh, so it takes a registration fee of $57 to sign on? That's convenient. I'm pretty sure this is just a scam.
-
I would totally join if I had nothing going for me here on Earth.
-
The people would probably go insane with the lack of activities and being away from home. When they're up on Mars, they are COMPLETELY isolated. The only form of entertainment to keep them from going insane is each other Basically just imagine being locked in a cell with others for a lifetime and never being able to get out. And you hope you have enough food and nothin goes wrong.

Edited by some passerby: 4/29/2013 10:27:45 AMIts pissing me off seeing that most of them don't have any qualifications and saying that they enjoy games and jogging and whatever. If you want to be one of the first people on Mars you need to be of use to the project and not want to go just because you like space.

Only if we don't find water from a glacier that tries to murder-make martians.
-
No way; I hate demons from hell.
-
Will there be internet?
-
No. At this stage of technology no way in hell.
-
Should go to the moon first and NOT be a 1 way trip.. You should be allowed to visit the Earth once in awhile
-
I hope they send male-female pairs or else it will get lonely there quick.
-
If it was 2023 now and the project would start in 2033 then I would. but Even the moon is a jump for a privately funded mission right now.
-
It would be an amazing, literally once in a lifetime experience. But, I'd miss people and earth.
-
Only if Arab Money is included.
-
If it was to the moon, then I'd be all for it. Mars is a bit of jump for a full settlement right now.
-
SIGN ME UP!
The applicant... must have... visual acuity in both eyes of 100% (20/20) either uncorrected or corrected with lenses or contact lenses
aww shit
-
Only if they have free snacks.
-
I already applied >tfw already know I won't be selected even though I'm physically better than the majority of the applicants
-
Hell no, that sounds like a death trap
-
I don't think I'd go to Mars, but if we were talking about the first moon colony? Sure.
-
Yes, provided I get to keep contact with my family. when will they stop taking applications?
