Discuss all things Destiny.

Destiny is doomed from hemorrhaging casual players.

Many of us construct articulate, thoughtful arguments regarding Bungie's baffling management of Destiny. Our complaints are not whining or crying. We are not children. We work for a living, have families, and real life obligations. We don't have hours to play every day, and we choose not to spend our weekends on the couch where the only human interactions we have are through a headset. We are willing to work hard for game gear, but finding a group and playing without getting Attention Contacting Destiny Servers shouldn't be part of said work. And, when lightening strikes and we do hear from Bungie, the response is often snarky, insulting, and illogical. We have every right to complain: Bungie has turned what should have been an epic - and epically FUN - game into a frustrating, confusing, and unrewarding grind. Their over reliance on RNG, absence of a skill-based reward system, and lack of matchmaking or in-game LFG is deflating and infuriating. Instead of an open world, we were sold endless loops. And before you simply tell me to quit, you should know that if you love Destiny, then you need me. You need the casual players with some disposable income. You need the students whose parents bought them the game, and can only play around homework and chores. Casual players have bailed from this game by the millions, millions! This iteration of Destiny may survive this hemorrhaging for a while, but unless Bungie starts catering to MY demographic - and to casual gamers, in general - any future Destiny products are doomed. Exactly! Edit: Thanks to proactive members of this Community, we got the attention of Forbes Reporter Paul Tassi, which, in turn, certainly got Bungie's attention. Check out Tassi's piece from yesterday: If Bungie built Destiny around groups, they need to help players find them. June 29 Edit: I still love playing multiplayer with my sons, but have zero interest otherwise. I have a bunch of unleveled gear, that as far as I'm concerned, can rot. Now, my interest has turned to trying to keep Bungivi$ion's money-mongering, player-gouging tactics from becoming the norm for game publishers. The loudest noise I can make is that of my wallet closing.

  • You goddamned casuals made the asswipes at bungie make a game that's rated T instead of M. They were money hungry, got your money, no one cares whether your incompetence hasn't allowed you to do the funner part of this game. Big middle finger to Yall

    • I'm confused... do you think the game will not survive because there are too many casuals or not enough? I think the game is already geared towards casuals. A new player can get to 32 with no help pretty quickly. The matchmaking wouldn't work for end game actually BECAUSE of casuals. End game stuff is for dedicated players who put their time in. It's for those who strive for all the right weapons for each fight, for those who level said weapons and those who use communication, teamwork and skill to beat the challenge at hand. It's not for those looking for free gear or those who like to AFK or those who just like to be a fly in the soup of others and ruin efforts for their own twisted pleasure. Trials of Osiris and PoE are the answer for those looking for skill based rewards. Especially the Trials. Do a certain thing, get a certain thing. I like to be the contrarian as much as the next guy but Bungie has done a decent job as of late for addressing this games shortcomings.

