I agree whole heartedly.
When a studio has their entire cost of the game covered prior to launch, they have no incentive to assure a working high quality game. Just look at the several examples of games that launched completely broken this year (i.e. The Master Cheif Collection). A game should be complete at launch. Period. Even a launch patch upon playing the game for the first time should be unnecessary.
I'd also like to add that season passes should also be passed over by gamers. Pretty much for the same reasons.
