Hi guys,
I own both and admit I haven't played much with the Skull since getting Obsidian Mind. I'm debating whether to upgrade the Skull or not.
I'm wondering if anybody actuality prefer the Skull (or still use it sometimes) despite having the Obsidian Mind. I'm not talking look here but rather play style or effective build. Is there a "magic build" I missed that allow the Skull to somewhat contend with the Mind in PvE ? I'll have a hard time believing the Skull can surpass the MInd, but if it can somewhat contend while providing a fun playstyle variation I'll upgrade mine.
Cheers

I use it just because most don't have it.

Me and my buddies did nf yesterday. He got Light beyond Nemisis and immediately dismantled his skull helmet. Haha!!

1 ReplyI could see maybe using it in pvp, but I'd much rather have voidfang for that.

It was never that good man

Not PvE, but it's great in PVP! I LIVED a golden gun shot and proceeded to let my nova bomb send him into the void. Lol

Edited by Itharak: 1/31/2015 1:59:37 PMThanks for all answers! Yeah I know the Mind is flat out better but the "collector" in me wished to find a purpose to the Skull ... and I did somewhat after googling some more. Here's something I found that work ok for those looking for a different play style once in a while. This build works surprisingly well with sparser enemy, in denser "hive style" just stick to the Mind. So here comes: The enhanced drain basically free you one slot since it doesn't stack with hunger. Hunger extends drain to around 10sec while the Skull around 8. Stats are tested with roughly: 150 Int 250 Disc 70 Str + Monte Carlo (very important to compensate low Str) The key to the build is keeping energy drain constantly running and it is attained with these stats and that weapon. Since drains do not stack alternate melee special and grenade (I use axiom for the fire and forget energy drain) while drain is active pepper with Monte Carlo to refill melee. Result is continuous drain which, with the high disc means lots of naded and potent melee and with Soul Rip faster nova bomb. (Not as fast than Obsidian, mind you;) Use shotgun as special and you get a VW take on the Sunsinger scorch builds. Key skills for this build to work: Soul Rip Embrace the Void Annihilate or Angry Magic, since Hunger is redundant with skull. And I recommend high toughness since the build is melee friendly. There you go! Let me know what you think if you try it! Is it better than Mind with Bad Juju? Heck NO! But it is nevertheless a fun and effective variation. I have yet to try it in PvP but I'll try it tonight (maybe try switching Soul Rip for Life Steal) Cheers, Itharak Edit: forgot to mention, Monte Carlo instant melee recharge seems to occurs WAY more often with precision kills. I've tested this on the first moon mission. Edit 2: forgot to mention, that with the constant grenade Quintessance Transfer manage to refill Nova quit effectively too!

Skull is .. Lame. Yes lame. No usefull perks. Dont touch me is even better. Obsidian mind is a perfect helmet.

Obsidian Mind - Almost everything Apotheosis Veil - Crota Skull - I forgot I even has this lol....

3 RepliesI dismantled my Skull of Ahamkara (SoA for short) as soon as I bought Obsidian Mind (OM for short). I felt OM's signature upgrade was better than SoA's, however, my warlock's Intellect was admittedly higher with SoA.

"Improved Siphon abilities", whatever that means.

6 RepliesI sometimes use it just for show and slightly higher intellect than Obsidian Mind
-
I switch around it sometimes... In crota area i use the obsidian mind so i can keep making orbs for the "swordsman" then skull of ahamkara for the 1st area so im not taking big hits from thralls... But most of the time i prefer using apothesis veil with my sunsinger....

The Mind is game-shattering.

I use obsidian in most things, but skull for crota hard mode, so I take less damage and can burn minions easier
-
Nope...I still use the skull for pvp occasionally though.

2 RepliesI would recommend Obsidian Mind for PVE and Skull for PVP. Obsidian mind has the inverse shadow perk that works better for PVE due to the increase to super by minions of darkness kills. Skull does not have the inverse shadow perk, but it does protect you more when you use nova bomb and your siphon abilities work longer when using your melee, which in my opinion are better for PVP. Hope this helps.
