How CRUCIBLE SPECIFIC QUESTS have destroyed PvP for everyone in Destiny.

So i've played destiny religiously now for around 1700+ hours. When crucible first came out it was pretty hectic, but it was good. Probably the best PvP I had played for a console in my entire life accept for the fact that the supers and the heavy ammo remove any type of skill based gameplay but it was still better than most of the crap game companies are coming out with these days. But then you dropped a patch that basically made it an easter egg hunt for ammo, and it began to suck at that point. Realizing that literally every gun I had was now useless 80% of the time unless I wanted to focus less on combat, and more on finding ammo. This was a huge let down, and it showed me that the people at bungie truly have no idea what they are doing with their PvP. Following that patch was a gun re-balance that did the exact opposite of re-balance the weapons, and it made 2 or 3 weapons your only possible hope for winning matches. Then a new re-balance came out and I thought that it was finally going to be a better game to play. But then you guys took it one step to far with the taken king. What you have done by creating crucible specific quests is screwed everyone over in PvP. If everything was based on how well you yourself are doing then it would be fine but any team PvP is broken now. I realized after going 30 matches a night in first place on my team almost every single time, and still losing every game, that nobody is playing the crucible the way it was meant to be played anymore. Nobody is using their best equipment, and everyone else is paying for it. For example, I get into a quick game, me and 5 other randoms. If my 5 randoms are attempting to complete their crucible quests, and they are all trying to use crap weapons they suck with BASED ENTIRELY ON CRUCIBLE SPECIFIC QUESTS, then I get screwed for it. It used to be that everyone was putting 100% into their PvP, using their best weapons and playing to their full potential, and now every game is a loss because half my team is using crap weapons trying to get "6+ kills with a handcannon and a win". This is not acceptable at all. How can you expect people to want to play when there's a 90% chance their team isn't even focused on winning, but instead focused entirely on getting a very specific objective done and you lose for it almost every time. You realize that your crucible stats actually used to reflect your abilities and how good you actually were at crucible, but now those stats are all a lie. They don't reflect how well a person plays any longer, it now reflects how well a person is doing while using weapons they aren't good with, continuously failing at completing an objective they more than likely won't be rewarded for doing anyways, all while losing the match for their team each and every time they log into the crucible. So after reading these FACTS, please reconsider the Crucible Specific quests, or at the very least start a 3v3 ladder that you cannot complete objectives in, so people can compete to be the best, rather than people just getting screwed over because of their team. PvP is where I go for competition, not where I go to hate my life and other people.

  • Not only quests but also the new currency, legendary marks. If you want to get any decent amount of them you have to PVP and PVE. You can easily tell the difference in level of play when a certain PVP mode is the Daily. People just want the marks. Quest are the biggest culprit but legendary marks are making it even worse. I like Control and Rumble but find myself doing Salvage or something else just to get marks.

    • I suck at pvp but i still loved playing it. Now its just depressing. The crucible questline and the chaperone first part are the worst. I cant play the way i like. Im just bad with auto rifles and hand cannons. i don't want to be forced to to them to get my quests. And the chaperone quest is just annoying. I suck with hand cannons and the last word is the hardest for me to use. All the advice people get for the quest say some way to cheese it. I just want the shotgun. The thorn bounty was exponentially easier than this one. I did it in a couple hours. Im at like 5 percent with this one and i hate it.I just want to enjoy my crucible experience.

      • Yep, peeps get like one kill and afk for marks Or the ignore objectives for bounties instead Bungie loves "forced" gameplay using carrots

      • I agree. Always having a hard time winning even though I'm doing well. Forcing other people to do pvp just ruins the whole aspect of it.

      • It's led me to rumble boosting and running around with a sword hilt. I am not there for the team at all. I feel bad but I figure if bungie wants me in pvp I am going to get my rewards and get out. Screw the metrics.

      • Bump That is very true, and I fully agree, forcing people to play crucible ruins it for those who want to be there... Thankfully for all the PvP people out there, I just delete any quest that say go to crucible, I don't like it, I'm not gonna play it.. No point in ruining it for those who do like it.

        • All i hate about it is all the taken king scrubs who still use their Felwinters, luckly i have a maxed y2 suros (and soon red death) that can probably take them down.

          • I agree. The weapon steps of quest is brutal since u have to win while getting 6 primary kills. Im a really good player but i usually win without 6 primary kills or lose with over 6 kills.

I have to agree with this. While I love the fact that PvP was given quests, they have impacted crucible gameplay negatively overall

                • I hate Crucible. So having quests that throw me in there... well... I'm just saying I feel bad for the other people on my team. But honestly... don't think I'll even waste time on those quests.

                  • I agree that these PVP Quest are impacting Crucible, people that want these weapons will come in and play to get them. but these people not playing for the team, but rather for a quest reward at the expense of the team. This will continue to be a bigger problem till they offer the PVE players an option to achieve these weapons another way. Some of the people playing this game are collectors and will do anything to obtain every exotic in the game.

