So this Thread clearly explains why the Networkglitch is in a whole other class than all the glitches/cheesing that did go on in the vault: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/85926505/0/0 FYI: At least three persons already got banned Edit:Bungie updates stats on Crotacompletes https://twitter.com/bungie/status/546107092885446656 Inb4 Banhammer EDIT: For all the Naysayers that say Bungie/sony couldn`t possibly distinguish between a random and a deliberate DC. 1.Lets just assume that there is a time-window of 5 seconds around the point where Crota kneels down to dc on purpose and use the glitch. 2.Let`s further assume that on average the ServiceProviers are reachable for 90% of the time (It`s actually more like 98%, but we will be very generous) 3.Since Crota has been “beaten” more than 160.000 times and a Raidteam consists of 6 people we will say: There are at least 1 Million chances to draw a disconnect during 2 hours (an average Raid takes this time). If we take the 10% from above we can say: 100,000 disconnects happened during all successful Crotaraids up to this point. So what is the probability that A DC happens randomly at the exact same time Crota goes down? Calculation: 2*3600/5 = 1440:= potential 5 second-time units of one single player during a successful raid 1,440,000,000= for all players Ergo The probability that a DC happens randomly at the moment where crota goes down for any Player is 100,000/1,440,000,000 = 6,94e -5 And for the special case that this DC concerns the Host: 1,16e -5 For comparison: The Probability of getting a Royal Flush in Poker: 2,57 e-5 Another Hopebubble busted by Math, sorry for that EDIT 2: I will also link to a prominent youtuber (Datto) that has the same opinion as the vocal group of "It`s a cheat not a chesse" on this forum. Since he works closely with bungie you can be sure that in one way or the other Glitchers will soon befall a special "Destiny": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O30249lCy1c&t=4m47s EDIT 3: This is how a big banwave looked in Halo:Reach (2010) courtesy of Bungie
Good evening, We are in the process of applying credit resets to approximately 15,000 users who we have identified as the most egregious Challenge Reset abusers. A one day credit earning ban has also been applied, mostly to ensure that recipients receive an in-game notification of the action taken. As with any such measure, we have taken the time to carefully select our criteria to eliminate false positives. A more comprehensive pass will be occurring in the coming week as our automated Banhammer mechanisms grow accurate enough to satisfy our high bar for burden of proof. If you are thinking about getting an easy 50k credits by using this exploit, I would strongly advise you to reconsider. Thank you, and please direct any discussion of these resets to this thread. Edit 1: a point of clarification. No bans were handed out tonight for a) Playing too much Gruntpocalypse (no such thing!) b) Using the target locator too much (no such thing!) Specifically, we targeted an exploit that allowed players to complete a Challenge 20+ times via intentional network manipulation (i.e., disconnects.) Spot checks have revealed the telltale signature of this behavior on every denier so far, so don't be fooled by the protests of innocence. We aren't. Edit 2: 1) If you have lost your Legendary Helmet or any other downloadable offers, you can re-download them via your Download History. We're not sure this is affecting anyone (we haven't reproduced it internally), but just in case it is, give this a try. 2) We won't be resetting Commendations, as we do not feel that the exploit used affected them. It would not be fair to people who did use the exploit but who wish to retain the record of their playstyle, and we cannot differentiate between the two systematically. Sorry. --- Cheaters, be wary of the Credit Reset!
Source EDIT 4: Cheaters have officially gotten a Carte Blanche from a Studio that is a shadow of its former self Bungie does not kick ass any more. I was a fool and the cheaters have taken over. I will now make a thread to suggest to ban anyone in the future that tries to make a thread about banning someone. Bungie clearly voted for the quick buck. I hope they will live happily ever after with you and your kind. Signing out ;-)

  • This was the old bungie. The new one doesn't care at all about the community.

