My friends and I were having a little difficulty getting to calcified fragment in the "scent chest" on the Dreadnought today, for no better reason than lack of practice on the jumping puzzle portion. We were taking too long going from invisible platform to invisible platform, and didn't have enough time left at the end to grab the fragment from the chest.
We had worked out to have 2 of us sitting on platforms keeping them visible, but there are still 2 jumps that slow you down along the way until you learn the route.
From out of basically nowhere, another Guardian came along and started running the route just ahead of each of us, making the extra jump platforms visible for us so we didn't have to waste time using our Ghosts or get in each other's way. This guy was clearly an expert at the route, and he got my friends across in just 1 or 2 runs apiece. I took considerably longer, but I've always been rotten at jumping puzzles. He was very patient and stuck around until I knew the route cold. I actually made it to the chest twice, but the first time the thralls managed to knock me away from the chest as I was actually opening it. The next run, I got my fragment as well.
I just wanted to give a public thanks to this player, who got absolutely nothing out of it other than watching us dance at the end. Players work together for public events all the time, but I've never seen anyone help out in a situation like this. Kudos, Guardian. I hope one day I can help someone out as selflessly as you helped us.
EDIT: For the record, I sent a friend request to this gentleman. I don't know yet whether there was a response.
In the words of n0tgm:
Thanks to all the puzzle jumper sherpas!
And I'm happy to be able to say I joined their ranks, I held the platform for 2 Guardians today. It wasn't much, but it made me feel great afterwards when they came back to me and danced.

Just a tip: you do not need to do the jumping puzzle. You can go to the left side of the chasm and jump (bunny hop) to the other end. Did this with a titan and warlock not sure if a hunter can do it but i think so.
-
I always help people with this if I'm in the area... Always a good feeling to help someone without needing to be asked...
-
Here I thought I was the only once who helped out people finding the fragment. Every time I go into the Sunless Cell strike I point out every single fragment all along the way.
-
That shit was so -blam!-ing hard Having to do it alone sucked I died probably 23 times because of it never been so mad at a game
-
I helped some people get across with my friend. I'm not sure if we helped you or someone else did.
-
No worries mate. I saw you were having a go at it, an i had done it a few weeks before. So i did what any good neighbor would do and helped you out as best i could. :D Sorry, i didn't see a friend request. Might have got my name wrong. Psn: PHOENIXLSLASH Happy to help anyone, anywhere, anytime i can :D

Very cool of the Guardian to do so. Very cool of you to comment. Tons better than the complaints that pile up.

Edited by SwankyButters: 11/1/2015 7:47:05 AMIt's the people keeping this game together, has been from the beginning. People can really surprise you sometimes.
-
People use that way? You can hop across the wall. Cuts time in half. Its somewhat hard.
-
i feel the same,if i catch someone trying to get it,ill help
-
That's awesome love seeing the positivity in the playerbase
-
I thought it was a normal thing. The guardian you're talking about wasn't me, but I always try to help out with those jumps by simply running the route ahead of the person in need of the chest. That way all the platforms appear right behind me and ahead of them.
-
Yeah had the same happen with me on my alts. I've also returned the favor to another guardian.
-
Some kind guardian did this with me the other week. Just randomly turned up and decided to help me reach the chest. Sent them a msg afterwards thanking them and appreciated that they took the time out to help a fellow guardian ☺

Met a guy who was cool enough to help me get 5 of my friends in the same zone and we wrecked court of oryx. Lol
-
Does anybody know how to kill the blade of oryx? I can't find him.
-
I've done that before props to him
-
wow, people actually have problems with this.... pretty pathetic if you ask me
-
What about the cheese where you can run along the side of the wall
-
No one cares.
-
Right on! I try to help when I can, even if it's something as simple as pointing out the fragments in the Darkblade strike. We were all new to things at one point and would do well to remember that, even when in raids.

Very cool of that person and you for taking the time to say thanks. Well done.

Im happy that there still are good people out in the Destiny

Edited by StinkySphynxStir: 10/31/2015 11:25:36 PMI do this quite frequently. Almost any time I'm in the area, I'll look to see if anybody is giving it a shot. If I see anybody there, I'll go jump in and help "light the way". Funny thing about it is that I've never gotten the chest myself. Just never put any effort to trying to actually run the wall or jump the platforms.
