Not to do a shots fired... but shots fired on dlc value

Has anyone noticed an inconsistancy with DLC pricing and the amount of content that is provided? It varies in every instance practically. You have the worthless booster packs that are just money sinkholes, tiny item packs and "expansions".Even looking at a games like Diablo 3, Dead Space 3, Dragon Age Origins and Destiny (easy to find games that start with d appearently). Diablo 3 added another chapter, tons of items, new difficulies settings, quest mode and probably things i'm not remembering...like a new job class. Which seems like a huge amount of content for like 40 bucks. DeadSpace 3 added again another couple hours of story for about 10 bucks. Nowhere near how much Diablo 3 added but yeah the cost point was far lower. Then they have these 5 dollar survival packs that add a suit and a couple weapons. The amount of content given in the 10 dollar pack is way most than the 5 dollar pack. It feels like insane knickel and dime action. That not even mentioning their decision to add the Mass Effect 3 "give us money and we will give you in game resources that you can get for free". Dragon Age Orgins added practically a whole new game to a already sizable game. There was even a new protagonist to play as. There was easily enough to do in it to warrent a full retail price. I think it was only 40 dollars though. Destiny added 3 story missions, 3 pvp maps, maybe upto a dozen real new weapons(not just reskins of existing assets), a couple strikes and a new raid. For 20 bucks, it may actually be worth it.. but it doesn't feel like it. The source content just feels like it lacks the base that the other mentioned games had. It doesn't feel like that much work went into it. Especially if these expansions are reskins of existing on disk content. I'm not saying not to get DLC, I will because I want destiny to continue to exist. To become the game I was hoping for.. and that won't happen if we adapt a "it's already on the disc, screw them" mentality. Realistically we are probably doing exactly what is needed for destiny to help forge the direction it should be taking. The Ball is in Bungies court to listen to us and make their product better. The main point I was going for is we need a standard for price to content ratio or something. It feels like we as the consumer are being taken advantage of under the farse of how much effort it takes to reskin a rifle from being gray to being red and blue. What does everyone think? Mob mentality, thats always fun right?

  • From this wall of text 0_o Think about value in this way. You go to the movies for 2-3 hours for 10$ You play destiny 100+ hours. Do I wish for more content and variety? Hell yea. But value wise and if you are still on this game since launch. You got your money's worth.

  • I was a tech analyst in a prior life and part of that responsibility was covering software / video game companies. If you classify video games as an entertainment service, it's hands down the best entertainment value on the market. Some of you level 32 dopes spend 100's of hours getting to where you are. Hypothetically, let's say you had a girlfriend or a family ( I know it's a stretch but try to think out of the box) and you took them to the movies, you would drop 80-100 bucks on movie tickets and popcorn for a family of 4. That's 2 hours of entertainment. Now do the math. I think Bungie is in the first phase of this game development. Use the first Star Wars movie as perspective. The 7th movie is coming out this December....

What you need to do to complete the DLC content is: -Complete the raid, strike and missions on all difficuilties -Get all raid gear and level it up fully. -Get all exotics and level them up fully. -Be able to get to the highest rank with Eris and be able to buy all vendor items. -Complete all Eris bounties -Get to level 32 -Get all vanguard and crucible armour and weapons (DLC ones) -New dead ghosts Edit 1: Dead ghosts. Like this it seems like a LOT of content for £15.

            • as an XBO owner it seems about the same amount of content as TDB and i'm perfectly happy with the $20 I spent on that. My ONLY complaint is that I paided for the DLC and have yet to receve the most important part of it... the hard mode raid.

              • The whole time it took you to write this you could of spent making money. Get your priorities straight cheep ass. 20 bucks was not a big deal for all the time we spend on this game, gotten the most out of it than any dlc I've bought in the past

                    • Nothing will change. Fan boys will let bungie jizz all over their faces and pay them to do it. They think playing a level backwards and adding a 30min raid is worth more than $20. This is why devs give less content for higher cost. They can get away with it.

                      • I'm not trying to justify the price of the expansions, but when I do purchase DLC expansions and games in general I look at the overall utility I get out of the game versus the price. I calculate utility in part by dividing the total cost of the game and expansions by my total hours played. If it's under 1.0, then I'm paying less than a dollar per hour of playtime and that is fine by me, especially if I am enjoying the game. Would I like more content or for the DLC to be cheaper? Of course! But, I've gotten plenty of fun and play out of Destiny and will continue to. I'm not upset in the least. Maybe I'm not price sensitive as some. For me, the game has a great deal of value. I don't expect it to be the same for everyone. Just wish other people (not you, you made a solid point without bias interfering) would understand that defining the value of a good is a very personal and subjective reasoning process.

                        • It is a fair price. Your should relate $ to hours of entertainment provided. You go see a movie and pay $10 for a 2 hour movie aka $5/hour. You pay $20 for dlc and play for 20 hours that is $1/hour. Not bad at all imo. Doesnt matter if the game is repetitive, you are still playing after the initial run through, it means you are enjoying it.

                          • Quite the conundrum we are in as consumers of Bungies products. I will personally be waiting to see what the reaction is to the Comet DLC before buying, and to see how it effects those who do not purchase it. The one thing they did wrong was lock people out of nightfalls and weeklies.....

                            • Look at the pathetically small amount of content we got from Bungie for $20 USD. Compare that to the amount of content Bethesda gave us in the Skyrim expansions... for the same $20 USD. If you can compare those two add-ons, and still think that Bungie is giving you a good deal for your money, then you're hopelessly deluded.

                                • Again due to paragraph issues I didn't read the whole thing. But as far as dlc pricing goes, the only affective way of showing our displeasure would be to vote with our wallets. Alas it seems this method is a thing of the past with sheepish buying habits etc. I mean look how many people bought tdb, THEN moaned about the price. Bungie got the cash, why do they care after the fact?

                                  • I think the largest value item in bothe the original game, and the DLC is the raid. Personally, I think most of the value is in having a raid. that being said, our product is pretty defective being that the raid is so unpolished.
