Empires is entirely different experience in that you can create your own character, start your own empire(now you can even marry and have children). It's turned based strategy game + hack n slash during the battles. You can look up footage of both games as they've been out in Japan for awhile. Extreme legends is usually just a new character added and you play missions from the original game. You can also look up game footage of this.

Lce is the original dw8 with a few things added. The empires games are typically different games entirely