      • this game couldn't be more casual its purposely designed for Casuals players to be able to log in here and there and the RNG has a chance to give them the best rewards in the game . you can equip pvp faction items and do PVE content and still rank up and get rewards you rank up with vanguard just playing the game and get rewards you run any strike at any level and you get rewards do bounties and you rank up and get rewards come in last place in PVP ? usually get the Best Loot can do all bounties on 1 character in 15 to 20 minutes can do weekly bounties in 20 to 40 minutes depending on locations ( once a week) can do weekly in 15 to 40 minutes ( once a week) nightfall can do it in 15 to 40 minutes ( once a week ) can Crota normal or Hard raid in 30 to 40 minutes can do VOG normal in 30 to 40 minutes VOG hard is the only raid that will take a casual group an hour + to clear POE 28,32,34,35 each can be cleared in 20 to 40 minutes . the only truly difficult thing in the game is to get 3 people through ToO .. the game has been out for a YEAR if you have not Done VOG Normal and Hard by now ? serious wtf? that's not an issue with the game . that's an issue of you choosing not to do the content ... Crota and POE has been out for Months and you still haven't cleared them all ? wtf ? I have NEVER once used the APP and I have cleared Vog normal / hard ( in multiple groups ) and Crota Normal and Hard ( in multiple groups ) and POE 32/34/35 ( in multiple groups ) . Would an in-game LFG tool or Lobby help make it easier ? yes and i have been a very vocal supporter of it ,,,, but that has nothing to do with Casual players RULEZ everything, cater to us or your game = Failz dudez ,, it would be a nice easy to use feature , but it isn't a make or break feature. and you want what ? the game to be even More casual ? the reason the game has Lost Millions of casuals is because there is nothing in the game to do , the Casuals already did all the content a few times and got bored and LEFT ... as they do in every Dumbed down Easy mode MMO type game ,,, because that's what Casual players do ,, they do everything and then they Leave ,,, Casual players are not Invested in games for the LONG haul .... some will buy TTK , beat all the content in a week and won't play destiny again till the next DLC or possibly never again . others wont ever play destiny again they are off to the next 10 games ,, that's what casuals do , they have no Loyalty or Passion for a game, they play, they get what they want out of the game and they trash it and move on . ( you yourself said you do not even do anything but run some multiplayer with your sons ,, you have gear Loot you aquired and do not even level it ,, what you want Bungie to come wear your gear and level it for you ??? ,,, the game is so easy and casual that you are BORED and you want it even EASIER ??? really ??? well the game is about to get alot more Puzzle oriented , and supposedly increase in difficulty in TTK ,,, so you might want to casually look for an Easier game like maybe Loadout on ps4 ,,, that';/s an easy shooter ) your confusing CORE players with Casuals ,,, or what Destiny would call Veteran Players ,, these are the passionate players that even though the game has many flaws they enjoy playing this game over any other game . they are not Hardcore Raiders as there is no Actual Raid game in Destiny ( 5-6 players is a Normal size "Group" in most MMO game and Group Dungeons in Real MMO games have between 8 to 15 bosses in Just 1 dungeon and there are usually 2 to 4 dungeons every 10 level range and 5 or more at Max level ) to call the 6 player "2" count them "TWO" in Destiny "Raids" is laughable at best ... can't get more Casual than having only TWO 6 player Group zones in "Group" game that has been out for year ... on top of that the Raid rewards over all are Underwhelming except for a couple things. they are CORE players --> solo, group, raid, pvp <--- CORE PLAYERS and they are here for the Long term not the Casuals ,the casuals could care less about you , me, destiny or anything except the next game to blast throughat light speed on the easiest mode setting available lol Forbes, Paul Tassi , that guy is not reporter , he is Blog writer . he is the equivalent of raids in Destiny compared to Real Raids in Real MMO's ... I'm sure Destiny is Shaking in their shoes . i personally am NOT buying TTK till i see PLAYER reviews,, but so far everything i have read ( and i have Read Alot of INFO ) the things that have stood out the Most to me are " Public events in TTK wont be a a walk in the park anymore " " the Taken king is here, he is pissed and he has brought an army imbued with some serious abilities " " new and old strikes reworked to have Multiple possible mobs spawn locations, expect to see the Taken showing up at the Worse possible times in older strikes " "Strike bosses with more unique and Varied abilities " " the Largest Raid Yet in Destiny " and many other Tidbits and Teasers that are all saying """Destiny is about to Finally be a little bit Challenging " and if it proves to be true i will buy TTK ,, as currently this game is a Cake walk and a Half .... I hope TTK is seriously a Huge Step up in Difficulty to make this game the Challenge it was meant to be ,, that would keep me interested and wanting to play for 10 years ,,,, because IF this game gets anymore Casual i personally do not see it doing more than limping on until Destiny 2 . Casual players do NOT hold a game up CORE players do ,,, and CORE players can be Hardcore SOLO / Group or Raid Plyers,, they are all Here for the LONG haul . if you want Casual , go play a Indy cell phone game,, i bought my PS4 to play Challenging Video games like Bloodborne and Battlefield and Dark Souls and Final Fantasy 7 , etc , etc , keep this dumb down casual shit on last gen ,, and bury it there , forever . Hopefully the Dev's do not get sucked under the casual Buss that has run over ever MMO in the last 10 years since WOW was released ,,, anybody name me a Great challenging hard MMO that has come out in the last 8 years ? oh thats right all MMO's are Casual now nd they all fold and become Ghost towns in a year or less .... hummm casuals hold up games??? WRONG... they ruin games ... Casuals are not and NEVER were the Answer, they are a Quick Payday today and GONE tomorrow,,, its the CORE players you need to keep happy and interested and have good, fun, and Challenging content to make em stay for the Long Haul ...

