Solo Legendary on Tsavo Highway is simply IMPOSSIBLE!

Hello people, I just wanted to say that Solo Legendary on Tsavo Highway is impossible. Well, for me at least. Before we get started, if you're going to reply in these forums saying, "Do it on Co-op then" or something along the lines of that, keep in mind that I already did that, and I already have all the achievements. I'm just doing this because my goal on Halo 3 right now is to complete Campaign on Legendary all by myself. So let's get started. The part on Tsavo Highway on Legendary Difficulty that I'm talking about is the part where you walk up that one hill, and when you reach the top, you have two little hut-styled buildings, and they're small. In one of those small structures, you could pick up a sniper, and also, there's a box full of ammo for the Battle Rifle. To make it more specific, it's the part where you have to hold off the Covenant running up the hill, and if you kill enough infantry, a wraith comes to try and finish you off. This is that specific part that I'm talking about! I still can't get pass this part on Solo Legendary! Oh, and, not to mention how the two Brute Chieftains that just bombard you with unlimited ammo of the Fuel Rod Cannon, and one direct hit with that and you're dead. So if any of you know what part on Solo Legendary Tsavo Highway that I'm describing and can't get pass through, can you please provide tips if you've gotten passed this part? So props to people who have gotten past this level on Solo Legendary, and BIG PROPS to people who managed to do this on S.L.A.S.O. (Solo Legendary All Skulls On). So if any of you have advice, I'd deeply appreciate it. Thanks so much, -aBonafideMonkey EDIT: One more thing. How the heck do you get passed that wraith if you kill the two Brute Chieftains? • I actually have a 12 minute video in my file share of that particular part just for you to download Campaign Video Legendary (slot 1) [Edited on 06.17.2008 8:55 PM PDT]

 • It's not impossible, try doing Normal with all skulls on. Once you beat that do Heroic, once done with that, do Legendary LOL

 • It's not impoosible. It can be done if you use the right tactics. About those Chieftains, grab a plasma pistol and use it to take down his armor. BR or grenade him. Take the fuel rods off the corpses and destroy the wraith, Or you can use the plasma pistol, to shut it down for a period of time, then board it from the back, where the gunner has no chance of killing you.

 • hard for sure, but have patience and good head shots. and when the wraith is the only thing left, sneak up and board it.

 • Cortana isn't that hard except for two cavernous parts where the stinking ranged flood are on the ceiling but if you have some plasma weapons its pretty easy. Also the hardest thing is the fact that the environment is uncomfortable and you think its really gonna be hard. Also I just ran past that part going to the right constantly past the space elevator wreckage the wraith will be far to you left and its not hard to avoid the choppers. The next part you can grab a chopper and drive up the large rock to where the wraith is and destroy it with your fuel rod the grab your chopper and speed away b4 another wraith drives up and starts to shoot at you. Grab the sniper b4 the last jet pack encounter and use it to kill all the brutes at the very end of the level. I remember this clearly because i just beat the game on legendary for a friend. Hope this helps you out :) beat the game SL 3rd Day...good game...EDIT:Spelled "use" yous...Lulz [Edited on 06.17.2008 9:09 PM PDT]

 • I've done Tsavo Highway twice on Legendary Solo, once on this account and another time on my other non-Live profile. The second time seemed much harder, but I managed to sneak through the pipes, run past the Brutes, jump towards the Wraith and jump OVER its plasma shot, board it, then hide behind it while my shields recharged from the stupid Phantoms coming in. Then, got in the Wraith and took my sweet sweet revenge. Though I honestly found the Brute encounter in the barracks on Crow's Nest to be extremely difficult too. And the first major Flood encounter in Cortana is bad too, but I also realized that its better to just run by it. Its not too bad after that. I've completed all 3 of the Halo games Solo-Legendary, and I still maintain SL is (in my opinion) low fun factor, but high reward/"warm, fuzzy feeling" when you complete it.

 • I agree with you OP. I got stuck on this very section playing co-op. You have to make sure that you snipe the 1st fuel rod chieftain before the second one shows up. Those guys are deadly accurate with those green globs of death. This reminds me of the impossible campaign moment I ran into this week. I was trying to beat the final driving sequence in a chopper. I'd get to the last jump fine but then I just couldn't pick up enough speed to make it. I tried 3 runs and boosted at different times but on each occasion I fell way short.

 • To answer the initial question of how to deal with that section of map in Tsavo Highway: That section shouldn't be too difficult if you toss down all the trip mines at the base of the hill and snipe the fuel rod brutes. Pelt the rest of the ground troops with grenades. That should take care of most of them. Then grab a fuel rod cannon and knock the phantom out of the sky. After that, run up onto the top of the bridge and start sniping the flying brutes. Then you should be able to board the wraith with no trouble. The spot I have the most trouble with is the area where you have to take out a dozen or so choppers, two wraiths, and three turrets. It always takes me like an hour to get past it.

