Having a debate with someone on another thread over this and want the communities perspective.
Gjallarhorn strategy: before starting the fight all players use a heavy synth to max on rockets and let their cool down pass so they can use another during the fight. After the cutscene ends basically all 3 players run left and 1 person kills the servetors which allows skolas to tske damage. The other 2 players start firing staggered gjallarhorn rockets (365 attack) at skolas this cause him stagger over and over. After the player who kills the servetor does his job he/she switches to gjallarhorn and joins in with the rocket barrage. Heavy ammo synth is used again and the rockets continue to fire. The poison is totally ignored and the boss dies before any of the additional enemies are able to join the fight. After skolas is dead the team dismantle the mines in peace.
So is this a legit strategy or a total cheese of the system?
Edit: 102 replies. 101 are in favor of it being legit. 1 post calling it a cheese. Keep them coming. Also this post is now trending.
Edit 2: I'd kinda like to see someone from bungie comment on this post.
Edit 3: so overwhelmed by the response, this is my first trending post lol. Been trying to replay to all comments, espically the ones saying it's a cheese. Let's keep this going. Keep voting and commenting.

Don't believe this is a cheese. It's legit but after the gally is nerfed this will be more difficult. I never used to have a gally for the first 3 months of gaming (my time not year one) and no one invited me to raids etc. skolas is the ultimate prize for gally but nerfing (wolfpak reduce damage) the strategy won't be that effective.
-
It's a strat that works so well cuz it's solar burn, next week it'll be a lot tougher
-
Majority won. Enough said
-
Legit method. It's still hard even with running left. I think this week it can be done because we have solar burn but I would assume next week it's something different like arc Burn. Nothing comes close to a gjallarhorn even if thunderlord is good
-
I think its bullshit that you need 3 Gjallarhorns. Its not exactly easy using any other strat than this.
-
I don't have the gally so this is impossible for me
-
Don't forget about the weapons of light

Edited by ShadowStrider09: 5/24/2015 11:56:43 PMIf there was another way to actually beat him please enlighten me, if the only way to win is to use this "cheese" then people are going to cheese it, and if it's the only way, it's not a cheese. Edit: I don't think people can read :/
-
Just so you all know Deej posted about this. They are fixing the "exploit" asap. So get in while you can.

It is a legit strategy yes, but its also pretty borring, i like all the mechanics of this fight and such. If you want my real opinion though, they choose solar burn on purpose to see how fast we would be able to burn their end boss down on purpose so that their later bosses would have a good idea on how to counter that. Ofcourse not everyone has a Ghorn either so eh.
-
Right so because we think of a strategy that works and fast it's now a cheese. How do some peoples minds work I wonder?
-
How is it a cheese?? Your using the game mechanics in a way they were designed? Ghorns dps is not a cheese! Now, if someone unplugged their ethernet cord right as skolas stumbled, leaving him forever stumbled, that would be a cheese.
-
It's not a cheese it's just using a burn to your advantage. And s nice ass bazooooka Anyway next reset in pretty sure they will switch burns (or no burn) and things will change
-
It's a legit strategy, but it is Bungie's fault that they continue to be unable to balance encounters so that Gjallarhorn can't be used to bypass mechanics. They are also too scared to admit it warps PvE and will likely never nerf it.
-
The 11% who say total cheese are the ones who don't have a ghorn
-
So using weapons is now considered a cheese? In that case everything has been cheesed, and that means nothing was cheesed.
-
-
You're kidding right? Why is this even a poll? How could anyone possibly call using a weapon cheesing?
-
A cheese is an exploit of a unintentional game glitch that allows you to win an encounter without playing the intended way. Gjallarhorn cannot be a cheese because you are using it the way it was intended and you are using the synths the way they are intended. Also, they designed the encounter to give you a window of opportunity to do some damage before the other enemies start crawling out. If you can dish out enough damage before they come to finish him off, good for you. If you can't, good luck but not impossible.
-
It took me an hour and a half do to. That's not a -blam!-ing cheese
-
It won't be possible if solar burn is off. Hopefully the modifiers rotate.
-
Guys it's cheesing if you use supers, fists, guns or grenades ok no more of that bullshit
-
How is it cheesing? It's not like it's easy
-
That's what my team did. Two warlocks and a titan, no bubble. He was down when the first mine appeared.
-
It's not a cheese, but there's a serious problem with the difficulty of an encounter when it becomes nigh-impossible to do without a specific weapon.
-
It's practically the only possible way to do it which is obvious proof that Skolas's health needs to be tweaked a little.
