When you are killed as the boss is simultaneously killed (Round 5) in Prison of Elders, there is not enough time for your fire team to wait and revive you before you are ported back to the central hub. There is no way to revive the guardian who happened to die as the boss was killed. The guardian that is dead does not get ported back and cannot be revived by anyone.
The guardian can go to orbit, but cannot join the fireteam through any methods. An error message occurs when the fireteam leader sends an invite stating something like the following: "The event is almost over, please wait.".
Unfortunately, this happened to me while helping friends down the Level 34 Prison of Elders. I got my drops for the week already (Thank god!), but I still missed out on the two chests with motes of light/strange coins.
This bug (while it shouldn't happen very often) is unavoidable with the current mechanics where the doors are closed off. Could you imagine someone clearing 35 for the first time? Ouch.
I am just letting others know of this bug, and maybe Bungie will notice it so they can look into a fix.
*Please notice the video URL I attached. It shows off the tail end of the issue we encountered.*
Thanks!

Two of my friends and me cleared the level 35 PoE this Saturday. It was my first time and their second time, but after beating Skolas we didn't get any level 35 specific loot (no ship, no shader, no emblem), although we all had enough space for it. We still got the cores, but neither one of us got anything else. That's a really bad bug, that needs to be adressed.

Same happened to me...

Just poking around YouTube, I found another group that happened across this issue. Bumping this in hopes there is some visibility on this bug.
