[Guide] How to be the Sword Bearer in a Group

I know this is pretty old news here, but as the House of Wolves approaches. I really wanted to encourage those that may not have tried sword bearing before. I explained basic strategy as well as sword bearing mechanics. Hopefully a few can benefit from this video! If any one else has any tips please comment down below as well! It's crazy the small percentage of people that have even raided in Destiny let a lone be sword bearer. Hoping we as a community can help encourage those that may have been intimidated to taking that responsibility to carry the sword. Tomorrow's video: How to Traverse The Abyss on Hardmode [All Classes]

  • Title is miss leading. This is a guide on how to USE the sword, not be the sword in a group..... Just in case any one actually came in here to learn how to BE the sword bearer in a group: 1:) Say You are amazing at it 2:) Always say you are better than any other player who wants to use the sword(if he has 200+ clears, you have 300+) 3:) If they bring up your stats, say that the stats are wrong and bungie is stupid. 4:) When you fail, blame everyone else. 5:) After you wipe a few more times, say the game is lagging and leave. Or Say that you have an amazing raid group that are all Level 32 with ghorns, and you will finish this with them, then leave.

    • There are plenty of threads about combos to use and damage outputs, so I thought I'd share a couple of tips that aren't directly related to button combos. 1) As the relic holder you are the de facto captain of the team. As such, it's your responsibility to make sure everyone on the team knows what strategy will be used and that everyone knows how to execute it. Take five minutes before starting the level to tell everyone which strategy is being used. It saves time in the long run, I promise. 2) Check your connection status before starting the level. Most of the glitches people describe in the Crota encounter can be directly attributed to lag. If you're constantly getting smashed by Crota while invisible or the sword is despawning instantly then go back to orbit and make sure you get made the party leader. This will usually resolve lag issues on your end. 3) if you're running with randoms, make sure you have enough DPS to make Crota kneel before you start. It doesn't matter how good you are with the sword if you never get to use it. 4) Make sure that you set up your subclass for maximum agility and armor. Agility is most important because you want to get to Crota with the sword as quickly as possible. 5) Be comfortable with whatever combo you choose. If you want to experiment with new combos that kill Crota faster then let your team know up front. Generally speaking a guaranteed kill is better than risking a wipe. 6) if you do use boomer distraction bubbles make sure to call out which side you're taking the sword to before you grab it so that the titan has time to get wherever he needs to go. 7) if your team does have to go to the ogre or center room call it out as you're getting away from Crota. They should know anyway; but you're the leader so call it out anyway in case someone is asleep at the wheel. 8) if you screw up and die don't worry about it. Every swordbearer has been smashed by Crota at some point. Don't blame glitches or lag. If something needs to change for the next run let the team know. If someone on the team has a problem with you running the sword, tell them to run it themselves or shut up. Stay positive and keep the mood light whenever possible. The team will follow your lead. Good luck guardians.

          • Sword as a 31 on normal is the same hits in hard practice there if your a 31, being 32 is easy on normal 11 hits all up to finish crota! I would encourage level 31s to learn like this, when you get to do it in hard theres experience is there!

          • I'm newer to swordbearing than other people, but I have two sworded Crota on hard with my Hunter. I usually use RB RT RT RT RT but soon I think I will try RB RB RT RB RT or RB RT RB RB RT.
