Birth of a Guardian: Cotton Candy Pink

Enjoy! Ghost Log 10054.83.1 Designation: Ila Guardian: Ophelia RE: Abnormal Log, Possible Loss of Life Hello, my name is Ila. That’s eye – luh to be clear. For the record I am the ghost that raised Ophelia. Back then she was a young woman, but I saw unbelievable potential. I am making this log in an attempt to retell her story as well as some crucial details that led me my decision. Unlike other guardians, Ophelia showed extreme talent when adopting the titan codex that I infused her light with. Her mastery of the striker and defender subclasses was unprecedented. I had raised her at the age of just nineteen and within three weeks she had not only proven herself with the two initial subclasses but challenged and successfully overcame the tests of city faction: Dead Orbit. Her class mark, Oblivion, shows talent in its own right, but she did not stop there. At age twenty I saw a plateau of progression along the lines of battle combat, she was too good. Fallen, Vex, and Cabal stood no chance. Unfortunately, with little data on how she would fair against the Hive, I cannot and will not make a determination. Around this time Sunbreakers were spotted outside of Mercury. This was the first change in her attitude I saw. Previously, she had just followed orders and ran with the punches. However, once this information was made public, she immediately sought them out. Despite the clear warning provided by me and Commander Zavala at the time; despite them being outcasts; despite everything, I saw her eyes filled with a drive I had not seen previously. Tracking the Sunbreakers was easy, they didn’t exactly hide… Anyway, Ophelia hunted them from Venus to Mars and then finally to Mercury. Ouros finally met her. The arena was as close to a coliseum as it could get. Something must be said to the ancient Roman engineers, they certainly knew how to establish a spectacular view. The audience was hundreds of hooded characters; I will infer are followers of Osiris. Both women had stripped their armor and were staring into what I can only describe as blood lust. There was such a ferocity burning in Ophelia’s eyes I could feel it in the stands. The rules were simple: beat your opponent by any means necessary, no weapons, no outside aid, and the winner gets one wish. Ouros was astounding. Much like Ophelia, her fighting skills were top notch. Ophelia would later tell me that each of her punches was deliberate and precise. That each blow felt like a trucks crashing into her. Her body was made of iron and could take an enormous amount of punishment. Ouros was the first to strike she lashed out quickly and violently. Jab after jab combined with lightning quick hooks, Ouros had beaten Ophelia back. Ophelia quickly recovered. Despite the dirt floor, she was able to stand her ground and dash back at Ouros. Ramming into her at full speed, she shoulder checked Ouros who blocked it. She was still sent a good ten feet back. Ophelia followed with a set of kickboxing maneuvers I cannot accurately describe. The pair started to grapple after a short while, their hand to hand combat virtually even. Ouros was able to trip up Ophelia and hold her down. It was only for a moment. I remember Ophelia being placed in a similar situation with a Fallen Captian once. He had pinned her in the most unpleasant and degrading of ways. The Captain had moved his head in close laughing in her ear. As a personal side note, the position the Captain held Ophelia in and laughing on top of that was utterly disgusting. But, that’s when I heard her chuckle and, literally, use her head. “Give up guardian?” Ouros had asked. “Hell no!” Ophelia shouted. Like with the Captain, she took a deep breath and used as much force as she could to head-butt Ouros. She was sent reeling and holding her face. Ophelia had a dark bruise on her forehead for almost a week after this. Ophelia jumped to her feet and attacked Ouros. She launched ten quick and powerful jabs to her abdomen and took her by the head and brought her down on her knee with such force Ouros was sent arching back. Ouros hit the ground and a small plume of dirt waved away from her body. Ophelia had walked over and put her foot onto Ouros. “Make me a Sunbreaker,” she demanded. “Of course,” Ouros smiled and laughed. Ophelia had mastered the Sunbreaker subclass even faster than the other two. Something was completely different. Training under Ouros must have had an impact I was unable to see. Once engaged, Ophelia is able to call upon the power of the sun unlike any other. Her body glows a bright white and yellow. The heat of the sun radiates from her and when she brings the Hammer of Sol down on an enemy it doesn’t just incinerate them, it burns them from existence. Practicing on captured Vex enemies was proof of this. The hammer was so powerful wherever it struck left nothing but smolder and ash. She could cut an enemy in half with the flat surface of her hammer. If she wishes, she can also call upon the fire in a way that would put a solar flare to shame. The inferno vortex that would surround her burns sand to glass and then melts the glass into a liquid that flows like water. If that is not an indication of the power of her sunspot, the fact that an entire area of… wherever we were on Mercury, was melted and sectioned off by the followers of Osiris ought to be. Although our time was short on Mercury, over the years I saw a brightness I had not seen previously in Ophelia. She seemed genuinely happy. Even though she returned and continued to follow orders, her entire demeanor changed. I am often asked by Lord Shaxx and The Speaker why she didn’t go to the forge to become a Sunbreaker. I cannot and will not answer this question with any certainty. I can only infer that through her actions it was her autonomy that led to that decision. Her hair always had me curious. Why cotton candy pink? I tried my best to answer this without asking her. I felt it wasn’t my place to question my Guardian’s appearance and so I simply investigated. Eva Lavante was of much help in my initial inquiry. Colors seem to have a special, spiritual significance. They evoke responses and emotions that otherwise influence mood and behavior. Pink is the color of… and I quote… soft. It is supposed to evoke a tenderness and love in and of others. According to Eva, it could be something that, deep down, Ophelia desires or seeks. I saw this as a possibility. Ophelia rarely talks with me about her emotional state but I notice some behavior that is consistent with this reasoning. She holds a very clear compassionate, nurturing, and understanding side. Her desire to seek out success and at the same time be feminine and romantic (the second one is questionable as I have not seen any ‘romantic’ interactions with a partner of the opposite or even the same sex). Ophelia is smart and insightful, which according to Eva, are also traits of such a color. There are also some inconsistencies with this. It is a natural hair color. She did not have a choice in that regards. That leads me to question a lot of the information provided. She does not opt to change the color and keeps her hair very well groomed. Though I am not certain this could indicate she simply takes care of her hair and ignores the color. My investigations were found out, unsurprisingly. Upon direct examination something very peculiar came up. Her one memory of a long ago past. Other guardians lack any knowledge of their past before their deaths and this is the first I have seen of a case like this. It was of her mother holding her. Her mother had whispered this phrase over and over again until she was asleep at night. “A daughter is the happiest memory of the past, the most joyful moment of the present, and the greatest promise of a future.” Ophelia says her hair matched her mother’s and she could never change it. I share this information now because I fear for the life of my Guardian. Ophelia had met up with Alexander. He had trained in the Forge and inserted himself into Ophelia’s fire team. I mention him out of her complete respect (and as I suspect is a hint of infatuation) for his ability and appearance. Human interaction is confusing… Anyway, their first mission was to Venus. The Vex known as Atheon was encountered despite reports of Kabr and his fire team destroying it many years ago. Ophelia is trapped under a pile of rubble unconscious. She is bleeding and I am unable to do anything. Both Holly and Raven are unconscious and neither I nor their Ghosts can wake them. Alexander and Dr. Shim (who is also supposed to be dead) are missing and I am unable to contact Oliver, Alexander’s Ghost. This is a cry out for help and the last testament to Ophelia’s existence in the worst case scenario.
