I bought a PS/3 in Feb 2008 and a PS/4 in October last year. It's only since I purchased Destiny [the first game I've played that's required an always-on connection] that I've been impacted by outages like this. I completely understand that maintenance is necessary, but at the same time I would like to hope that companies like Sony and Bungie realise that, actually, their *PAYING* customers can't always choose when to play... We have jobs, families, lives, and other commitments. We just want to get in after a day at college/work/school, have a bite to eat and then relax for an hour by gaming. I've been impact infinitely more since I started playing Destiny [my first and last foray into on-line/MMO gaming] than in all my years of "stand-alone" gaming. I am *NOT* enjoying the experience. I absolutely, totally and completely understand that in 99% of cases, an issue like this will be NOTHING whatsoever to do with Bungie. We come here in despair because it's their game we want to play. Even if the fault is with the PSN, we still come here when trouble starts. But if there's one lesson I hope that Bungie can take away from the Destiny launch, and the PSN hacks and similar issues, it's that modern games *MUST* offer a bare minimum level of off-line support too. By all means limit my activities to i.e. "Patrols" - we have 4 of those, so plenty of variety. By all means put an upper limit on the number of times I can play off-line before getting re-connected and re-authenticating, or limit me to say 24-hours of off-line use. But please, PLEASE, puhlease remember that, much as we might want it to be otherwise, the internet is a fragile thing. Just the other day 2 idiots from the water company and with a jack-hammer dug up the road near my home and severed all phone lines and net connections into our apartment block when they went through the conduit... It took days to fix. Not Bungie's fault. Not Sony's. #### happens. But, for as long as this remains an imperfect world, it is important that games and platform and software developers in general remember that "always on" services in an unreliable environment are going to be fraught with trouble. So, Bungie, Sony, et al... Either sort your #### out, so we don't get any more outages, or give us a section of the game that will work in stand-alone mode. It's not a lot to ask for. Not considering how much we paid for your game.
