Crota's End on Normal - Bridge Encounter. I'm using a fully upgraded [331 Attack] SwordBreaker with Hive Disrupt: Bonus Damage to Hive Majors.
Honestly, the Shotgun damage improvements are noticeable and almost make me want to use a Shotgun in PvE a lot more than I currently do (which is not at all), but here's the thing: Bungie didn't fully consider the problem, which is "Why aren't more people using shotguns in PvE?" The answer to this question is NOT "Shotguns don't do enough damage." That's part of the issue, but not even close to the full issue.
I think the *real* reason that Shotguns aren't the weapon of choice in most PvE situations is because of the risk involved in getting close to an enemy. Even if I'm firing off 3x more damage than normal, against a high level enemy, I'm as good as dead. When you look at the other choice of: Sit back and snipe long range for the SAME amount of damage, then there's not really a 1-1 comparison is there?
Watch the video, I think it's proof that it's possible to kill slightly high level mobs somewhat quickly with the new shotgun damage buff. However, one thing I quickly noticed (especially with the sword bearer case) is that the stagger rarely occurs (happens more frequently using a sniper), so enemies will eat you alive on your second or third shots.
At the end of the day, I'm happy they made an attempt to make Shotguns relevant in PvE, but I won't be putting down my Black Hammer any time soon.
What are your thoughts? I honestly don't have a lot of Shotgun experience in PvP or PvE, so there's not a whole lot of ground to stand on when it comes to my opinions about them. Did I pick the wrong "test" in the video? It seemed like a pretty obvious choice being the raid shotgun maxed out against raid mobs one level under my player.
EDIT: In case you're wondering, that is "Blessing of Light" not "Weapons of Light"

Edited by Snoop_TX: 4/9/2015 3:59:41 PMI've be going shotgun crazy since the buff. It makes quick work of the Swordbearer and any high level minotaur. Like you I use a shotgun for the bridge encounter and it rips through all the adds. I've even been using invective on the Deathsinger. It tears that bitch apart so fast.

I like running shotguns. About once a week, me and a few others will have a shotty only daily. We've ran weekly, shotguns only. And had a blast, (pun intended.)

I finally have a reason to level up my Universal Remote!

The main problem for me is that most enemies have powerful melee attacks that makes cq impractical. Especially with light switch

I like what they did with the PVE buff and I agree that there are more steps to take. Such as Bungie creating enemies that will murder you from long range and are exposed in close range. Would be a fun encounter to rush between cover in order to get up close to snipers perched on outposts or something similar. I can only hope they're making encounters like this for the HoW raid.

>shutgun Felwinter absolutely wrecks in PVE now.

Did the nightfall, decided to use a shotgun in the room before you fight the generals. I enjoyed blasting them to pieces but I died A LOT because cqc is not an ideal scenario
