Can we PLEASE just talk about this?

Hey all, ( FYI feel free to skip down to the TL;DR section to skip my life story and join in on the discussion :3 ) > So, I've been playing destiny pretty much since launch. And like many of you I follow the weekly updates, the news releases, the patch notes, etc. Pretty much any information I can get my hands on to see what's going on with Destiny now, or to see what's coming up. After reading these I usually take to the forums here to read my fellow guardians opinions and feedback about the upcoming changes. Especially if the changes are worrisome... Up until now, this prying in the shadows without having a voice of my own has always been enough for me. Digging through topics and comments until I found someone whose opinion mirrored my own was all I needed to be satisfied. However I read something in the last weekly update that sent a shiver down my spine. A small tidbit of information hidden (almost purposely?) in the very last paragraph of the update. So I rushed here to see what you all thought about it. Yet to my surprise, I haven't seen a single topic discussing this at length. I feel like a lot of people may have missed it, or maybe they just don't care? Even when I asked my friends IRL, their responses so far have been along the lines of "Wait, what? That wasn't in the update?!" So what am I talking about? What am I so frightened about that I needed to post my life story to hopefully get people paying attention? It all boils down to one small sentence snuck in at the end of last week's update : Classes will have their own guns. So I want to know Guardians, what are your thoughts on this? Do you feel that this is a good move for the game? Do you think Bungie will implement this in a way that's balanced? Did you even notice this info dripping out of the bottom of deej's 7 layer BS burrito?! Personally this has got me pretty frightened. Especially when you consider the reason our beloved Gjally is getting nerfed, is because Bungie felt that it is was causing players who didn't have it to be excluded. That's fine, but what happens when class specific weapons drop? Given the history so far, I'm expecting LFG sites to start looking like this in September: LFG for TTK raid. Must be 40 Warlock with (Insert ridiculously powerful weapon that can only be used by warlocks) But, I've always been somewhat of a pessimist. TLDR Classes will have their own guns. Thoughts? . Edit: Wow almost 50 replies! Thanks to everyone who took the time to read through my wall of text and post their opinion on this upcoming change! :) Edit2: moved the TLDR due to popular request :)

  • This is what I assume they mean by "class specific weapons": Handcannon with perk exclusive to warlock: kills with this weapon charge radiance faster Scout rifle exclusive to Hunter: kills with this weapon have the chance to make yourself invisible for a brief period of time Shotgun exclusive to Titan: kills with this weapon increase the window of opportunity to use shoulder charge (if you've had a Titan you know what I mean, if not you're probably an idiot who thinks shoulder charge is OP) These are what I assume they mean by class specific weapons rather than 3 new weapon types

    • I too noticed, but amongst all the hate and negativity i honestly could not be bothered to talk about it as i felt that any chance of converaation would derive into chaos regarding nerfs! Thanks for highlighting a major statement that so many had missed, you are a pillar of the community. Happy Gaming, Friend.

      • I'm hoping that it's just certain skill boosts for different upgrade perks. Like a shotgun with bonus Storm Fist, or something.

          • I'm guessing they thought about this and didn't make them super op. They probably made it like truth, pretty good, but nothing amazing

          • I think each class can buy the same weapons, but if you buy one with a hunter only the hunter can use it. In order for the titan to use that gun, you have to buy it with the titan. So no more switching weapons between your characters. That's what i think is going to happen, but its just a guess.

You must be new to Bungie. They're somewhat prompt and thorough about nerfing highly effective weapons, and they regret making a lot of the Year 1 gear so good. Calm your jets.

                  • I agree. This will be a problem, just as it has been a problem in the past. Destiny is an insanely unbalanced game. They will make a gun that is way to powerful for one of the classes. Then, they will defend its massive power by saying that the other classes have guns that are OP in a different way. But those other guns will not compare at all to the one on the first class. Bungie will respond in 8 months, by nerfing the first gun. The community will be happy, but the ones that use that class will be very angry (roughly a third of the community). A large percentage of that class will say they are done with Destiny. At the same time, Bungie will buff a weapon on another class to make it even more OP than the first one. The community will flame, and Bungie will fix it when they release Destiny 2. TL:DR The Strangers Rifle came back from the future and told me a bunch of things. Payne kill3r is right, this is a horrible idea.

                    • I'm interested in class specific weapons. Balancing would be more of an issue though. Bungie should fire who is currently in charge of balancing and hire a chimp.

                      • It will turn into everyone using one class for one gun then bungie will go dam everyones using only one class let's nerf it. But then cause everyone is using that class everyone will be annoyed! It is a good idea but the should do something that would make things balanced like only special and heavy weapons. That way it shouldn't be too bad in Pvp, however in PvE if people say for example go everyone must be worlocks lvl 40 with mega blaster bazooka thing then you shouldn't be playing with those people.

                      • I'd be fine with this as long as each class has a weapon that is the best in the game. Like the hunter with the best secondary, warlock with the best primary and Titan with the best heavy. Kind of like if it was possible that only Warlocks could get fatebringer. Hunters could only get ice Breaker or Black hammer and Titans could only get a Gally(a Gally post nerf not the beast it is now because it's the best gun in the game)

                      • I'm up for class specific weapons. I always thought they should've borrowed from Diablo 2 with armor set bonuses and class specific weapons. And LFG is already like that: LF1M, must be a Defender Titan with Gjallarhorn for Skolas. LF1M Swordbearer, must be Hunter. LFG for Flawless. We're doing 3x Self Rez Locks with quick rez gear and Thorn. Etc

                      • when I first got Destiny I assumed classes would have their own guns. I was hugely disappointed when that wasn't the case. I'm for it

                        • Totally agree. But I hope they have learned from Their mistakes and don't make any super OP weapons.

                        • Hmmm nice post. I didn't even see that in the update. Glad you could shine a light on it. Seems like it's just another way for Bungie to add some exclusion into the game. You will be right about the LFG site requests.