  • I'm not gonna make a comment as to the morality of doing this, but rather, you math (by which I mean you mass guess work). There are so many assumptions that you make in your work its laughable. I mean I know you're trying to prove a point and all using over exaggerations. However, I doubt some people would recognize this for the over exaggerations they most assuredly are. For example: You do understand that in your post you claim that bungie is fine doing mass bannings, but in your example it is pointed out that they merely did "credit resets" right? What are they gonna do? Do insane research to look at every character for every account, look at every time they did the crota part, separate out the gear earned when 1 person in their fire team left at a precise moment and then take all those drops away? Or even better, ban all the players closely tied to a group the had someone leave? I would be surprised to find out that Bungie has the power to see that someone got to the crota part, their group said "let's cheese" 1 person said "no I'm leaving cause I don't wanna" and then they beat it 5 min later. I would bet they just see "yup, he was in the fire team, ban him" Really? They don't care THAT much. Also, I love how you assume that everyone's connections, speeds, and living situations are all the same. Example: some Ethernet cords or routers may not be up to par, some people have differing internet speeds (I know I know, I was shocked too), some people have other family members in the house that all the sudden suck up all the internet causing you to lose connectivity. Also, you aren't taking weather or local factors into consideration, even internet throttling is some countries. There was a underground cord problem with our service provider that caused our whole block to sporadically lose connection for a couple months once. I'm not saying all these things are common occurrences for everyone, but they sure as heck aren't as marginal as you think. Surely they don't count for only 10% of connectivity loss, and DEFINITELY not for only 2%. And that's not even including when xbox/PS networks go down (which is common if you've been awake at all the last couple months). TL;DR - If you're gonna try to use math and logic to prove a point, at least pretend you took into account the hundreds of different variables. And DEFINITELY don't make silly assumptions that imply everyone (or even most) play with ideal conditions all the time

They one have to tell us before they begin banning. Or at the very least to speak in some way about the glitch. You cannot blame players if you publish a heavily flawed and obviously rushed raid. Thats all on you bungie and even more so if you fail to address the fan base about the flaws in the raid.

    • Raid glitches, I'm sure most have lost more raids they should have beaten due to glitches in the raids themselves than have beaten it CHEESING or otherwise... I don't blame people honestly. With a raid such as this with such a small room for error, the added glitches such as sword bearer not dropping his sword can make the raid impossible. Clever people found a way around it, ultimately abusing it, but I can't blame them like I said.

    • The people using this cheat/cheese on Sony could be banned by Sony as it is a violation of the Eula. On Xbox1 it gets a little bit more gray as people are not disconnecting their network cable but just quiting the game using the Microsoft interface and restarting it. So they are not in violation of the Eula for network manipulation. That being said I don't see a mass banning happening over this anymore than it happens over Aethon or the Templar or loot cave.

      • They might ban the most frequent/serious offenders. I doubt the majority will be banned. It's against the code of conduct or whatever, but the end result is no different than cheesing the Templar or Atheon, or any other part of the raids. I bet it just gets patched before the hard mode and everything goes back to normal.

Atheon glitched more people than people who have exploited Crota. Regardless of that irrefutable statement, I doubt that Bungie will ban everyone who used this exploit. The grand majority of the community have cheesed it, even if they had done it legit in the past. I strongly believe the quantity of "purists" is less than a few thousand. If they ban or reset people, they risk loosing 95% (or higher) of the remaining player base. Also they did not ban people who humpty dumptied Atheon. Edit: I admit I presumed too much saying that less than 1000 active Destiny players are "purists." I have no way to know. I do strongly believe it's less than a few thousand, so I changed it to that.

          • There is a pride to certain players because they feel they can only reap satisfaction from a game by enduring the struggles around every turn. However, many players like myself play for both skill and efficiency. Being able to kill crota legit isn't the issue. Its having only so much time in a day to put towards a time demanding gear grind type of game that requires players to cheese a quick completion instead of grinding out hours doing things the "legit" way. Bungies previous bans also had to deal with players exploiting a glitch that gave them in game currency, which is not the same as one to three extra RNG rolls a week. If this was a glimmer glitch it might be bannable, but essentially all they can and will do is continue to patch the glitches as best they can to prevent easy completions and slow down progression of players, essentially keeping them online longer. That's all they care about. Cheesing raids isn't game breaking. In fact many players feel the slight relief from the usual time struggle keeps them happier and online more. Let me know if you agree.

            • Should we get rewards for every time the game glitches and screws us over with not coming back through the teleport for Atheon? Should people who find head glitches in nightfall strikes get perms banned? All those who shoot the gatekeeper from the steps in vog ban them as well. When bungie don't even give you a way to complete the raid from within the game and you have to go to external sources to find a team bungie need to look at more things than cheesers first

            • Blame bungie and rng to some extent and the extra currency and the ton of other bugs in the game. Why waste a couple of hours to get the same gun and gauntlets you already have. Why do it legit and struggle to get to 32 when with no matchmaking in game for raids getting a fireteam for hard at 31 can be difficult same as what happened at vog hard raid. It's a game if you want to do it legit be fireteam leader and make it clear that's what's happening and boot those who don't want to play that way.
