All The Iron Banner Grinding, All For Nothing... :(

Monday May 4th , 7:00 PM EST, 8 hours until the weekly reset... There I was, standing at an empty front desk. My what a slow day it has been. Seeing nothing better to do, I pull out my phone and launch the companion app. I went to the tower map and touch the Iron Banner icon. I looked at all the lovely weapons and gear that Lord Salidin had to offer us guardians, but there was only one prize I was after. The Iron regula helm for the titan. It was indeed a beautiful piece of art, almost too precious to wear. With the two wolves and the tree of iron etched into the fine metal of the helmet, I knew from the moment I saw it, I had to have it. I looked at my Iron Banner reputation, hardly level three. I was 2400 event standing away from putting that helmet on the head of my exo, but I knew that the grind would in fact, be real... Monday May 4th, 9:00 PM EST, 6 hours from the weekly reset... I looked down at my watch. Finally, quitting time. I counted the money in the cash register and locked it for the night. I waved goodbye to my fellow co-worker and wished him a good night as I walked out the door to the parking lot. I walked towards my car and then found myself breaking out into a run as I remembered I did not have much time until the reset. I hoped into my care and started the ignition, nothing. I stopped for a second and did not believe for a second that my car was dead. I tried again and again for at least 15 minutes. I slumped back in my chair with my hands covering my face, trying my best not to panic. Just when I was about to give up hope, a knock came from the window. I looked towards the sound and saw my dear co-worker, Alex. I opened the door and he asked me if I needed a ride. I did not hesitate to say yes I hoped out and gave him a big hug. It turns out that there is still some hope of me purchasing the helmet of the iron banner... Monday May 4th, 9:50 PM EST, 5 hours until the weekly reset... As we drove down the highway, the only thing I could think about was that helmet. We were about ten minutes from home when ahead of us, I saw something that could not have been good. The was a long line of cars, and at the front, a detour sign. "Uh oh, looks like some construction." My friend suggested. "Hope this detour doesn't take long." I thought out loud. We finally got to the front of the line and turned off to follow the detour. At this point, we were heading in the exact opposite direction of my apartment. I waited in the front seat as continued on with the detour, thinking of every second wasted not playing in the crucible. We finally got back on the main road and continued on my way home as I prayed that that was the last obstacle between me and my helmet... Monday May 4th, 10:20 PM EST, 4 hours until the weekly reset... There it was, my apartment complex, I was driven up to the front doors and almost forgot to thank him for the ride as I jumped out and rushed to the doors. I ran through the main lobby and watched as the elevator doors closed. "Oh come on!" I said, luckily no one around to hear. I ran towards the service stairs and ran up three steps at a time. I finally got to the fifth floor and sprinted down the hallway to my door. I scrambled through the keys, which seemed like a life time, and jammed the door key into the lock. I burst through the door, kicked off my shoes, and made for my Xbox. I picked up my controller and held down the home button, activating my console. I then dug through my pile of games in order to find destiny. After popping it into the disc tray, I started it up, selected my character, picked up some bounties from the tower, and head off the crucible, ready for the grind... Tuesday May 5th, 12:00 PM EST, three hours until weekly reset... I couldn't believe it, match after match and not one win. I had 5 medallions ready to be redeemed and three bounties ready to be handed in. I finally gave up playing with randoms, I opened up my laptop and headed to Destiny LFG (a great site where you can find people for anything from patrol to raids) and started looking for a group. After a good 20 minutes of searching, I finally found the perfect team. two titans, two warlocks and a hunter, all 32 and no squeakers. I sent him a message and waited for what seemed to be a life time. After finally getting a party invite, I joined their fire team and headed off the crucible once again. Unfortunately for the first few games, we had not luck, mostly because we were going up against other six man fire teams., But eventually, we one our first match and I went from 0 to almost half way to rank four. I then thought to my self, "Hm, I just might make it..." Tuesday, May 5th, 2:30 PM EST, half an hour until weekly reset... As me and my fire team progressed, I was able to get three quarters of the way to rank four. I estimated that I needed to complete one more bounty in order to finally rank up. We had just lost a match and three of the fire team members said that they had to go. After they left, everyone else kinda just went as well. I played one more game, and my only goal was to get two more head shot sprees, which proved to be difficult, you know, course i'm a titan who likes shotguns and fist's. It was near the end of the match when I saw a bounty box appear to the side of my screen. Yes, I had completed the bounty, helmet here I come. There was two minutes left in the game and we were crushing them, so I saw no reason to leave early. After the match was complete I backed out into orbit and made way for the tower, thinking of my helmet... Tuesday May 5th, 2:40 PM EST, 20 minutes until weekly reset I landed in the tower and sprinted as fast as I could towards Lord Salidin, I looked at the clock on my laptop. 2:40 it read, It was good to know that I had time to spare. I walked up and opened up Salidin's inventory, but to my amazement, the helmet was not highlighted. I mover my pointer over it and was surprised to see that I was 2000 glimmer short. I pulled out my ghost and returned to orbit with one place in mind, the exclusion zone. I opened my star map and made way for Mars, consuming a glimmer bonus as I did so... Tuesday May 5th, 2:55 PM EST, five minutes until weekly reset.. I did not have time. As I killed the last of the Cabal majors, I pulled out my ghost and headed to orbit. As I set course to the tower, I tried not to think about what would happen when the clock hit 3:00. I spawned in the tower and ran strait for Salidin, not paying any attention to the group of guardians, tea bagging in ad circle, Christmas noobs. I ran up to Lord Salidin and opened his inventory once again, moved my pointer to the helmet, smiled, and clicked. Nothing happened, the smile was immediately wiped off my face. I tried to press it again and again and again, but it did not pop up at the side of My screen. A gray bar appeared at the bottom of my screen reading "ATTENTION, CONTACTING DESTINY SERVERS." "No, no no no no oh god please no." I cried. Moments later, My screen went black and a notification appeared which said "Disconnected From Xbox Live" Followed by an onscreen message which said that I must be connected to Xbox Live in order to play Destiny. Out of all the time that my internet at to cut out, it had to be now!?!??!?!?!?!??! I connected back to Xbox Live, selected my character, and headed to the tower, fearing the worst... Tuesday May 5th, 3:01, one minute after the weekly reset... There I stood, facing a gate that only let me peer into a section of the tower, closed until the next Iron Banner event. I did not know what to feel. Anger, annoyance, frustration, sadness. But instead, I laughed. I laughed and laughed until I was done. I turned around so that I stood facing the enormous moon-like being known as the traveler. "I guess this is my, destiny..." I pulled out my beloved ghost and within the next six seconds, I was gone, sent back to orbit to continue on to my next adventure... Well, next time I see Salidin, I will have a few words for him... Edit 1: It occurred to me that everyone thought that this story was true. For the record, this was just a fun little story and it was actually funny to see how many people thought this was real and took it seriously. YES, I know I got the reset wrong, but it does not matter cause it never happened...
