My proposal to properly fix the "shotgun" situation.

So, I'm sure a lot of people would be against this and if you are one of those shotguns or die people, move along. This thread isn't for you. I've noticed Bungie tried to nerf the consistency of the infamous shotgun weapon class. Now, I will admit that this attempt was a minor success with me occasionally screaming at my T.V. But, I feel Bungie might have taken the wrong route with it. I feel that the shogun was rather OP last year. With Shot package being the tier 1 perk everyone sought to pull, I believe, instead of nerfing the perk itself. They should have moved the weapon class from Special to Heavy. Especially with the introduction of the new sword class. I see it highly unfair that a weapon that gets ammo every 90 seconds can easily trump a weapon that only gets ammo once or twice before the match is over. I think that the shotguns being moved from the special class to heavy would; 1. Help control the skill gap between players in crucible. -This would negate a lot of the "rush in, one hit everything then move on" mentality a lot of players in the crucible have that is leading matches to favor the "average" player rather than the "skilled" player. Which I have no problem with people winning games against me. But, I feel a loss from a pack of shotgunners is a lot more hollow than a lose against a team of people using their primaries and team shot-ing me. 2. The switch to heavy class doesn't take away from players who are still good with shotguns, instead it allows them to shine during the heavy periods of matches. -I don't believe in taking from the players. Instead take away the opportunity for players to run around with a 1 shot kill once they have died. Punish a player for rushing rather than give them a win for doing so. 3. There would be less pressure for blink to be nerfed. -I love blink. It's an amazing mechanic and once mastered, a devastating tool to use on the battlefield. But, I feel a lot of players complaining about blink only think of the Blink-shotgun combo. (Which is not a legitimate strategy) The ability to teleport to your enemy and land a single killing blow to the face is not a good start to making a fair and balanced matchmaking. 4. It would force players to explore more options rather than stick with the old "tried and true". -This is pretty much self explanatory. Shotguns account for 14.89% of the crucible's kills. This means that a lot of people are using this weapon. Undoubtedly, because it is good and because players have the opportunity to use it every 90 seconds when ammo drops. The closest special class weapon on the list is the fusion rifle which only accounts for 6.53% of the crucible's kills. I believe that this switch would force players to do something not to many of them are fond of, experiment. * TL;DR Shotty should be heavy because it is rather over powered. Please leave your comments/concerns or even your own ideas pertaining to the shotgun menace. Please be respectful and do not bash other's ideas. All constructive criticism please. So if this happens your next post will be another wall of text saying snipers should be in the heavy slot because they one shot you everywhere? Because that will happen if you put shotguns to the heavy slot :) or 2 sniper "teamshot-ing" you for instakill without any skill
