An Ideal Destiny Sequel: Wishlist/Constructive Criticism

Hey guys, not sure if this is the proper place to post this since I'm not in the forums often, but I figure it looks like a good enough spot. Ultra Long post incoming. Dear Bungie/Community, I've played a lot of Destiny over the last year. Even after selling it for a brief period of time I repurchased the game and have been having plenty of fun with it. However, ever since launch I like many other players have had a growing list of gripes with the game. While they aren't enough to make me drop the game for good, I still feel that there's a lot that could've been done to make this game even better. I know from experience that game design can be a ton of hard work, but I'm sure you can understand my concerns. While the DLC seems to be partially remedying some of my bigger complaints, I think it would be wise to focus on making Destiny 2 (which I'm pretty sure is basically confirmed at this point) as expansive and epic as possible. Take what made the first game great and make it even crazier. A lot of this may sound like just complaints, but I promise I make these complaints with the best of intentions for the future of a game I enjoy. Now that the introductory stuff is out of the way, here's my list of things I'd like to add and/or alter in a potential Destiny sequel. -Make it Bigger This is probably the one that sticks out in my mind the most. Obviously, Destiny isn't exactly a small game by any means, but only by technicality. While the scope is pretty broad, it still felt too short (more on that later). My main gripe though is with the way the planets work. I mean you give us HALF OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM to play around in, and only about 20 square miles of total space to play in with ONE AREA PER PLANET. It only makes it worse when there are multiple areas in the PvP space, like the European Deadzone added in the DLC, or The Planet Mercury. To make matters more annoying, the DLC adds in High Level goons in normally low level places. I was trying to show my little sibling who was just getting into the game at level 5 one of my favorite spots to grind on Earth (The Divide) only to have her insta-gibbed by a level 30 QueenSlayer on the way there. My 32 Warlock doesn't care, but for newer players it could be a right pain in the neck. I think a much better solution for adding DLC content would've been t add in entirely new playable spaces to roam around in, such as... -The European Dead Zone, as well as areas in the Americas and Asia (like an urban map in New York or Tokyo) -The Cracks/Mountains on the Dark side of the moon -Cydonia, Mars Granted, I feel such things should be -and indeed should've BEEN- included in the vanilla game. -Make the Armies of the Darkness feel like Armies One of my biggest personal gripes as a fan of Old School shooters is the fact that enemies are usually only present in small numbers, especially for the Hive. It makes even the higher level baddies seem a bit tame, and it makes lower ranked enemies like Thralls virtually negligible. If the Hive goes to war, I don't want to see 5 or 6 thrall with a few acolytes and a single basic knight. If they're going to go to WAR, they should be hurling legions of thralls at us, a few squads of acolytes, and a named Wizard with a royal guard of Hallowed Knights. Places where the enemy is hotly contesting for territory should feel like battlegrounds, where they send in their best troops to stamp out Guardians or any other Alien races in their way. On that note... -Unify the Darkness against the light I'm well aware that each of the enemy factions have their own goals, often putting each other in conflict with one another. However, this separatism within the enemy factions has also led to some pretty lackluster moments in Destiny for me. For example: At the end of the game in The Black Garden, I was expecting a LOT more out of what was supposed to be a Final Boss fight. After all, going into the literal Heart of Darkness should mean that this monolith of evil would throw everything at the Guardians trying to stop it. Bu we didn't get a major final boss fight against the minions of the Darkness; all we did was fight the Vex and beat up some up-scaled minotaurs at the end. While I can understand that each faction of the Darkness has their own wants and needs, wouldn't it make sense for whatever immeasurably powerful being controls The Darkness itself whip them all into line against a common threat (i.e. Guardians)? Say, if there are areas the Darkness finds important, or if it's a late in the campaign and the Darkness realizes it's getting its booty handed to it, it would make sense to have locations where these bitter enemies would set aside their differences for a common Evil? Sure, it happens naturally when you have an area where they're combating, but I think a Final Battle against the Darkness would involve the WHOLE Darkness. -Varied Boss Monsters On the subject of the Up-scaled Minotaurs, it would be great to see bosses that are actually unique. Just having a big servitor or a big knight doesn't really scream intimidating. I remember there were rumors about Dragons and such in the game before release, and I wish with all my heart that had made it into the game. Fighting a mighty space dragon with laser breath using rocket launchers and angry space magic? Now THAT'S a boss fight. -Weapon Balance Don't get me wrong, Destiny has a lot of great weapons. However, there seems to be some disparity between weapons and their usefulness, especially between patches. I'm sure no one would disagree that for a time the Suros Regime, Vex Mythoclast, Thorn, and Gjallarhorn have all been considered absolutely God-tier at one point or another, so much so that virtually all other weapons were considered obsolete; including several "exotics" that are probably outclassed by virtually every weapon in their category (Bad Juju, No Land Beyond, old Thorn, and Universal Remote). I hope that in future entries to the Destiny series, there will be more balance among various weapons, and that ALL exotics feel powerful and worth having over other run-of-the-mill gear. -Weapon Variety