Does anyone else think crucible marks are a chore to acquire? Why are they so much harder to get than Vanguard marks?
Let's use weapons as an example. Like Vanguard weapons, crucible weapons cost 150 marks. You get 3 marks per win in the crucible (2 for losing). This means it takes between 50-75 games to get a weapon!
Now, let's factor in how long it takes to play a crucible match. Usually around 15 minutes, no? So, we're looking at 12-18 hours of gameplay not counting searching for games and loading times. All of this for a single weapon...
Vanguard marks are a bit tedious to acquire also, that's true. But, at least you get marks for completing the Nightfall and weekly. You also get 5-6 marks per Vanguard strike, along with drops! So, there is much more incentive to play strikes than crucible where rewards are few and usually crap.
Why bottleneck crucible item acquisition this way? It's not like crucible weapons are leagues better than Vanguard weapons. The Vanguard sells the Secret Handshake, for example, arguably the best shotgun after Felwinter's Lie.
TLDR
Crucible reward system sucks. Getting marks is tedious and an obvious, unwarranted, bottleneck.

Lmao 3 marks if you have the nightfall bonus.... Somebody is new to destiny.
-
I agree, maybe if bounties gave a few
-
They should give you bonuses like COD. ( i.e 1,000 head shots = 25 crucible marks.). Something. There should be bonuses. Totally agree. There needs to be more ways. Double crucible mark weekends when iron banner.
-
Agree that the crucible rewards system is garbage but I happen to always have marks and commendations since I'm usually repping one of the factions.
-
Vanguard marks are the chore..its a lot faster and less boring going around killing other guardians than having to complete the same old missions and tasks over and over again
-
I hate doing crucible, because of Felwinters. But soon they shall taste my Invective...once I finish the bounty..heh heh...
-
Used to think that until I started playing crucible. I easily cap each week.
-
Because crucible was a last minute addition to the game to appease all of the people who play games strictly for pvp. That's why doing raids and getting vanguard marks are the easiest ways of leveling up and getting gear. That's what the game was based on until they got a little heat by not having a competitive multiplayer.
-
Crucible games should award 4 marks per loss and 6 per win.
-
I remember how I got my marks and rep from turning in materials :,c
-
I play Crucible so often that I'm never below 180 Marks, its all I spent on mats
-
We should get 5 marks per win, and a guaranteed engram/mote of light.
-
Agree. They need to give out more per game, or give us some for turning in crucible bounties. Maybe bring back the material exchange for crucible at least.
-
I have 200 not sure what I should buy this week maybe a gun
-
You get 3 for a win, 2 for a no win.
-
I've been maxed out on crucible marks on all three accounts for months. I couldn't care less about it.
-
And buy what with them?
-
I hate when I'm grinding for marks and don't realize I've hit the cap already
-
Actually need to either remove the mark cap or the weekly cap but that's another story
-
It's 3 marks for a win and 2 for a loss, Nightfall has no effect on the marks. Besides that little correction, I have always said the earning of marks was too slow. It isn't much of an incentive the way it is.
-
Agreed.
-
Destiny's PvP is just plain harder than PvE.
-
I agree with you. I only get to play 3 times a week and I'm generally spending 1 day with the raid and Nightfall and the rest of the time helping friends. I never get a chance to jump into the crucible. Now I wish there was a way to convert Crucible Commendations into Marks. I level up my factions really quickly and have like 30 some odd Commendations.
-
If only we had a system where we can trade in materials for marks... Oh.
-
I max crucible every week..
-
I rarely play PvP. If it wasn't for the one week I subjected myself to the IB and maxed my crucible marks along the way I never would have bothered grinding out the last 50 to buy my Vanquisher. I figured I was two third of the way there already so I may as well grind the rest. Glad I did though, the Vanquisher is awesome, but I don't think I'll ever play enough PvP again to buy another weapon.
