Why is the end game pvp, trials of Osiris, less competitive than normal crucible games? Level advantages are on, how is that more competitive? That would just give an advantage to higher light players right at the beginning, making the “competitive” nature mute. It’s not competitive to start out with an in game boost over an opponent.
And why does the amount of damage needed for kills fluctuate so much? Tempest strike from an opponent kills me in one hit but my strike won’t kill them. My shotgun blasts don’t one shot opponents but I get taken out in one shot by opponents. So how is it competitive to have things fluctuate so much between different levels?
Why are exotics enabled? The unique items that have special bonuses to them, how is it competitive to have them enabled? What’s competitive about somebody bringing in a Jötunn that they got from somewhere else in the game? It gives an enormous advantage to the user. But it’s supposed to be a competitive mode. What’s competitive about fighting against players that have exotics that other players might not have access to? How is it competitive if it starts out giving advantages unless your maxed power? And if it’s meant to be played at maxed power, then what’s the point in the level advantages? Artifact power is turned off so it’s not like that changes it.

157 Replies1. Skill creep. Control has had CBMM for the better part of 2 years now...and better players have used it as their stomping ground. Many use it for outright stat-farming. So weaker players have been driven out of the play list...or stopped playing all together. So matches are super-sweaty and nasty, Player numbers are low, and the talent/skill pool has been distilled to 150 proof rotgut. 2. Trials has a form of SBMM...to the point where it will move you into a lower skill pool if you get shut out in like four or five matches in a row. Then when you start to win, it will trying to match you to teams that have similar number of wins. So even with this, if you continue to try to play on a 7 win card, the matches get REALLY tough. 3. The Freelance list levels the playing field. So you are going up against individual skill...and not seasoned teams. In short, you're seeing why SBMM is becoming the industry standard, and why players are less and less willing to put up with the conditions that CBMM creates. Bungie made the changes to Trials with the EXPRESS intent to create a version that is more accessible.....gives more players a reason to play....and is better at retaining players over time than the winner-take-everything version of the past.
