I have some questions. I'm a hunter and have been from day one. I don't do the raid, if I'm being honest, mostly out of fear. I don't really like talking when I game and I really don't like playing with people I don't know when I could very easily -blam!- up. But the more I play and the more I hear that I'm missing out by not raiding the. The more I feel like I need to get over it and just try.
So here are a few questions,
Should I get to level 31 before I even try Croats end? I'm a 30 right now and could easily be a 31 I just don't know if I should waste the shards to level up gear that I don't plan on having if I raid.
What type of guns should I have fully leveled? I tend to not use shards or energies to level stuff up because I don't know if I want to keep things or get rid of them for something better. Right now u have the TFWPKY 1969 and the icebreaker at 331 attack but that is it. I have dragons breath but without tracking it seems useless and that is the only heavy I really have. The only other one I have is the MG18A Harms Way but I don't really love it so I haven't spent energies to level it.
Is there anyone who will even want to literally walk me through the raid this late in its life? People are already running hard at level 32 and I haven't even played it. Are there people out there willing to walk a baby through the raid?
Any answers and help would be awesome. Please and thank you.
Edit: thanks to all of the responses. I was really surprised that so many were willing to help. I'm on Xbox one and if anyone needs one to raid I can. Thanks to the guys who ran me through Crota last night. A bunch of really cool easy going guys. I made us wipe like twice but everyone was really cool so thanks to you guys.

21 RepliesFirst thing to do before you raid is to delete your hunter. They are terrible for the raid. You'll get carried through like most huntards. Make a warlock and actually enjoy the game
-
You can add me on Xbox One. The guys I raid with are pretty easy going. GT is same as above.

Dude, if you're on ps4 feel free to add me I love helping people out through these raids. Psn: Entirety- Or anyone else here on ps4 that needs help with raids add me :) !

12 RepliesEdited by RealHoosier07: 1/29/2015 8:08:40 PMPS4 VOG RAID TEACHER HERE! Anyone on ps4 that wants a laid back, detailed teacher in vog, add me. The problem with most people that "teach" others is that they still end up getting irritated and impatient with the new people. I never get impatient because I LOVE teaching the vog. This game has been boring for me for a long time now, but teaching new people the vog is the only thing I truly enjoy with destiny. I don't care if we don't beat it, I don't care if we die 100 times, and I don't care about loot drops. I have the weapon I like and all that matters now is having fun. The most fun I have is when me and 5 new people finally make it past parts of the raid that are hard. Hearing everyone cheer and truthfully be excited that we won the battle is so fun. It's why I still play this game. There are many better players than me I'm sure....but I guarantee to any new people that you won't find a better teacher than me. Why? Because it's the only thing enjoyable for me in this game, Win or lose

Unless you find a solid group of friends to go with, you will be forced to roll with the punches in the recruitment tab. Yes, there will always be dickfaces who have to flaunt their eliteness, but the respectful ones will help you. Just get in there and gain experience because it doesn't matter if you fail over and over so long as improve with each attemp.

I used to be like you i soloed almost everything and i found friends and i tried vog normal for the first time and now we run crota normal and vog hard every week its fun for me now that i have my friends. My recommendation is to find good friends and just do it. Good friends are for talk and feel good and not get mad when you have to wipe. If you wanna add me just put my user name on ps4 or ps3
-
If your 30 your good get to 31 before trying crota hard.

1 ReplyI guess it is time for me to get my mic out of the box. I have a 31 of each class and I have not tried the raids, nightfall, or even the weekly but really want to start. Anyone that wants to, please add me on Xbox one. Gamertag: Hall 1911A1 I am very easy going and could care less if you screw up but don't worry because it will probably be me. I just enjoy playing this game and I am looking for other like minded players to play with or teach me.
-
Start with vog normal, ull enjoy it more than most ppl who only ever cheesed it or had to deal with jerks in its early days
-
Honestly if you want to get through raids you need to get on that mic and talk! Communication is key so get used to talking to people, might be out of your comfort zone but we all want to raid and get through it as smoothly as possible. Don't be afraid if you are new we all have to start somewhere. Get on the forums and look for people willing to help there's always someone and look for a clan that's right for you, if you put a post up on the recruitment section people will want you to join so that you can get better and ultimately help their clan to grow!

