The Universal Remote

The UR is good where it is

Now, some may think this an unpopular opinion, but I adore the Universal Remote. When I first got it (a couple months before the dark below came out) I knew I'd like this weapon. My friend I played with almost constantly had talked about how cool it sounded and how bad he wanted it. I honestly didn't care until I got my hands on it, but when that happened, I knew it'd forever be my favorite exotic. The concept is simple: A shotgun with precision rifle range (I'm assuming they mean scout rifle). Although the weapon has some pretty slow handling, I think that's kind of a good sacrifice for such crazy sounding range. But when I finally got the range perk, I noticed something a bit strange. I could tell that other shotguns had better range. See, even back then when I knew it could be out ranged (I guess that's the best term I could think of) I still knew it had potential to be a great weapon. A primary shotgun with pretty decent range? Count me in. I messed around with combos for a while until finally settling to make it a PVP only weapon. I finally got the Praetorian Foil, and then I got Jolder's Hammer, after that, I found a PVP set up that felt more comfortable than anything I'd really ever used in any FPS. Things were great for a long time, but I noticed more some more problems with each update that went by until finally the House of Wolves came out. Now, this DLC is awesome, except the road getting here was rough for the UR, and I know I'm not the only one who sees this. Not only has every shotgun nerf affected the UR (which, personally, I don't think updates to weapons should apply to exotics, but rather the exotics should get updates made specifically for them instead of just grouping them with all other weapons, I mean come on, they're exotics) but DLC's coming out I swear just destroy the usefulness of the gun in PVP to the point where after pretty much exclusively using those weapons in PVP since I got all of them, I decided to change my entire selection. I can spit farther than the UR now and probably do more damage with a stick, The Praetorian Foil's accuracy is now abysmal, and Jolder's Hammer is more likely to hit the team mates around me than the enemies in front of me. What I'm getting at here is that something should be done about these things. Would I love for these weapons to be brought back to their original glory? Absolutely, but that probably will never happen. What I think should be done instead would be that whenever an buff/nerf comes out for weapons that exotics and raid weapons should be left out. We're talking about top tier weapons that people spend loads of time trying to get just being thrown in with common things you can buy. That's not cool and that does not make a good gaming experience. Now I know what some people might say about the UR, "Well yeah its exotic perk is to have more range, but think about this, it's a primary shotgun! That's pretty much a perk all on its own!" and please be quiet. If the damn thing didn't receive the short end of the stick (heh) so many times, I'd absolutely agree, but I can't when I'm pretty sure the range perk affects nothing about the gun anymore. Now if you want to know what I think should be done about these three guns and really how exotics should be treated in general, I'll say it here: The UR: the grimoire card literally says, "A weapon that packs a close-quarters punch, yet has the range of a precision rifle. Universal Remote is that weapon." I'm not saying allow it to one shot at scout rifle range, but giving it the kind of range that maybe a real shotgun would have is a pretty good way of buffing it. Maybe instead of shooting buckshot we could have the thing shoot slugs, that'd be exotic and unique. The fire rate is okay, but really just faster weapon handling all around would make this thing better. If I can't have the range then I at least don't want to wait a century to reload the damn thing, and waiting such a long time between shots for such a small magazine isn't great either. And maybe that's another thing that should be addressed, the magazine size should be increased. if the range were increase, 5 would definitely be reasonable, but to me bringing it up to 6 would be amazing. Now, when I list these things, I don't mean to say them as if all of those should be applied, just one of them, mostly the range because holy crap this gun needs it. Now, as for other exotics. Bungie, when you decide to put up a patch that affects weapons, please leave all of the exotics out of it. You've made these crazy good weapons that are supposed to be top of the line and we're only allowed to have one slot open for, don't spit in our faces by making them only as good as stuff you can buy in the tower. Now I can sort of see why raid weapons would be close seconds, but not vendor gear. Whenever you guys think an exotic should be nerfed or buffed, work on it, don't toss it in the trash. As for my other two legendaries, it's fine if they stay the way they are now, I still adore them, just please no more nerfing. I'm not sure what happened when HoW came out, but suddenly they just went down the drain. "To the untrained eye, this beast is a junker. To the trained eye, however, this junker....is still a junker..." -Mr. Fruit

  • With 2.0 the UR is absolute wreck. I only wish they'd increase the base impact.

    • Universal Remote is a great gun as it is, honestly. I don't think it's in need of a buff at all. Plus the aesthetics remind me of Borderlands, so that's a plus.

To the trained eye, however, this junker....is still a junker..." -Mr. Fruit[/quote] PREACH! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCh FOR PJTTING MY AGONY I TO WORDS! I can't begin to explain how much I feel your pain. I feel like I'm a natural shotgunner. Every FPS I have played I prefer shotguns. And this is no different. I agree 1000% with every point you made in your post. Especially the part about it shooting a slug instead of a buckshot. (think of the ksg in Black ops 2) it's really hard to choose the UR because honestly it's inferior to almost every other shotgun even though IT'S AN EXOTIC PRIMARY! How can I consistently lose gun battles against legendary shotguns? Junker indeed... The range perk, the most important one, is indeed non existent. Even while ADS I get out shot with other shotguns at the same range. Even with everything I have been through with destiny, the most infuriating thing to date is when I read the patch notes for update 2.0. There was not a single thing in there about addressing the issue with UR. Bungie you are Not that oblivious to the behavior of this Junker. Increase the fire rate, or increase the range while ADS, give it double shot package, give it a slug, increase the mag size, increase the handling, apply snapshot, or give it single point sling, please Bungie just do something to set this shotgun above the rest. Make this Junker the Beast u say it is. Because my eye is trained and I see a Junker that's a waste of an exotic and a primary. It's A PRIMARY EXOTIC FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! PLEEEAAAASSSEEEE END THE AGONY!!

          • I believe that the range should be buffed by way of shot package. I am aware that "primary shotgun" means something, but getting out shot by every Felwinter, Found Verdict, or any other shot package shotgun with more base range is infuriating. UR reloads slow, handles slow, and without snapshot, aims slow. A solid range buff/ shot package hidden inclusion would be great. We UR users aren't asking for the world, we just want our Exotic gun to do it's job: Shotgun from range and out shoot legendary shot guns.

          • Saying that I hadn't been much of a shotgunner is an undertatement. Until maybe about a month ago, I just never used them. I'm a solo-er, so in most "serious" combats, the sniper is my go-to gun, though Murmur came in a good second for a bunch of times when I wanted to have two elements convered w/o needing to switch specials and not lose a ton of ammo. But then I got the UR one day, I think from a NF.And as I began to level it up, I started having a ton of fun with it. Being a primary, you are just about never lacking for ammo, for one because primary drops a lot, and two, because when you're killing things with it, you can just about not help pick up the ammo at that range. Second, it's great when you just want to run-and-gun, and only occasionally wanting to aim. This makes it great for chaotic fights. To me, one of it's great strengths is with the new HoW planetary events. Pair the UR up with the Vestian Dynasty, and you have a great pair of weapons that can really do a number on the Fallen. Plus, these battles are not the carefully scripted fights of strikes, but rather the epitome of the random battle. I still won't use it for my NF/weekly, but still, when I want to have some mindless fun on patrols, UR all the way.
