Why all the hate for DS2?

Why is there so much negativity towards Dark Souls 2? I thought it was amazing. From narrative to play style to environment. Its a beautiful game. Its less gritty than the first Dark Souls, sure, but that doesn't matter. It's a quality game. Sure, I'm excited to return to the roots of the souls, but DS2 brought a new world with bigger expanse. I do hope that the world is connected again, though. Everything leads to everything. I do hope that the multiplayer experience of DS2 sticks, though. Thoughts?

      • Never played it due to getting the now current gen system but I loved DS1, my friend who used to play DS1 with me says the second one is quite hard compared to the first, is that true? Or is it just another difficulty curve to master?
Why is there so much negativity towards Dark Souls 2?
DS1 levels though smaller were more complex with secret alcoves and short cuts looped in on themselves which helped make it feel like a formerly livable world. DS2 levels are spread out like a Web with a central hub and strings shooting out in different directions but with little interconnection. This is a matter of opinion but most prefer the level layout of DS1. DS1 does however have superior hit detection. In DS2 The clearest offender would be the Giant Lord from the Giant's dream that is being bombarded by flaming boulders. His foot stomp can land a full character length away from you and yet you still get flattened. The overall difficulty of DS1 is higher and many "Traditions" are left out. For example there's no massive enemy at the beginning that crushes you. Demon's Souls and DS1 both had a massive demon that you encounter straight off. In both cases if you were skillful enough or properly prepared you could kill the beast and earn a massive weapon. But ONLY if you beat them on the very first encounter of the playthrough. In DS2 the only real threat at the beginning are the Ogres. Which you could completely avoid or just pepper with a boat load of arrows. Fittingly there's no special reward cuz there's no special skill needed to defeat them. On a side note Bloodborne starts the game off by having you eviscerated by a werewolf and the first area has no less than 3 distict shortcuts.

Aside from the either Server lag or just messed up hitboxes & The lack of story or the lack lore depth?, I really did enjoy it. I loved it,just as I did 1. I beat it several times before I lost my USB with my data on it. Then I was like...200 something hours down the drain...."F*ck that!" I know some people felt it was easier, but at the same time I just felt like Dark Souls 1 & Demon Souls vets would be too well trained from previous games to really have an issue. DS1 taught me to play cautious 1st time around, and that's what I did.

                • I loved Souls 2. It felt like the pvp was improved, and combat felt a bit quicker and I felt less inclined to use a sword. I didn't like some of the weapon imbalances though. There were and still are some pretty cheap builds if you use weapon enchants. I remember hex builds being ridiculously OP too. They would just spam and roll in hope of getting a lucky hit or two. I also feel like Greatswords were too risky. A fast or laggy player can get around you and BS almost every time. Turtle and jesters armor bothered me too. People would stack armor and do nothing but backstab, while using 4 blessings to buff their armor through the roof. Soul memory was also a jacked up system, even though they did create a ring to help with the issue. Lastly, I liked the weightyness of characters in dark souls one more as well. Just my personal preference I guess. All in all though I do like DKS2, but while they made a lot of things more accessible and improved a lot in pvp, I can't shake the feeling they messed up a lot of things.

                • The PvP was perfected. I didn't enjoy the solo gameplay as much. The game was amazing.

                  • I feel like the hate went into the way it looked compared to the first and some of the controls being different (just because I remember bitching about it the first day I played it but got over it the next day). Just a guess but I honestly have no clue and whatever it is, since I've already forgotten it, it must not be something to really be worried about since it still has a strong fan-base or at least not to worry because it isn't that big of an excuse worth leaving the franchise for. Just a thought and sorry for the long comment but I'm still a fan of the franchise. Praise the sun \o/

It's not that I hate Dark Souls 2, I just don't like it and never quite figured out why. It does look off, though. I got the platinum trophy, so I still spent plenty of time with it, but from the moment I started playing, something felt wrong about it. I thought that I'd get over it eventually, but never did.
