Red Death fires three impact 36 in fast succession (108 per burst) while Suros does 31 at a slower pace. Also, the burst akin to placed shots like a hand cannon is an advantage in maps that are almost always cluttered with obstacles. Red Death won't be for everyone, but if you're a good player that can land those bursts on the head, you will outgun a Suros owned every single time. I've been in matches with my Suros where I was seeing the 31's go off one after the other and the RD owned still gunned me down. Then to add insult to injury, his health would skyrocket to full because of the RD perk.
So yeah, I'll be a first day buyer and will be taking it to the crucible. Just not sure if it can outgun a Thorn which has been my go to weapon since Bungie killed the ARs.
Edit - turns out post-1.1.1 Red Death can do 36 crit and not 32 like I had originally posted. So, yeah, hammer that nail down good.
Edit2 - So I got it and leveled it to where it matters in regular crucible. Imho, I could not be more right. If you have both this weapon and the Suros, it makes no sense to use the Suros over this so yes, Suros R.I.P. (which is the gist of this thread). First, by buffing Pulses at the same time as they nerfed Autos, they made Suros impact weak at the same time as they made RD's impact strong. Then, this weapon heals you for every single kill, this means you can max armor and agility at the expense of recovery because you don't really need it. Single point sling means you can sacrifice some agility to armor which does matter contrary to what some players think. Also, about the "bad" range - I see those crit 36's flying off foes heads for all the ranges I'd use a primary over a sniper rifle, so really what you're all talking about ?? if you used the Suros as a sniper rifle, then yeah, I guess you'll miss out on RD otherwise, I don't think so.

8 RepliesEdited by chill: 3/14/2015 12:06:00 AMRed death can easily outgun thorn. As of now, I think red death is the best pvp primary on xbox. Not sure how it would compare to hawkmoon. Thorn def competes but put two equal skilled players, one with thorn, and one with red death mid range, id wager red death wins 8/10 times. Esp with that healing perk, as soon as the red death user kills thorn user, he'll be healed and won't be affected by thorns DOT. Red deaths perks are so useful for pvp. Unflinching, higher caliber rounds/single point sling, and it's healing+faster reload after any kill. It was made to reign in crucible.

Good gun, but it gets boring rather quickly
-
I only got suros recently after nurf, it's a great auto rifle, was kicking but the other day in crucible, which I hardly play, played exodus blue and burning shrine for the first time ever and got 21/12 and 20/12 k/d with suros, guess I just don't know what I was missing ;)

2 RepliesBad Juju is too good for me to ignore at the moment. Intellect build/string of curses = Spam FoH
-
Genuinely insane how worried people are about hawkmoon and thorn when red death and bad juju are much worse to deal with. Ttk easily beats thorn and TLW
-
3 RepliesYa they killed Suros. In fact, there's never an ideal situation to use an auto rifle. HC scout rifles and now with red death out, pulse rifles all outgun them
-
1 ReplyThorn will win if the user keeps hitting the target. If you wait for DOT red death can come away on top because of the health perk. It's an interesting battle though
-
Well, if you can land all your headshots you can still wreck...

2 RepliesHawkmoon is love, Hawkmoon is LIFE!!!!

5 RepliesYea cuz they nerfed suros almost 13%. If they would have left AR's alone, but still buff pulse rifles, that would have been proper "balancing" what they've done now is instead of tipping the scale to ARs they've tipped the scale to PRs. Notice everyone using pulse rifles? Remember how they said they didn't want everyone using the same type of gun? Yea...
-
Suros and the auto rifles in general are the easiest weapons to use, while I don't completely agree with the nerf they recieved I could snipe titans and warlocks gliding from a extreme distances. Pulse rifles needed a buff and they got it. And I have a feeling that red death will recieve a nerf now that they decided to sell it through Xur and let everybody have it.
-
There's a very real chance that Red Death will suffer the same fate now that Xur is handing it out like candy, just like the Suros. Bungie is not shy when it comes to PvP nerfs.
-
5 RepliesWhy would you upgrade Suros for crucible?
-
1 ReplySuros isn't bad. Red death is just so good. As a longtime user of red death(I've had it before Xur sold it) I wouldn't mind a tiny nerf. Maybe decrease the fire rate by a slight amount. Just to see more diversity in pvp. I've faced so many red deaths today.
-
The red death takes on the Thorn rather well. If you can kill the thorn user first you will get your health back so the overpenetration doesn't kill you
-
Lol it was always a solidarity but never a clinch fight type gun. It was so average, it was good, like Hawkmoon is now. AR's have officially been put down. Very bad move.
-
I loved my SUROS in the last Iron Banner, but since the nerf I am worried about how effective it will be next time.
-
Edited by HSomCokeSniper: 3/14/2015 5:49:27 PMI really can't understand why they had to nerf Suros to the ground. Consider how many powerful weapons there are now: TLW, Thorn, Hawkmoon, heavy hitting pulse rifles, long range shotguns, high rof snipers etc. All nicely diverse and powerful in their own way. Did they really think Suros wouldn't fit nicely into all that. Or would it hurt too much to have at least one useful AR?
-
4 RepliesIf you're really looking to troll... Start the 1,000,001 forum post about how Red Death is better than 3 little words. OR ask which is better. That creates a vortex of major butt hurt on here. red death = 36 per crit + healing 3LW = 38 per crit (no healing). Enjoy! :)
-
3 RepliesI still like tasting the tears my Thorn causes.
-
They really should rebuff Suros back to where it was before the 1.1.1 update, so that way it could actually compete with top-tier guns now such as red death.
-
2 RepliesIt zapped the fun out of pvp for me when my Shadow Price was rendered worthless. Someone did the numbers and the good AR(low rof/high impact) were "nerfed" ~11-13% That's just un fuking believable. I never really liked ARs in pve but why in the world would they have nerfed them in pve too? I'm terribly confused by that. Even the good ARs weren't on par with great scouts or handcannons. Not imo. Oh well. I just don't play pvp anymore. Problem solved for me
-
1 ReplyCall me crazy but I still like Suros, you just need to step your strafe game up...it's not all about the statistics.
-
2 RepliesAn unlevelled suros still destroys in pvp
-
I agree as suros in the beginning was op and now after using it a long time after its only good for Ib now
-
2 RepliesYou still have to land all three shots twice and AIM
