No, I'm not saying that. The terms of "male" and "female" are relevant to gender.
But gender is not biology. It is social, cultural, and psychological. Sex and gender are relevant to one another only due to the fact that gender identity for a lot of people could be described with a similar dichotomy to male/female sex and both evolved along those lines.
The descriptions that some people have (identifying as a guy) are oversimplifications of what gender is. But there isn't really a simple term that would match completely. Using the phrase "identifying as a male" would be viable if everyone could understand from the context that it isn't generally referring to sex.