                    • This is kinda why I hate PvP based Exotic Quests.... But I come from another angle in that I hate PvP, I don't enjoy it and have no desire 'to git gud' at it. I don't want to be in there, but increasingly there are so many quests now that require you to go in there and do these insane requirements to get these Exotics like First Curse and Chaperone, as well as Exotic Swords. It means there are alot of people who are going in there who dont want to be there and impacting on the enjoyment of people who like PvP more than PvE because they're getting people who are focused on their own goals and not doing the best they can in the game. These quests should have dual paths, either go into the Cruicble and do certain specific things, or go into PvE and do certain feats/tasks instead. Forcing people to go into modes they don't want to be in impacts on the people who do want to be in those modes, and really doesn't go along with the philsophy of "Play the way you want" which I thought was what Bungie wanted to do with Destiny. When you say you wanted to give people more guns through rewards, this wasn't what I was expecting...and its really disappointing.

                      • I agree totally mate. I hate the pvp quests for two reasons 1. I don't enjoy pvp and 2. I don't like letting people down. So I'm running around trying to get sword kills while dying often and wrecking it for my team mates. If I have to play pvp for any reason like when iron started and I needed that helmet to hit 30 I gave it 100% but now I'm focused on one thing only, stupid sword kills. Leave it pve only!

                        • each step in those questlines should offer options that either require PvP tasks or PvE tasks so that players get to choose what they want to do. that would get rid of all the PvE players (including myself) that are only going into crucible to complete those PvP objectives and then never set a foot into crucible ever again. then those PvP options should require PvP-mode specific objective based tasks to complete them and NOT "using a subpar weapon or focus and kill 25 enemy players with it." that's my take on it.

                          • Agree with this and i am mainly a pve player. I did enjoy playing pvp but since TTK pvp seems broken. People running around trying to get sword hilt kills, camping with last word, etc, just to get the quests done rather than try to win the game. I dont blame the players i blame bungie for not understanding the consequences quests and bounties have on normal game play. Pve is just as bad, players running strikes to get a certain calcified fragment then quitting once they have it.

                            • The dlc is still pretty new, give people a chance to get good weapons that they like and want to keep. But I agree and see how the bounties and quest could screw things up. I myself do this all the time.

                            • Please dont put your other pvp views into your main topic. I completely disagree with your thoughts on the abundence of secondary ammo. That garbage was as bad as thorn. A high ttk game with people running around with one shot weapons the whole game. Please no. Now your main topic with "specific" pvp quest hurting crucible. I can agree with that. Its like when they had that 50 headshot ar kills in iron bannana. Then people getting mad all they see is suros regime. Now they have 25 sword kills and wonder why people are running around with hilts trying to get two mellee's off. Crucible becomes a check list more so than anything else.

You know, this would all be solved if this game just did what SO many other games do that are PvP and PvE. Have two sets of gear! One that makes the classes in pvp better and vice versa. This is one of the biggest problems in Destiny. A loot game with BS minimal loot. This BS where they try and balance 2 opposing activities using 1 set of gear never works. They will never win and eventually both sides will give the company the finger.

Hence why I liked Trials so much, I got a lot more sweaty, tryhards matches than normal crucible. I understand where your coming from, I'm a competitive player and that's been my scene in gaming for a while. I saw a lot of promise with this game during the beta, early during the PvP meta when the game came out and SURO was king I still felt the game was solid competitively. Then we had the hand cannon meta, blink, shotgun meta, which at that point I couldn't take the game seriously anymore in PvP. You died instantly to the 3 dominant primary weapons, and blink was blatantly broken. Now we have the pulse rifle and scout rifle meta, which I enjoy very much and probably the best PvP meta since the beta. But keep this in mind, after all this time, since the early inception of destiny, there has been almost no real signs of Bungie caring about destiny competitive. During the beta we heard that there would be NO custom games at launch. Which was a huge heart breaker to myself and many others. We've asked countless times for a ranked/league playlist. Nothing. Hell just recently in taken King we finally got our first true OBJ mode, rift. Since anyone with any FPS competitive experience knows TDM in general makes for a terrible competitive game type, which is all control, clash, rumble, and skirmish are, TDM under a different name. Then we have mayhem, which is the EXACT of what any competitive FPS player would want or ask for lol. Outside of trials, Bungie hasn't given too many signs of them wanting destiny to be competitive, they certainly haven't done much to support the scene. Which is funny cause Halo put MLG on the map, not to mention competitive console gaming on the map, cause before Halo, competitive gaming was a PC thing. I mean it's admirable/cute what all the "competitive" destiny PvP streamers on twitch/MLG.tv are trying to do. Host there own tournaments, no real prizes, just for bragging rights I guess. But truth is no one cares, not when Dota is throwing million dollar tournaments left and right, CS: GO is THE competitive shooter right now, and we got CoD throwing 4 million down in there league. If your a competitive gamer, destiny isn't giving you much incentive to stick around. And this is coming from a huge fan of the game. If you want to play a competitive FPS, your playing the wrong game my friend.
