DESTINY ACCOUNT RESTRICTIONS AND BANNING POLICIES

To whom it may concern, I would like to complain formally here, since you don't appear to have a more appropriate place for me to direct my complaints. Most reputable companies have an email or feedback form - you could consider that as an option perhaps. I believe your policies on banning and account restrictions are unfair and your unwillingness to enter into any kind of discussion on them is bordering on negligent. If you are going to restrict someone's access to a video game that they enjoy and have paid money to play, then I would expect you to give them an explanation for the restriction and the ability to respond if they feel they haven't been treated fairly. If you have changed your policies on restrictions to include situations where temporarily bad internet connections are a factor, you should: a) Make a proper announcement to give everyone fair warning that events completely outside of their control might result in their access to the game being denied. Maybe even a warning on the game itself before purchasing. Something about the kind of internet connection required to sustain a permanently lag-free connection? I don't imagine many people would be able to sustain such a connection, but you're the boss! b) Add the condition to your list of possible factors on the restrictions and banning policies page. It is not very good practice to refer someone to a page on your website in lieu of a proper explanation, and then have that page make no reference to the issue that you may have based your decision on when you chose to restrict the account. c) Restrict all Destiny accounts worldwide, because we all experience bad internet from time to time and have probably all been the cause of lag at one time or another. I would appreciate a response, if this doesn't go against some other policy I haven't read yet that specifies bungie doesn't respond to formal complaints of any description. Thanks in advance, Amanda Pain (I would ordinarily sign off a formal complaint with my address and a contact phone number, but without a proper avenue to direct my complaint, this is a public post and I am sure you will appreciate my reluctance to share my personal contact information with the wider Destiny community)

  • There is technology that can differentiate poor connection due to problems with the Internet provider from deliberate manipulation with a lag switch. When the pattern consistent with lag switch is detected that player gets flagged. When it is repeated the player is removed from the game. http://security.stackexchange.com/questions/31303/preventing-artificial-latency-or-lag-hacking-in-multiplayer-games Why Bungie doesn't use something like this is a mystery to me.

  • Sadly it is the new popular thing to do. They are not alone by hiding a legitimate contact avenue. Because no feedback to them means everything is okie dokie

      • Maybe connection issues? Some people will report you right off the bat for lag because of all the lag switchers a while back. So either you ruined people's fun intentionally, or had the miss fortune to lag because of Internet fluctuation and the kids on here reported you non stop. Anyway while you are banned maybe try another game and lose the addiction. This thing is a cancer right now, and we are all sick.

Sounds like a bad situation all round, I can see both sides to be honest. I'll work on the assumption that you were banned for inadvertent issues with connection. None of what I'm about to say applies to deliberate cheaters. On the one hand it sucks you were banned for something outside your direct control. I'm not sure what actions can be taken but possibly raising it with your console/internet provider might help. On the other hand it likely comes down to a cost/benefit thing. If your matches are effected by connection issues it might be spoiling the game for more than just you. At some point Bungie have to do what's in the interest of the majority of their customers. Even if that means unfairly removing one I can understand why that might be required. Again, not an ideal thing. Ultimately this is a consequence of the fact that in game a poor connection gives an advantage. The game should never have been programmed this way to begin with, and hopefully Bungee will take the loss of customers like you as a sign that this needs to stop.

          • Good post! To get a response from Bungie you have to: A- spend half your years income on silver Or B- set Bungie up to take over all of your assets in your will.

            • Not sure why got banned or restricted, but I do agree that they should provide people some type of an explanation. I do report red bars, not as in a cheat report but just a connection report. I just want bungie to have the data they need to fix the connection mm mess. Although it is rare that I red bar, I do leave the game. I don't want to get reported and I don't want to mess up others' experiences. Good luck!

              • To be honest I always report people with red bars, but then when I've the bad luck of having one I decide to leave the game, go restart my router, offend my ISP for the sh*tty connection I get and go back to gaming, it usually solves my problems. I suggest you try the same my friend, and while you're away from Destiny you can probably try a better game, you know you want to.

                  • When someone report you in game it goes to Sony or Microsoft, they review the data than pass it onto bungie if a ban is needed. I was once false accused of lag switching, bungie banned me I sent email to Sony with my story, they looked at the data than contacted bungie on my behalf asking them to lift the ban. So this maybe a path worth taking for youself

                    • They don't have any considerations, IMO, and absolutely no customer services. Your best bet is to write a formal complaint to your console provider and explain everything that you can. If you get nothing satisfactory from them, then write to whom ever is the legal authority that pertains to this business activity. If you are an American, you can write to your States Attorney General, and register a formal complaint.

Most any game with an mmo aspect like destiny, or more in depth than destiny, does not have a contact or appeal process. Once banned, even temporary, the decision is final since they have far more info than any player could think up. And they are in no way obligated to tell the person why, although some will when it relates to things like botting, illegal trading, selling accounts, and such because those result in perma-bans. They don't pull the banhammer lightly and can take weeks before issuing one. Connection alone doesn't get a person banned, but using it purposely to gain an advantage will.
