Witcher 3's one problem

Killing enemies gives so little experience compared with quest completion. This basically means that it's very linear. You can be a certain level at a certain point and that's it. To emphasise this, consider why cd project denied quest experience if you are finishing a quest when you are 6 levels higher than they suggest...it's so that you stay within a band they consider acceptable. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't want to be restricted like this. If I want to become an uber bad-arse by grinding then let me. Don't restrict me by giving no quest experience and insignificant experience for killing. To be clear I don't have a problem with the difficulty - compared to the souls games this is easy - but coming from a jrpg background I don't appreciate artificial limits being place on my development. Anyone else disagree with how cd project have handled levelling in this SINGLE PLAYER (and awesome) game? If nit, do you also agree with "rubber banding" in racing games and other artificial means of keeping things competitive. This is the type of thing that ruined the elder scrolls series after morrowind. Edit: to those who keep thinking I'm talking about the XP bug: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/psa-witcher-3-has-an-xp-bug-but-that-might-not-be-/1100-6427663/

  • I hate Witcher 3 because of this reason. This was my first Witcher game and I had a horrible experience. If this is an open world, free roam RPG, why can't I power level and be ridiculously over powered for every quest? Doesn't make sense and I HATE it.

Witcher is a series that revolves around its cast and story. Do quests, unravel the mystery between Ciri, her powers, and the Wild Hunt. Discover the connection between the Church of the Eternal Fire and a immortal Vampire. Find out why the Emperor has a witch chained up in his dungeon. Resolve Geralt's emotional difficulties regarding portals. TAKE MONSTER CONTRACTS. Walk the Path. This isn't a JRPG. You can't get to level 40 by slaying rats.

      • You're wrong on all counts. I agree with the leveling system. Keeps it interesting, makes it hard to just stupidly out level everything. I would find this game boring as all hell if I actually out leveled everything and could pretty much one shot everything. That would be retarded And since I believe that it doesn't mean I like rubber banding in racing games ......completely different style

            • I love The Witcher 3, but they've dumbed it down so much... No doubt to please the casual crowd (console). Paths hilighted on your minimap? Regenerate health in combat by drinking water? Enemies are way less aggressive than The Witcher 2?

They launch a game with game breaking bugs lol!!!! Then the fix they pump out to fix their f up contains more game breaking bugs! !! Lol!! Wouldn't have even cared if they didn't talk shit. But they just made themselves look like straight idiots

                        • CDPR have got the XP thing right IMO. I, like many people, are playing The Witcher 3 primarily for the story. I don't understand why people want to go around killing mobs and levelling up for the hell of it; what's the point? It gets boring very quickly, like Destiny did. What I tend to do is play the game using one character build, and replay the game using a different build. That's where the real fun is. Who wants to be a level 100 God ffs? Still, each to there own I guess...

The problem with your complaint is it's moot; you can literally just keep doing sidequests and ignore the main story quests. As long as you're doing side quests that are level appropriate you'll keep levelling up and getting farther and farther from the story's recommended level. I'm at the end game at level 33 and the main quest shows up grey for me so.......

                            • I have to disagree with you. I'm still in act 1 and I'm lvl 20. Most of my lvling was done doing side quests, exploring all the question marks, and witcher contracts. Most story missions I did I was way over lvled and had to up the difficulty just to have some sort of a challenge.

                              • Their band of acceptable makes monster fights feel like Monster fights, though. I get into fights a lot, if I got xp for all of them then I would just be aceing something that should be fun and challenging.

                                • I found a Cyclops guarding a place of power on Skellige. Kill it, meditate for an hour and it respawns. It gives 50xp. It's not much but after a few hours grinding I got to 42 and was able to use a sword I wanted to craft.

                                  • I'm at lvl 36 and its almost impossible to advance when I'm getting 2 exp from lvl 30 enemies. I have a sword that's lvl 46, I would have to kill close to 10,000 enemies to use it. They need to add stronger enemies asap.

                                      • I'm not positive, but is the experience needed to level up consistent? That would explain why the XP on mobs diminishes. From a "realism" standpoint, that makes sense - you can only get so good by doing the same simple thing repetitively. Practicing nothing but free throws or penalty kicks won't make you a better dribbler, programming nothing but simple parts went make me able to work with complex geometries down the road. Killing level 2-4 drowners or wild dogs won't make you better at killing level 20 wraiths, either. I sort of see your point, but it smacks of exploiting. That's not a slam on you, everyone loves a good exploit now and then, it just seems like CDPR decided to close that one down. I have no problem with it, just means multiple playthroughs to do everything and have it be "worthwhile".
