remember the shrine of oryx mission where you fight a giant green night that looks like crota and then you need to destroy the communication sphere to end the level.http://oyster.ignimgs.com/mediawiki/apis.ign.com/destiny/2/23/Moon_Story_Grimoire_Shrine_of_Oryx.jpg. dingle bot says the big sphere in croats end is communicating. we also see another big sphere at the tower. it is entirely possible what you are saying is correct and that oryx is the giant sphere. if we accept this to be true, then we can accept that oryx is possibly a traveler that belongs to the hive.

  • Oh shit... We may be on to something. Why would the hive use inter galactic communicator to talk to another moon location? Seems little over the top.

  • Above the sphere, there's an opening in the ceiling that is glowing white, similar to, but smaller in scale to, the white light experienced at the end of the pit in CE. Ever think it was strange that we suddenly go from being down inside a dark pit to suddenly standing on a random section of towers in what appears to be an outdoors environment? the grimoire (which it pains me to reference) references "Crota... the god holding domain in a threshold between our world and theirs." Chances are, the area in which we encounter Crota is a liminal space between the guardians world and the one in which the Hive draw their power. That thing in the sky is probably just another communications device, which allows communication between the guardians world, the liminal world, and the hive world - and chances are it's one device that occupies all three spaces (or two now, since we destroyed one during the Shrine of Oryx mission).