I dont hate or despise casuals, im a hardcore player myself. It just angers me im over 120 cryptarch and 40 dead orbit and a casual who barely has 1/3rd of that still has the same gear as i do. I want rewards for achievements like that. i dont like senselessly grinding to a neverending rank without rewards that are given at benchmark ranks. With that evident its proof bungie only feeds to the casual gamer. Alot of hardcore gamers would enjoy the game more if there were items in the game or content only achievable through grinding. it rewards us and makes us happy. but the fact of the matter is, somebody who plays 2 hours a day can have the same gear as people who play non stop. *edit* With that all being said. My crosshairs and anger aren't pointed at you casual gamers, its aimed more towards bungie and their lack of managing the game to a likeable status to aligns with my opinion about it. Granted its my opinion, it is not indeed fact.

                • Destiny is a much better game than most..if it doesn't meet YOUR standards...do not play. I think Destiny is amazing. It has outdone Halo, COD, Battlefield and any other shooter available on the market. Destiny was designed in the image BUNGIE wanted...NOT YOU. Yeah Bungie will listen to the player feedback and take the constructive criticism and work towards improving Destiny the best they can. But honestly if Destiny doesnt appeal to the "casuals" or whatever bullshit you want to call yourself, then maybe it's not the game for you. Yeah i get you want it to be better, you see its potential, you are only trying to help, blah blah blah. You offered no solutions, you just simply complained. So my friend get with the game or GET OUT.

                          • While I don't agree with some of the details, I do agree that any game needs to listen to casuals as much has hardcore players. It's the same with needing fanboys as much as haters. Progress needs multiple points of view, not just from a select, very-biased point of view. That said, I disagree that many "critics" on both sides of table aren't whiny crybabies. May of the threads the offer "criticism" do come off extremely whiny and disrespectful and don't offer any true solutions. What's worse is that you offer a point of view that's opposite of the OP that isn't any less valid, and get called a fanboy or hater by those who think that they know better (and often than not actually don't know better). I watched a news video on YouTube recently talking about a rumor about Half-Life 3 not being made. One of the supposed reasons was Valve was afraid of any potential backlash if HL3 was anything but perfect. While it's hard to say if the rumor's true the point is still extremely relevant. The gaming community as a whole has grown to a point where if a hyped game isn't perfect you might as well of signed a death wish. Game is just great? Should be ashamed of yourself. Game is just good? EVERYONE IN THE COMPANY SHOULD DIE. I'm not here defending Bungie like some idiots will assume, but the gaming community has a whole needs an attitude adjustment because we're absolutely pathetic. And the Destiny community is proof of that.

                            • Dude, RNG caters to the casual. You can play this game for 2 hours a week and have just as much of a chance at getting the best items in the game as someone who plays 2 hours a day. 2 hours a week would be one raid, 3 nightfalls, 3 weekly heroics and a PoE. A skill based loot system would be based upon well obviously skill. A way to acquire skill is through practice and repetition. The more you'd play this game, or other FPS games like it, the better you'll get at it. The better you get at it, the higher your skill level. A 2 hour a week player will never compete with a 2 hour a day player when it comes to skill. The way a new player can pick up the game today and be at max level in about 25 hours of playtime just like those of who have 500 hours of playtime also caters to the casual. In fact, the only thing that this game does not do to cater to the casual is matchmaking. There's pros and cons there as some people can be outright trolls and dicks, and I can just see it now you get matchmaking into VoG and you have one guy who decides he's gonna let Praetorians repeatedly take the sync plate to even open up VoG.
