WTF Mate?

Ok, so I try to be helpful. I go to the forums, and when I see a topic that dosen't belong, I say so. I'm just trying to help and let some of the new people know where the stuff belongs because they might not know. But of course, I get flamed because of this. Why do these people have the need to flame people who try to follow the rules, or help others? Man I want to call those guys such n**bs, but I hold back, adn try and think of a more polite way of saying it =P. Any ways, do you guys have any idea of how we might be able to try and increase the amount of respect we have for each other. I mean one guy said he would kill me if he found me, you tell me how nice that it...

 • Yeah, I wish I could increase my towing capacity that way.
Posted by: Crimson Clover Every time I've done it the way I described as above I got good results. But if you're trying to help people in The Flood, then I would suggest not bothering to tell them where their thread belongs. The Flood is aptly named. ;] It's a Flood of useless threads.. and most of the people that go there are bored and will stop at nothing. So the majority of them will say anything that their brain is currently thinking even if this includes flaming.. which they think is okay there since it's an off-topic Forum..
As you said, the flood includes flaming stupidity. I guess some don't get the suggestion in the name that flames don't belong there. [Edited on 6/4/2004 12:30:28 AM]

 •
Posted by: Yoozel Telling the mods is great and all, but they aren’t on at all times. And I do agree that it is a good idea to help members to the right location and directing posts where they should go. I think people take way too much offense at criticism and such, so you made a mistake, whoopee! Maybe they should get to know me: I make hundreds of spelling mistakes! People just need to live by these words: “Don’t Panic”, and fess up that they posted in the wrong place. Oh’ and Rip, I think ‘Moderator’ would pull more weight than any date. =)
Yes but we are on several times every day and this isn't a chat room...so...problems don't have to be delt with immediately. Sending us an alert is the best way.

 • Yeah, tell stosh or Shishka, not Rip. They both have Nov. 2001 Member Since dates as well as "moderator" in their avatars. So they are kinda more senior than Rip on all counts. :) - Reiginko

 • It's our responsibility as members of the Seventh Column/Bungie Forums to promote (relatively) peacful interaction between all members of our community, so that when we take over the world, we don't have quite as many pissed off teenagers listening to Jimi Hendrix rehash. What am I saying? PURPLE HAZE FOREVER

 • It might not be our job, but we can sure as hell help instead of standing around and doing nothing.

 • Live...I think the reason so many ppl get upset with ppl who tell others that the topic is off base and doesn't belong in that particular forum, is because they're hearing it from someone who isn't a monitor. Its not our jobs to enforce the rules...if its still a big probelm just mention it to a monitor privately. God knows I'm on your side here...just saying why they're upset with it.

 •
Posted by: Crimson Clover Let's say John Smith creates a thread called "Halo 02 tips and tricks" in the Septagon. Okay, you come along and see it's in the wrong place, but you also see that they probably have no idea they're posting in the wrong place. So what you do, is tell them all the Halo 02 tips and tricks you know, and then as sort of an after thought, tell them, "In case you didn't know, John Smith, there are different Forums for different threads and this one belonged in New Mombasa. Thanks. I hope my post helped you. ;]" Now.. wouldn't you, as John Smith, like to see that response rather than no answer and a "This belongs in New Mombasa."? You would appreciate your question being answered even though it was in the wrong place and then probably apologize for not knowing you posted in the wrong place. That's just how I see it as. Tell me your thoughts. ;]
I agree, but i do try to answer any questions if there are any to the topic. And most of the time, its not even the guy who made the topic. Last time it was some guy who just got a login, and after he flamed me in the topic, he sent me a few messages too.

 •
Posted by: Canadiankamikazi Also, if I have posted something off topic, excuse me please. I have tried to make all my topics forum appropriate, but sometimes my posts meander... a click or so off to one side or the other...
See thats my point. A lot of the time its eitehr you made a mistake, or some of the newer members just don't know. So I just say some thing just to remind you or let you know where it belongs. its not like i harass them and say it in a mean way, I try to be as polite as possible.

 • Most of the time it is best to ignore those people, as talking to them will subsequently lower your IQ, and result in a flame war. Mods are a good idea, they have power, which sometimes leads to corruption. At least, that's what I learned in Contemporary World this year.

 • I would just ask anyone who wanted to kill me to calm down, chillax, and take a moment to smell the flowers. As they can see, there is no me, or you, or anything. All we are is a random bunch atoms that form what we call a whole. The only thing we have is our soul, or sense of self. Everything else is lended to us from a guy on high (or girl)... Also, if I have posted something off topic, excuse me please. I have tried to make all my topics forum appropriate, but sometimes my posts meander... a click or so off to one side or the other... I'm rambling, so I'm gonna stop. Pyromaniacs are guys who just like to be noticed. Give them some notice, sorta like back in the medieval ages and those witches...

 • Instead of bringing attention to yourself for them to flame, just PM a mod and tell them about the thread being off-topic or misplaced. They'll probably have no problem moving it.
