The Vex are the good guys.
I know this statement can come across as a bit shocking, but hear me out.
The Vex are biological robots which can travel through time and space that are
"...thought to be buried within every celestial body. Linked by a network unlike any on Earth, they operate in unison, directed by a single unfathomable purpose."
These machines arrived with the Darkness and during the collapse transformed Mercury into one of their machines. However, it appears the Vex have dormant networks under every planet, just waiting to be revived.
"According to Ishtar Collective records, Vex are capable of generating simulations of real-world events with perfect fidelity and predictive ability - essentially running a parallel reality in their minds which is arguably indistinguishable from the "real" universe."
My theory is that the Vex have been to the future to see that humanity has become the most evil race in the galaxy, most likely do to the arms race against the Darkness. Humanity is most likely oppressing or destroying any alien species that poses any sort of threat to prevent a second Collapse. The Vex returned to the past and ran their simulations to determine what the best course of action is to help all the species we hurt or destroyed. Sadly for us however, the best course of action is to remove us and other war focused species like the Cabal or scavenging species like the Fallen from the universe. This may seem hypocritical as this would make them a war focused species, but the difference is the Vex are fighting not only for their own survival like the humans are, but the survival of species we humans have yet to encounter.
So there's my theory; please add to or help revise as you wish. Thank you for your time Guardians.

I remember reading something like this in the grimoire. Something like Ikora Rey's thoughts on Vex.

Hello...cowcow
interesting theory. Maybe you will end up being right in the end. #destiny2
If I remember correctly, while they were looking into the vex goblins mind all they ever saw was them being tortured or killed in the worst way possible. Clearly they're the good guys
-
Whoever shoots at me is a bad guy....
-
Yeah im totaly with this theory! I do not think we are The good ones atleast. Wery cool and fascinating theorys
-
A theorist.
-
If that's true, then your actually saying that the hive are the good guys... The vex are controlled by a hive mind. And the hive are definitely not good. Cool theory though.
-
Tell that to Hobgoblins who shot me like hundred times.

No. The Vex are like the 'Borg' from Stark Trek the Next Generation. Their one purpose is to assimilate and expand their control across the universe. Why would the Vex terraform Mercury, and try to do the same to Venus (Nexus Mind Strike), if they simply want to take out humanity? They also arrived at the same time with the Darkness. Couldn't they just have gone back to a time when humanity had no capability to defend itself? No, they arrived with the Darkness because they are a ploy to the Darkness. Now, I don't like arguing on lore which is circumstantial and subjective to the creators of a game, so I'll say this: Destiny is very centered on Light vs. Dark. Activision made this game generic in that sense.

There was another theory that Atheon was a good guy. Yup. A raid boss an ally. Hard to believe but hey it has some logic. Atheon, derive from Atheos, Atheos means hero somewhere, Greek? Anyways, the theory resolves around Atheon being a possible leader or conduit for a faction within the Vex that thinks of (where I adapt some of your theory) another course of action they deem more successful, which is why Atheon is locked away in the Vault of glass with the Gorgons and the Templar to serve as guards and a warden. The relic was a complete anomaly to the equation and wasn't supposed to exist there; until Kabr came up and died and then his light made the Relic. Thoughts?

I believe the traveler is some bad an u know kanal right we'll he says he wasn't alone? Cuz u need at least three for the first part of vog but if he wasn't alone maybe the traveler pushed him into the futur thinking he was alone but actually we are there beside him this whole fight while were the present he's the futur but someway can't see us.

I agree, read this, its a grimoire card: "The Garden grows in both directions. It grows into tomorrow and yesterday. The red flowers bloom forever. There are gardeners now. The came into the garden in vessels of bronze and they move through the groves in rivers of thought. This is the vision i had when i leapt from the shores of time and let myself sink. I walked beneath the blossoms. The light came from ahead and the shadows of the flowers were words. They said things but i will not write them here. At the end of the path grew a flower in the shape of a Ghost. I reached out to pluck it and it cut me with a thorn. I bled and the blood was Light. The Ghost said to me: You are a dead thing made by a dead power in the shape of the dead. All you will ever do is kill. You do not belong here. This is a place of life. The Traveler is life, i said. You are a creature of darkness. You seek to deceive me. But i looked behind me, down the long slope where the blossoms tumbled in the warm wind and the great trees wept sap like blood or wine, and i felt doubt." That alone makes me believe the vex are good.

Edited by RantingMuppets: 3/16/2015 3:07:53 PMSorry but the vex sound too much like Daleks from Dr.Who My proof of that is simple. Both Daleks and Vex have a tiny organic being inside all of that armor and they both have no remorse for anything. But i am not throwing away the possibilty that the vex MIGHT be the good guys but its very much a long shot. I do have to hand it to you it got me thinking

Yay! More people who are as into lore as I am!
-
This is a great theory man. Nice work!
-
Very good nice research and definatly a valid theory I'll share this with my friends and see if they agree with me Thanks for the theory!
-
Wow that's dark. Awesome theory.
-
Sounds like the buggers from Ender's Game
-
I think the stranger is a vex and she's from the future.
and there is no reason for her to have boobs.
-
A virus corrupted them DIH
-
No, the Vex Descendants worship the darkness, and the Vex Precursors oppose it. (Look up the definition of Atheon.) The Precursors are the good guys, but the Descendants aren't.
-
So basically they're reapers from mass effect But they didn't activate until the collapse when they could've wiped us out as soon as we were seeded Maybe they were actually fighting the darkness, not necessarily allies but have a common enemy in the darkness (Goes back to the atheon theory of him being against the other vex)
-
I quite like the theory that the vex were created by the traveller but corrupted by the darkness after the traveller abandoned them in another universe the corrupt vex then began to fluctuate time to aid them in seeking revenge on the traveller which is why they have dormant networks on every planet the traveller planned on creating a new race of vex the gates etc were for this new pure race but instead the corrupt vex used technology to replace the pure breed of vex and use the gates to their advantage
-
They're described in game as "an evil so evil it despises other evil".
-
Cool thought
