Matchmaking for Raids

I really think it'll be beneficial to add matchmaking for Raids. Their many players or guardians out there whom haven't been able to reap the benefits of running the raids due to lack of finding a fireteam. For the strikes it's available but not for raids. You can join forums but still can't find a reliable group of people to participate in the activities. After a while in order to keep the game interesting or worth continuing to playing those higher level drops are needed. You can play crucible all day and constantly get level 270 gear etc. Same applies for trails, but raiding matchmaking for those solo Rangers would be great.

  • Not sure this is true but I have heard that it is impossible (reason unknown) for destiny to make "optional" matchmaking for anything. They would either have to go all matchmaking or all fire team for an activity.

    • People are acting like if they added mm they would be forced to use it. Every mm feature in the game (or any game for that matter) allows you to play as a fireteam if you prefer. It would just allow casual players who don't want to join a clan or troll lfg sites for an hour to find someone willing to help them.

      • Yes please, I want to experience 6 player greatness. Give it to us at lower light levels ~260 with crap rewards, maybe 10 leg and a couple blues maybe a purple. That'll do us just fine. :-)

      • Bump. Never played a Raid, heard they're fun, but I'm not a clansman, don't want to be either. match making should be the rule, not the exception.

      • Add matchmaking to year one VoG, Crota and PoE. It's year one levels, let's ppl get raid experience and build proper teams. Instead of just posting on forums. Get us into the game and off the internet. Besides most players have all ready disproven the bungie philosophy many times over.

        • Yessss Most groups fall apart after a boss or 2 and you gotta use a checkpoint AFTER finding new people.

        • Optional yes, what a lot of trolls on here don't get is they would not have to use it if it's optional. My question is why do they gaf if it were omm (optional mm for raids)?

        • I don't see how it could hurt if it's all optional. Especially with the way pve is going for destiny these days

          • It's the worst idea ever!!! Let's just assume we have matchmade you with 5 other individuals. Some of these individuals have no idea how to do the raid and some do. Let's assume miraculously you have made it to Oryx fight. You agree on the strategy of no knights (meaning you will kill the ogers after oryx is staggered so the knights can't steal the bombs). Now for some reason 2 people leaves the party because they need to go or they get frustrated playing with people who have no idea how to tackle oryx. Then game matchmakes you with 2 more noobs, now instead of plying the damn raid you need to explain it to them how to do it. Alternatively, you get 2 thick skulls that wanna attempt the boss with kill the knights strategy. Now not that you have to change your style, you need to explain it for the noobs how this shit is done. After couple of tries they get tired and leave and you get noobs again. So this is a god damn cycle of you getting frustrated over and over and over again until you quit. Then you come back here and ask bungie to remove the matchmaking from the raid. I have carried people through the raid both normal and hard one or 2 at a time and they were my friends and I'm happy to explain it couple of times for them. I have carried people through blackspindle because I can do the mission solo. All these happened because I wanted to do it not because the game force matchmade me randoms. Furthermore, with challenge mode out some people would want to only do golgoroth or oryx or warpriest. Imagine you are at oryx and the challenge is golgoroth, the guy joins and decides oryx isn't rewarding him enough or it's not helping his light level so he quits and this will happen many many times trust me. This is evident in the heroic strikes, people quit shield brothers, undying mind and onmigul a lot. They leave you hanging because they don't care, they wanna have fun. Please understand this, the raid requires a team of people who know each others play style or at least know several strategies and have run the raid. If you have never run a raid get group that has not run the raid at all and try figuring it out. From personal experience and being among those who finished the raid the first week it came out, i promise you will enjoy it.

Ok, as someone who tries to Sherpa people through every weekend, here are my thoughts on the whole matchmaking raid idea... We would still have to listen to the even greater whining and complaining over how bad it is. People really don't understand the reasons even optional is a horrible idea. 1. Namely, people are selfish dicks on the Internet. I guarantee at least one person in each match made group will ignore teamwork, and likely bail once they get the one drop they want. 2. No party leader. This means the group can't boot inactives, do-nothings, people who don't have a mic, use weapons or only have weapons/light levels that aren't adequate or appropriate for the battles, have horrible connections that lag out battles, or worse, people who just won't stfu and have to blast their favorite trance music or speed metal full volume into the fireteam chat. 3. What happens to that matchmaking when people do bail or get kicked partway through? Does that mean someone gets brought in at a point that is too far ahead for them or where they want to be? Or is that group now forever screwed and may as well disband and try again? No party leader, so going to orbit takes you out of the activity completely, which means you leave the party. Can't easily regroup and try again. 4. Trolls. Even as a Sherpa I come across trolls regularly. They pout, they whine, they try to overrule anything I try to communicate to the newbies in as loud and annoying a manner as possible, because they saw a way on YouTube that is better (and no, it isn't). They will do everything in their power to make a run as unenjoyable for everyone else as they possibly can, up to and including deliberately lowering their light level to well below the recommended or effective ll for that part of the raid. And imagine if matchmaking does designate a party leader, and the troll gets it... I've joined a group or five where the party lead was a secret douche. Got everyone to oryx, and just before we beat him, they went into menu and booted everyone during that final tiny damage phase at the end. They got the finish and the reward, the rest of the party, not so much. I could keep going as to why even optional mm is a stupid stupid stupid idea, but I hope the above gets the point across even slightly.

                • I used to think matchmaking for raids would be good - but with recent experiences from LFG I have changed my mind. I DO think however, that Bungie could do a MUCH better job of having in-game ways to match people up. A fundamental problem that I have seen is getting six people together. I recently quit raiding because of the ridiculous double RNG and there's no practical reason to raise your light level - but finding people from LFG is a crap shoot - if people haven't already settled into a raid team it often means they have personality quirks that make them hard to play with. But - like I said they REALLY need to make better in-game tools to help matchmake people for all events. I think a really good idea would be to reduce raids down to four people. That would make it MUCH (exponentially) easier to get enough people together to do a raid.

                • I agree, I can't find anyone besides kids who expect me to know everything right after I say "hey this is my first time". I've played since year one and still haven't found a reliable fireteam to get me through any raid which pisses me off because that is all I want to be able to do on this shit game

                  • Agree, people that say it won't work and are against it forget it's -blam!-ing OPTIONAL! that means that it wouldn't affect their game play because they would have the OPTION to do the raid with their clan member instead of using mm. As simple as that.

                    • See if we got mm for the raids, in the first week everyone would be happy. Then eventually you'd get all the hate posts of people getting paired with laggers and all the posts of "if you don't know what you're doing then don't do the raid!!!!!!"

                    • Matchmaking is on Strikes basically because they can be soloed anyway, so who cares if you get matched with bozos. Raids generally require teamwork & communication, 2 things that Matchmaking can't guarantee you'll get. Less complaining and more use of the Recruitment section of this app will solve your problems.

                      • Match making is a very bad idea. I do a lot of strikes with randoms and I can honestly say, 6 out of 10 you get people who have no idea how to beat a particular level. Keep in mind match making brings randoms I.e. strangers together. Most of my raid buddies I met in the forum back in VOG and we've been raiding together ever since (although some left destiny). To be part of a clan you need respect, honesty and proper manners. So my advice to you is, find a clan. You will need to communicate as in "talk" verbally. Doing the raid with randoms for me is a nightmare. Sometimes you get folks who have mics but for some reason are afraid to talk. Even the Crucible has team voice chat that no one uses. It's even in strikes but some folks are just too timid.