Again, Destiny has plenty of cool weapons. However, I feel like something's missing. The House of Wolves DLC gave me hope (and an idea) with the new Sidearm class in the Special Weapons. Granted the category only holds 2 new guns, but its a start. Looking at the current weapons, it seems we have most of the same basic "human" guns that can be found basically everywhere with the exception of certain pieces of raid gear and exotic weapons and armor. I think it would be awesome to see weapon classes based around weapons used by the Darkness or crafted from tools of the alien races. For example, if you kill a Hive Knight, what if he dropped a sword instead of a rifle? If you killed a Fallen Scorch Captain, you get a Scorch Cannon? Or an Electric Rifle of some sort? -Faction/Race Relations Now I know that this is a cliche in most sci-fi and fantasy fair, and that in the real world this is a lot less cool. That being said, there are certain situations where I feel different classes, factions, and races should have slightly altered reactions to one another. Like, if I AM one of the Awoken, it's a little weird for the Awoken to be so shady around me and refer to me as "outsider". Perhaps the Stranger will let us in on more info if we're Hunters who know the ways or the world(s) like she does. Perhaps the different city factions will have different dialogue for you based on which faction you have the highest rank in (like how Dead Orbit and New Monarchy seem at odds with each other) Make Vehicles more Useful Admittedly this one is pretty low on my priority list. Apart from just getting around, our Sparrows don't do a whole lot, which is fine. Vehicles also turn big PvP maps into tank battles without making them too OP, which can be cool. However, it would be nice to see other vehicles like the Pike and Interceptor be more prevalent in PvE situations. I'd like to see more enemies riding into battle on their own vehicles, or maybe having their ships stick around to provide support or act as a giant boss fight. -More stuff to do by yourself/Matchmaking This could apply to a LOT of different aspects of Destiny, and is probably one of my biggest gripes with the game as is. Besides the really short story (I got 3 Stranger's Rifles in less than 2 days, so...) which could've been forgiven if it weren't for the supposed scope of the game. Story isn't so important to me that I'll get rid of a game without it; my Master Prestige in Black Ops 2 is a testament to that. I just wish there was more single player stuff. But when I sit down for a story, I want it to be a good one; and it doesn't help that 90% of the DLc story missions are just the same levels played backwards. Not even that, just more stuff to do without requiring friends to be on to play with. There's plenty of things to keep occupied, sure, with the Crucible, Heroic Missions, and all of different Strikes (and Heroic/Nightfall variations thereof). But when all of the Raids, most of the Prison of Elders, and even certain multiplayer playlists (Trials of Osiris) are locked behind the Friendship Gate, it gets a little grating after a while. I can understand Raids and ToO, but the Prison of Elders irks me because they CLEARLY have matchmaking for the level 28 version, why not the 32+ versions? _______________ End Rant. These are just a few of my ideas. Let me know what you guys think in the comments. I'd like to hear what players and the devs want for the future of Destiny!

 • There are a couple of things I'd like in the sequel. Mainly larger landscapes to explore like you've stated above. The game doesn't really satisfy my desire to explore and discover. Then there's a couple of things I'd like them to add to these larger areas: Discovered exotic bounties- Imagine exploring an old facility in a abandoned region of old russia that is full of enemies. You kill those enemies and one of them drops an item used to start an exotic bounty for a cool new weapon. You then go on a large adventure to multiple areas to learn the story behind this weapon and how to find it. Planetary invasions- Just like weekend pvp events, what if there were planetary invasions that take place on a random planet during weekends? A random enemy race would constantly invade human colonies and fortresses and try to take control of all areas. Players would need to defend these areas or lose them until the next weekend. If players are successful in defending, a world boss will appear on the last day of the invasion weekend and players would need to group up and fight it. These world bosses would drop legendary loot with a chance at dropping an exotic or exotic bounty. Fortresses and outposts- then there's fortresses and outposts that are constantly being attacked by enemies of different races during weekend invasions. Players need to defend these fortresses or else lose them to the enemy. Then there would be events where players attempt to reclaim these fortress' for their faction. Which I will get into now... Faction wars- they need to bring back the idea of faction wars. But have it dictate how players react to each other out in the world. If a player is a different faction as another player, they are free to attack that player and can obtain random loot from them. Players can also claim fortress' for their faction and can begin a faction war in that region where players of a different faction can group up and lay siege to the fortress to take it for their own faction. Any players who do not wish to participate in faction wars can simply mark themselves as independent and not fight for a specific faction(But there will be a cooldown so players can't constantly switch between marked and unmarked) -Vehicle tokens- like you said above, I think vehicles can be more useful and I think with the ideas I posted here, they can be very useful for invasions and faction wars. Players can spawn vehicles using vehicle tokens they can purchase at the tower, but they are expensive and have a large cooldown so they need to be used responsibly. Vehicles would include tanks, armored carriers, weaponized speeders, etc. These are a few ideas I hope can be implemented in Destiny 2 or just sometime in the future.
