Please read. (Seriously)

Hello, I am typing this on a more serious note. I have come across many examples of something most of us see and even maybe unfortunately do. Before you say something like,"everyone is like that" or anything like that you think is true, remember. That is stereotyping. Stereotyping is to make a conclusion about a large group of people based on a few examples. Those people may be in the group, but it doesn't make them automatically exactly the same than the rest of the people. A word you all may know is prejudice. Although, that isn't used as often today as it used to be, it is still relevant to society. "Pre-" means before and "judice" is a term for judgment. Prejudice would mean pre judgement. You may wonder how that fits in. If you already do, good job. If you don't, I will tell you. Stereotyping as I stated earlier was make a conclusion about a larger group from what you observe from a small portion. You see the small part of the group and therefore judge the whole group or community because of the small group. Now think for a moment, how would this make you feel? Being perceived just because of how a few other people acted. What if you were discriminated against or were made fun of because of a few other people. Many people will look beyond conclusions others have made. Some people will not look beyond it. This is because there are some people who are too "lazy" to get to know everyone. Maybe if you get to know people in a group, you may see others with similar interests or hobbies. Maybe you may have the same view on some topics. On the other hand, if you don't step out of your box, you may not see these similarities. You may not see common traits. You may not see a kind person for who they are, but rather for the whole group they are in. If you did not pay attention when reading this, I want you to get two things out of this. Always go past the names or titles to get to know a person then decide whether you like them. Finally, do not look at a group as a whole. Look at it as a group of individuals who are all different and unique in their own way. Please spread this around to others, other forums, etc... I am trying to spread the message. Please take it seriously. This is a real world issue. Edit #1: I have confirmed probably the biggest contributor to this. You may not believe it, but it is none other than the media which consists of social networking, news, etc... This is mostly because of how people are genetically coded to function. Years ago, a study was made to study this. They determined that it is the human's reaction to threats or danger that causes the attraction towards bad news. The issue with this is the fact that we would therefore only hear of the bad aspects of a person or group. Example time: There is a subculture many of you may know as the furries. The media trying to attract viewers would only give negative aspects of the group. This would then make people think differently of them even though there are many that are everyday people like you and me. We rarely hear good things about them making it seem like they are crazy which they are not. This also can apply with The Middle East and other groups I didn't mention. It is the lack of positive news that leads to negative stereotyping.

    • Well said. I agree, certain stereotypes can lead to prejudice towards certain groups of people, if all we see is the negative side of that group. (It kind of reminds me of that Russell peters show where he talked about Saudi Arabia and the way the media portrays it.)

      • We have begun a new clan based solely on teamwork in raids, crucible, trials, you name it. We are trying to make a community of our own people from the UK, or at least if they were or still living there. Request to join Destiny British Guardians if you are interested, No rude comments please;) Requirements: you must be from the UK, doesn't matter if you live outside of it now, as long as you are from the UK originally. Must have a mic, that is all. Notice: I am not discriminating anybody that is not from the UK, we just want to play with our own people from time to time. All the 7 spots for non UK guardians are taken, we are only taking UK members as of now. To request go to Destiny British Guardians or search hard hammers1 and you should see the clan, once you see it, click it and then request to join, your request will be accepted immediately if you meet the requirements Please do not request to join clan if you're not from the UK, thank you.
