Glossary for newcomers

Had the idea from another post where a new user was having some trouble figuring out some of the terms / abbreviations most used in the forums. This might be a couple of days late, but it can be useful for newcomers. Its not supposed to have ALL the information on destiny but rather a small description of the most used terms. Feel free to add what you think is relevant or to correct me if i'm wrong and i'll edit the original post. [b][u]Materials[/u][/b] [b]Spinmetal[/b] - upgrade material found on Earth. Needed to upgrade certain weapons and equipment. Can be bought from the Vanguard and Crucible quartermaster by paying the respective marks. [b]Helium filaments[/b] - upgrade material found on the Moon. Needed to upgrade certain weapons and equipment. Can be bought from the Vanguard and Crucible quartermaster by paying the respective marks. [b]Spirit Bloom[/b] - upgrade material found on Venus. Needed to upgrade certain weapons and equipment. Can be bought from the Vanguard and Crucible quartermaster by paying the respective marks. [b]Relic Iron [/b]- upgrade material found on Mars. Needed to upgrade certain weapons and equipment. Can be bought from the Vanguard and Crucible quartermaster by paying the respective marks. [b]Runed Core[/b] - upgrade material sold by Eris (needed level 3). Needed to upgrade "Murmur" [b]Embalming Orb[/b] - upgrade material sold by Eris (needed level 3). Needed to upgrade "Husk of the Pit" to its legendary form "Eidolon Ally" [b]Crux of Crota[/b] - upgrade material that drops as a random reward by defeating Crota's End raid on hard mode. Needed to upgrade "Eidolon Ally" to its exotic form, "Necrochasm". [b]Ether seeds[/b] - consumable that raises the amount of glimmer earned by killing fallen enemies. Lasts 10 minutes each. Dropped randomly from fallen enemies. [b]Black Wax Idol[/b] - consumable that raises the amount of glimmer earned by killing hive enemies. Lasts 10 minutes each. Also used as currency for some items with Eris. Dropped randomly from hive enemies. [b]Network keys[/b] - consumable that raises the amount of glimmer earned by killing cabal enemies. Lasts 10 minutes each. Dropped randomly from cabal enemies. [b]Blue polyphage[/b] - consumable that raises the amount of glimmer earned by killing vex enemies. Lasts 10 minutes each. Dropped randomly from vex enemies. [b]Ascendant energies[/b] - needed to upgrade legendary weapons. Obtained as reward for completing daily heroic missions, for dismantling legendary weapons and as random rewards. Also obtained by opening chests in the Vault of Glass raid and by completing sections in that raid. [b]Ascendant shards[/b] - needed to upgrade legendary equipment. Obtained as reward for completing daily heroic missions, for dismantling legendary equipment and as random rewards. Also obtained by opening chests in the Vault of Glass raid and by completing sections in that raid. [b]Radiant energies[/b] - needed to upgrade legendary weapons obtained in the "Crota's End" raid. Obtained by opening chests in the Vault of Glass raid and by completing sections in that raid. Also obtained by dismantling raid weapons from Crota's Raid. Can be traded for radiant shards at Eris. [b]Radiant shards[/b] - needed to upgrade legendary gear obtained in the "Crota's End" raid. Obtained by opening chests in the Vault of Glass raid and by completing sections in that raid. Also obtained by dismantling raid gear from Crota's Raid. Can be traded for radiant energies at Eris. [b]Sharding [/b]- the act of dismantling a weapon/equipment to get materials [b][u]Game / gameplay[/u][/b] [b]VoG - Vault of Glass[/b], the first Raid (in Venus) [b]Atheon[/b] - final boss from the first raid [b]TDB - The Dark Below [/b]- the latest DLC/expansion [b]Crota's End[/b] - the second raid that came out with "The Dark Below" DLC/expansion [b]Crota[/b] - final boss from the "Crota's End" raid [b]PvE[/b] - Player vs Environment - Used to refer Single player or Cooperative Multiplayer gameplay. [b]PvP[/b] - Player vs Player - Used to refer Competitive Multiplayer (namely, in the crucible) [b]Vanguard[/b] - Ranking for PvE. Has as independent leveling system. [b]Crucible[/b] - Competitive multiplayer arena with several modes. Has an independent leveling system. [b]Cheesing[/b] - using a glitch/exploit to obtain an advantage in the game [b][u]Vendors / currencie[/u]s [/b] [b]Xur[/b] - vendor that only appears for 2 days (friday and saturday) and sells random exotic stuff / upgrades using strange coins as currency. [b]Strange coins[/b] - currency needed to buy stuff from Xur. Awarded for completion of weekly heroic missions or as random rewards [b]Eris[/b] - Vendor that appeared with the DLC, has specific bounties and a separate leveling system; sells equipment and materials you can't get anywhere else. [b]Vanguard marks[/b] - currency that you get by completing PvE missions, objectives, bounties, etc [b]Vanguard quartermaster[/b] - vendor that sells weapons and equipment using vanguard marks as currency. [b]Crucible marks[/b] - currency that you get by completing PvP matches, objectives, bounties, etc [b]Crucible quartermaster [/b]- vendor that sells weapons and equipment using crucible marks as currency. [b][u]Weapons[/u][/b] [b]Vision of Confluence[ (VoC)[/b] - a popular weapon from the first raid and considered one of the best weapons in the game [b]Fatebringer (FB[/b]) - another popular weapon from the first raid and considered one of the best weapons in the game [b]Vex Mythoclast[/b] - exotic weapon dropped by killing Atheon on the hard mode of the first raid, considered one of the best weapons in the game [b]Ice Breaker[/b] - Considered the most sought after sniper rifle due to its massive damage and ability to regenerate ammo. [b]Gjallarhorn [/b](galla, horn, GH, etc) - widely considered the best rocket launcher and heavy weapon on the game, very hard to get. [b]Murmur [/b]- legendary fusion rifle awarded by completing the quest given by Eris [b]Husk of the Pit[/b] - auto rifle of common rarity. Randomly dropped from "Blade of Crota" Knights on earth or the moon. Can upgrade to legendary form "Eidolon Ally" by using an Embalming Orb from Eris [b]Eidolon Ally[/b] - legendary auto rifle. Can only be obtained by fully upgrading "Husk of the Pit". Can upgrade to exotic form "Necrochasm" by using a "Crux of Crota" [b]Necrochasm[/b] - Exotic auto rifle. Can only be obtained by fully upgrading "Eidolon Ally"