1 ReplyAre you Xbox or ps4?

1 ReplyEdited by SRose16: 1/29/2015 11:45:12 PMI was the same way till last month when I did Vault of Glass for the first time. I was always worried about screwing up and ruining it for the rest of them team, but it wasn't that bad. Still have never done Crota's End because It's hard to find anyone willing to take it slow with a new person (but I've always done fine once I know what to do, never really a burden on the team) and not just rush through the raid. If you ever need anyone to do something with (weekly, nightfall, or raid) who doesn't mind failing a few times, feel free to add RapidBunny51415 on Xbox One And this extends to anyone reading the comments too if you're willing to help with anything. Haven't found a consistent group for nightfalls, weekly strikes, either

Gt deadestkendo Xbox one

If you want to get your feet wet in raiding I suggest try VoG first. Its much more forgiving since you wont be at a level disadvantage. And to be honest with you the VoG is much more enjoyable as well.
-
Lvl 31 is easier to get used to the difficulty of raids. Maxed weapons are always preferred. Have a variety of weapons to swap through. A hand cannon seems to be preferred by most. A rocket launcher with tracking is also preferred. Patience is a must, for yourself and everyone else. There will be growing pains. But that said, when you finish a raid you will want to raid again
-
I'll help you out, man. Add me. GT is same as above. I'm on pretty often.
-
I'm on Xbox one. Done the hard raid 10 times as sword bearer... Add me I'll show you the ropes
-
I felt the same way as you about raiding. I wasn't much of a talker when I played and I didn't want to screw up and ruin it for everyone. Finally, I got up the nerve to give VoG a shot....it was awesome! I met some really good guys. The raid opened a whole new experience to the game. Last night, I got my first Crota kill as the sword bearer. Not too many things in this game compare to what that feels like. You should definitely give raiding a chance. Highly recommend to upgrade that dragons breath for the Crota Raid. Your teammates will be thankful you are bringing a good launcher to the table.
-
i hear ya! I've been playing since September & i just barely completed VoG & CE. my biggest issue was the chat deal. a friends son has been showing me the raid ropes. after each section I'd just say "tips?" & he'd give me any info that I needed & we'd do fine. I'm still shakey, but the more I learn, the less I need to communicate.
-
Hello buddy. What console are you on? I always complete the raid on hard with my main character straight away and then look for inexperienced players to guide through normal mode. My advice would be to have a decent sniper maxed, like icebreaker, any decent rocket launcher maxed, preferably with tracking as crota strafes but it's not essential and a maxed out primary of any sort. I've been doing the raid at 29 on my hunter so 30 would be fine. 31 would be a lot easier so I'd definitely recommend getting there but it's not absolutely necessary. If you've got an xbox one I'll happily help anytime I'm on. The first two parts of the raid are super easy. The 3rd part is a little harder and the 4th, crota, is easy with communication.
-
I would recommend grabbing a group for normal mode VoG first. Get used to the six man team dynamic and it matters less if you die (you still don't want to die if you can avoid it, but it's less likely to cause a wipe). Plus shards and energy fall like rain so you can get more stuff upgraded. Also Vision of Confluence and Atheon's Epilogue can drop in normal, and having elemental damage primaries will make even the Nightfall/Weekly easier for you.

I used to have the same way of playing Destiny. I'am an old gamers and playing with others wasn't part of my genes. I knew that i was missing something by not raiding. One day, i've decided to move forward and wrote a thread like you. Honestly, i don't regret it, so many nice people, they just want to play and have fun. Hope you will enjoy to share with this huge community and one day you will help others trough the raids :)
-
Get to 31 and you can clear normal easy and hopefully you'll get lucky with a heavy drop and some armor
-
-i hate talking to people as well. i usually keep quiet throughout the entire raid, unless there is something important to say. you are not obligated to talk all the time, unless it is out of importance for the gameplay itself -level 31 is smart, as you can take more damage. i don't see why you should save shards. i have about 150 of them. you wont need them in the future - dragons breath with tracking is a smart thing to bring for the crota fight! - icebreaker is smart to bring to the crota fight to take care of boomers if needed. depend on strategy your team is using i have been in several raids with one or two guys having no experience. it's no problem, as long as they are able to take instructions! the raid on normal is not THAT hard, even for "noobs" you would be most welcome in my raiding party anytime peace!

I'm in the same boat, never done a raid but really need to
