Thorn for Dummies
I am at the most frustrating part of the Thorn bounty. Getting 500 points with Void Kill Weapons in the Crucible.
While I do play Crucible, I die a lot, and nullify any progress I make within minutes of entering a new match.
Does anyone have any tips on how to get past this part of the bounty for myself and others who are not the best at PvP?
I've seen some strategies suggest starting a Control match, getting kills while holding a point, and if you're not in the top 2 ranks after the first 2 minutes then bailing and leaving the match. While that sounds like it works I would like to explore other tactics that would not rely on me ditching a team mid-match.

8 RepliesPlay conservatively and try to stick with a teammate. I used a blue Fusion Rifle and basically either went around kill stealing, or picking off enemies that were weakened or not paying attention, while simply getting out of any situation that I didn't think was favorable.

I used praedeths revenge and corrective measure, played smart.

-Use subclass to your benefit (voidwalker + defender) defender melee is particularly useful (some grenades do void as well) -Camp heavy ammo in narrow corridor maps with a shotgun. rocket launch with grenades & horse shoes is 2 easy free kill or a high damage machine gun is 6 or more. Note: some heavy exotic armor gives double ammo and truth gives 3 rockets -play control (easiest best K/D) -word of crota hand cannon (athelons is trash) -if your getting skunked in a match (leave and start a new match)

I'm stuck on this part to. I'm sitting at 29 points. I rerolled a sniper rifle till it got void. Then I use sword breaker and just got word of crota that I'm maxing out till I try again. Basically all void weapons

you don't have to be great at pvp for this. assuming all your kills are void (easily accomplished if u are a warlock, more difficult as a hunter or titan), u will make progress with only a 0.5 K/D. U get five points for a kill but only two points for a death so u can do this AND NEVER GO POSITIVE. the key is to keep that in perspective. u don't have to go crazy running around the map trying to be Rambo. Heavies spawn at A or C. Depending on which flag you have, defend that space CONSERVATIVELY and camp the heavy. Corrective Measure is great for this--high ammo count and a pretty easy weapon to use. Hide a bit after the heavies drop so all the enemies with rockets can expend their heavy ammo and then come out and kill people trying to take your flag. If u played the last DLC the Vanguard sold a void hmg MGA1 steak sauce or something like that--any void heavy will do. I used a void fusion rifle which worked great and if u have word of crota use that (it is better than Atheon's Epilogue). Sometimes the other team will steamroll u or there is a bad connection with a lot of lag--just get out of those games. Otherwise don't quit unless u are getting owned. Try not to lose all your progress--slow and steady wins the race. Any game with positive void points is good even if it is just a few. u will get there and then everyone will hate u for using your thorn. good luck.

Used a void shotgun and and bought a green void machine from the gunsmith. It took quite a bit of crouching, invisibility and waiting. You can't just run around all over the place shooting at anything you see move and expect to get this bounty. Atleast that wouldn't work for me. I would get kills that way, but would also die too much. Stealthy play worked waaay better for me on this one.

I've always heard how hard the thorn bounty is... but I gotta say, it's really not bad at all. I'm not even that good in pvp, and I started the bounty yesterday and after only a couple hours I'm almost done with it. Just play conservatively and you'll be fine. I've been using Word of Crota/ Praedyths or Judgement VI/ Truth and it's working great

2 RepliesIf you're a hunter, try going invis after crouching and then barrel stuffing with a shotgun. Don't be afraid to camp for it. I used an epilogue before they ruined autos and it was great for it. Don't know how well it's perform now though

I used a Void Shotgun. I don't remember which. It was a blue, lol. I set my Hunter to have crazy agility, extra slide distance and invisibility. It helped a lot.