 •
Posted by: aBonafideMonkey Hmmm.... I know a lot of you are saying that I should skip the battle. I always thought if I ran down the hill, I would just get bombarded by enemy projectiles and grenades and what not. Then eventually die after that and start the save point all over. I'll try it.
Booo, hisssss! Skipping the battle is lame. I'll give you a short walkthough of the trouble spot, with two possible direction to take. Direction 1 is to hang back with the chopper and kill things slowly. Direction 2 is to make your way to the fortress and hold out there. Direction 1: In the previous battle (with the drones), equip yourself with a sniper (one of the brutes has one) and a BR or Carbine. Be sure not to destroy both choppers, because you'll be taking one. Once you have the chopper, take it down the road until you reach the bridge with the gap and barricades. There's a gap between a couple barricades, and you'll see a metal strut sticking out. This is where you walk normally. Drive the chopper to the gap, line up with the strut, back up, and boost across. You'll need to do this on one try, because you'll get a checkpoint right in the middle of it. Now you have a chopper. Get to the battle, hop off the chopper, and dispatch the grunts that are there. Also take out the rocket brute (use your sniper). Rocket (FRG) brutes are the only real threat to your chopper; except for grenades if you have Catch on, but I'm assuming you're doing this without skulls. Anyway, after you've killed those enemies, get back on the chopper. Use the guns to kill any brutes that approach via jetpack. Splatter the rest. Take care of the next group of brutes the same way. Kill the chieftains by knocking their helmets off with the sniper, and then BRing them. When the tank shows up, kill it with the chopper's guns. It will take a while, but it's not hard. Moving forward and backward while you fire is usually enough to avoid its shots. And you're done! Direction 2: Make your way to the battle with a BR and a Sniper. Dispatch everyone in a conventional manner and arrive at the fortress. Use grenades and BR to kill the brutes. Killing them should be very much like killing any opponent in MM. I think 5 shots with the BR kills a fully-armored brute in Legendary without any skulls. Watch out for brutes to jetpack up onto the ridge to the left. A very effective method is to hit one body shot with the sniper and then finish with BR. When the tank arrives, switch your beam rifle for the human sniper if you haven't already. Stock up on BR ammo. Kill all the brutes you can before the tank becomes too dangerous. When it does, climb up on the hill on the right side as high as you can, then run forward, away from the fortress. Follow the path to the bridge, where you'll find more sniper ammo. Kill everyone from up here. You should be able to dodge the tank's shots with long, left-right strafes. Just make sure you are always aware of that tank. Jump down and kill from the ground if you're too bothered by the tank. This can sometimes be slow going, so be patient. Once you kill every brute, I find that the easiest way to kill the tank is to find a Fuel-Rod gun and just unload on the thing.

 • After (or before) the wraith arrives, head toward the pipes on the right side of the area (facing from the entrance), continue up the right slope until you meet a invisible barrier (you should be quite high up by now). Both the brutes and the wraith will pay no attention to you if you continue on the right slope. Hope that helps! PM me if you are still confused

 • This is how you do it. First you would have to start the whole mission over. Then as you get to that part pick up the fuel rod cannon and every ammo you can get. Then when those Phantoms come in, shoot their engines and they should explode killing most of the brutes there. It takes about one clip to take one down if you aimed at the right spot. Then just hijack the Wraith then voila you made it to the next part. Well thats the easy way to do it.

 • You take potshots with the BR on all the brutes. By potshots, I mean you get behind the buildings poke up, fire two shots, get back down waiting for recharge, then poke back up. Something that also helps is that there are like 5 tripmines. What you do with tripmines, is throw it in the air, then shoot it when its next to a brute. You do these things for about an hour. After the two drops of brutes, the wraith comes up. First, take potshots at the gunner on the wraith. After the gunner is dead (about a BR clip), just run up to the wraith and beat down the driver. P.S.- one of the hardest parts of legendary is on Cortana when you're in that one tunnel with a million spiker forms. If you poke up for half a second, you die, not to mention all the flood rushing you. [Edited on 06.17.2008 8:32 PM PDT]

 •
Posted by: Captain K Mart
Posted by: NAKED N00B 14 The hardest part in the game is right before you kill truth and you have to take out two Scarabs. That took me about an hour and a half.
Are you kidding? Take out the banshees, then circle around the scarabs until you can shoot their vulnerables. Takes 5-10 minutes.
...or you could take one of the hornets and land on each scarab and take em down from the inside. And cortana wasn't that bad, its all about knowing what weapons work best on the different flood types and knowing when to run for your life to the next checkpoint.

 • Get the sniper and take out the Cheiftains' helmets by shooting at their heads. Once the helmets are off, finish them off with a BR. Be sure to eliminate all brutes and jump packs before doing this. =) Then, use your sniper again to take out that Wraith gunner. Get closer and find cover each time it fires a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE BOMB. Simply hijack and melee/ grenade it. I hope I helped. o.0

 • Fuel Rod Gun. You can get 3 before the battle: One at the second crashed Phantom, one where Stacker is under attack and one just before the battle. Wait at the pipe where the Phantom drops its troops. When it stops over you, shoot four rods at it's "eye". The Phantom blows up and kills everybody inside, most importantly the Chieftain. If any Brutes made it down, you can kill them pretty easily. Repeat for Phantom 2. When the Wraith comes, the wreckage prevents it from doing anything. Get the sniper, shoot the gunner. Cross the wreckage and board the Wraith, kill the Brute but save the tank.

 • I tried and tried, but eventually gave up. I went back a few days later and decided to just skip the entire part. Wait for the wraith to come in, then use the pipes on the right to bypass the entire area. The downside to this is that you don't get the warthog or any reinforcements, but hey, youstill got through!
