Earned vs Welfare Exotics
For clarity, buying an exotic is earning it more than RNG drop. Example: you have the least kills, assists, and revives in pve or pvp and get ghorn. You didn't work for it, if u beat the strike or won the pvp match someone else worked for your reward. You open a chest and pop an exotic. Its free. Not earned. You grind engrams and weeklies and publics for coins. Takes hours thus you earned your coins. Xur items are not welfare. So buy those items guilt free.

1 ReplyI so missed these posts from 3 months ago. You may have earned the money to buy the game. The only weapons that could be considered "earned," would be the exotic bounties... However, even those are random as well

Nah, you get strange coins for doing nothing. They just kind of accumulate by mitosis in my vault. Whn Xur rolls by, it's literally a handout for anyone with more than a few hours played. I agree with him being welfare of sorts. At least RNG drops, you get from raiding and more difficult content generally. Much more rewarding getting an RNG exotic.

Actually - this kinda makes me feel better about purchasing exotics. For some reason I always felt cheated buying one. As though I didn't work for it.