Done quit, that's scrub tactics. I did it pretty quick, just a few short sessions. I was a void walker warlock, so that helped. I didn't have a void primary, so I run void sniper and heavy, preferably a machine gun, just cause I feel you can't get a lil more bang for you buck that way. Play control, and kinda try to camp B if you can. If it gets overran, don't be afraid to run to a clear area. Focus on your sniper and just try not to die. Hope this helps

I don't get what quitting the game accomplishes. Damage is already done. For me it was all about staying alive. Better off with one or two kills a match staying alive the whole time than it is running in killing a fair amount but dieing just as much. Just chisel away. Also try not to watch the numbers like a hawk. It only ends up discouraging me. Get a friend to help pass the time and turn it into a joyful day playing together and forget about the bounty. But don't forget about staying alive and running from danger! Before I knew it I finished it. Back on Xbox I played solo so I didn't have as much fun as I did this time around on ps4. Solo I would camp heavy spawn with truth. Not much else needs to be said except watch proximity detonation! :) also used void fusion so I could stay far away. But that was before they shit on fusion rifles. Guessing you don't have a void primary? I want one so bad. Bet it's great for this bounty. Don't be afraid to play like a bitch. Camp heavy with void gun. Camp period. Crouch always. Don't attack more than 1-2 people at a time. Run away if you need too. It makes me become the player I hate. But I got the Thorn. And never ever touch it. Even in pvp. If you are mostly PVE it won't have much use. And hopefully not much more use in pvp! It's a tad on the ridiculous side. Two shotting a titan wearing eternal warrior mid FoH.....

I'm not very good at crucible and I did it when iron banner was on. I'm rubbish with shotguns and fusion rifles were a bit slow as I was getting killed before the shot fired so that didn't work. I ended up waiting for the heavy ammo, loaded up my machine gun and tried to stay alive long enough to kill a few. The first 100 points are the hardest and the last 100 are the most frustrating!

Yeah that bounty is really easy if you have a void primary weapon. Finished it in a couple fun hours with my Atheons Epilogue auto rifle

I've raged over this bounty. It sucked on my hunter but is well worth the time you put in. I didn't have a good primary so this is what I did. Equip a void shotgun or fusion riffle. Whatever you are most comfortable with. Play maps that you a familiar with. Stick to high trafficked areas and wait for them to come to you. Control worked best for me. Oh and patients. Took me a while to get it done. It pissed me off for a while but then I started to get better and my points started to quickly rise. Thorn is well worth the frustration. Hopefully Bungie doesn't listen to the winners about nurfin it.

word of crota praedyth revenge truth play control sit behind your team and pick off players sometimes players will try sneaking around to get the flag you have this gives you good 1v1 opportunities if they bring two run. if you are looking like your gonna lose a fight run. if your team is playing to run an gun caping flags all over and/or dying often all at the same time spawns will probably be flipping a lot sometimes leaving you alone in parts of the map separated from your team if your not careful. either stay with the team as they move around map if there just all dying just leave the game. i kno you dont want to bail but you cant afford to be dying because your team is getting ran over. just stay with team assist are way better then deaths 10/10 with all void kills will get you like 30points a game

Use void weapons, play conservative, if you get at least a .5 KD you should be making some progress, if you just go positive all with void weps, you will have it done in no time. also if you have a subclass with void damage(voidwalker or defender) USE IT:this makes all your ability kills also go to the bounty progress

If you are running a titan i used the defender class with the void grenade (pretty much a guarenteed kill) I played a lot of control and was kneeling beside points we had captured since i knew they would try to capture them. I had a void primary auto rifle, a void fusion, and a void heavy machine gun. only took me 3 hours i think, since I tend to get antsy and die unneccesarily.

Edited by keeberov: 5/27/2015 8:46:44 PMI am avg at PVP. i used my warlock voidwalker, epilogue, swordbreaker, truth. every grenade, melee or super kill counts. if u use that setup, u need to maintain like a 0.4 K/d to continually go up in pts. once i moved to this build it only took like 10 more matches to get it. and lemme tell ya, its worth it.
