How to use Sniper Rifle in Crucible

I am very new to gaming (modern gaming anyways). In the first 4-6 weeks of playing destiny I couldn't break 500 points in Crucible. I worked at it and eventually could top the charts... since reduced to middle ranking in IB. Recently I thought I would expand my skills by learning to be a Sniper, but I don't get how to do it in Destiny. 1) I find that I settle into a spot and end up getting killed by someone with a euros regime or other high powered non-sniper gun... whats the point of a sniper rifle if the other guns have the same range without losing mobility or sight? Am I doing something wrong here? An example would be sniping by C facing B on Venus map (maat mons I think its called). 2) it seems like there are not many snipe points, so if I try to hunker down, I get maybe two kills until I am hunted down. Tips? Tricks?

  • Sniping is fun and challenging in this game cuz the maps are pretty small compared to other games where you can be an elite sniper. Best bet is learn the maps and find some spots but more likely than not you can just stay in one spot, hopefully you aren't those players who just camp cuz most of us know the maps already and I personally as soon as I die getting sniped I can find my way to the sniper and take him out real quick. I've sniped though as well and my advice is soon as you get a kill or so in that spot move cuz more likely the person or people you just killed will hunt you down. I've been able to sneak up on snipers everytime cuz they think can just camp at this one spot the whole match but not in destiny.

Move around a lot. If you get a kill never stay in that spot And use praedyths revenge. There's no reason to use any other sniper in pvp

      • Either get a longbow synthesis with an unlockable ambush scope, or keep playing crucible and pray rngeesus gifts you a sniper with an ambush scope/medium scope. Then you are set. It is impossible to headshot guardians with longer ranged scopes, so you'll find a much easier time tracking those pesky guardians running and jumping around.

          • It takes a little time to learn the sniping spots not all maps have good ones also head shots are crucial head shot 1 hit kill if you get a body shot you might be in trouble. Also remember when you're scoped in a red light appears so you've gotta not hard scope

          • learning to snipe may take alittle time to get into and a tip i can give you is you need to find the right sniper that works best for you since there are so many of them and practice with it in PVE. and here's a trick or a Note. dont expect to be ready for pvp after pve cause sniping in both pvp and pve is toatally different. i got some good snipers in my vault and sure would love to give you one if i could.

          • Getting two kills is about right, at least for me. Snipe move an snipe again. A good sniper for pvp is patience and time; it is an exotic sniper rifle that keeps GPS up while aiming and also cloaks you for a short time.

              • Don't camp, people will find out where you are the second you fire the first shot. -Take a shot or two, then move to a different position (unless you are with teamates, holding down a position). Never scope in for more than 5 seconds -people see a red dot where your scope is, if they know where you are, they can kill you -scoping takes away your radar, leaving you extremely vulnerable Use the lowest possible zoom (the ambush scope) -most maps are small, it gives a wider FoV, and isn't nearly as clunky -makes it much easier to scope in quickly, and track targets Use a primary that you are very comfortable with (in CQC) -you need to have close-mid-range capabilities, which do not come with a sniper. -All weapon types but scout rifles will work in this situation; good choices would be Vex Mythoclast, The Last Word, Bad Juju, Suros Regime, etc.

              • You dont sit in one spot, you move around the map and peg people when the system seems fit

              • Sniper can two shot someone or at best, one shot headshot. So when an enemy team is taking an objective I always just send sniper shots in. You're bound to do a good level of damage.

Here's my two cents. reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMaAzrLVlxU&feature=youtu.be In general you want to play it like a quarterback or point guard. Keep everything in front of you. try to know where everybody is while remaining hidden yourself and creating lines of sight with subtle movements. If you notice in my gameplay I always have my snipe pointing in the general direction of where I think the enemy is while moving around the map without looking at where the obstacles are. This is important. You want to always have your eyes down field, so to say, while maintaining movement. movement is key to getting different angles. People think good snipers just camp in the back of the map and pick people off, but that couldn't be further from the truth. you need to move not only to throw people off as to where you are, but also to create angles. While there are better spots for sniping than others, lines of sight for sniping can be created basically anywhere. Just know where they're coming from, find a spot near cover, and above all RELAX. Good snipers are relaxed snipers. Even under fire be relaxed. You'll never get anywhere if you panic or get too excited when someone is in your reticle. Oh, and practice zoom before the enemy is where you think they'll be just to know where your aim is so you can adjust. I constantly zoom in and out just to know where the reticle is. Once you get the hang of it you'll never want to put the snipe down. It'll be like playing a whole new game.

              • Use positions where the enemy can't immediately engage you in a close quarters engagement. Be mindful of the angles you can get shot from because this can also help you when you're counter sniping someone else's position. Sniping with radar on can be difficult unless your teammates cover your close range gunfights for you. It's very easy for anyone to just teleport their way right to you before you can get a shot off. Whenever I'm in a standoff with another sniper I try to mentally picture where his head would be if I turn the corner. If I know they're aiming directly at me I'll 3rd PoV myself to look around the corner to get a good idea of where his head is in comparison to the environment around him. Invisibility really helps when you're in a snipe off because it makes it more difficult for the opponent to know exactly where your head is at.

Don't camp, don't be predictable, and play smart. All there is to it. Also strafe and snipe never stand still and shoot.

                • Check my snipe record. I love it. I still to this day yell out BOOOOOOM!!!! HEDSHAAAAHHT!!!! Follow me around, I'll show you some spots, but rule #1 in sniping PvP: shoot and scoot. Don't fall in love with a spot and never pop back up in the same place if you didn't get the kill unless you like a 1.0 kdr. Work a zone, move on. Defend the zone, don't camp the spawn. It's ok to be a dedicated snipe junkie without being an A-hole. Just saying.

This is Coming from an auto rifle user. Just like another guy said a sniper is a secondary so use it as such. Take shores of time for instance I use auto holding b but if there's a guy coming from A or C I pull out snipes. Its very situational. To get better I suggest using a sniper tht has a lot of stability. Then once u got the hang of tht grave one that has little and it WILL help you. Also turn down your sensitivity to like 3 and it should help. Any slower and you won't be so agile. Oh an if it wasn't obvious aim for neck. High impact makes it a head shot plus it's easyer to hit.

                • Sniper rifles aren't mains in this game, you're trying to main as a sniper. How you're supposed to do it is, if you see an enemy far away you switch to your sniper (which is a secondary) sniper them, and then do a quick circle of it, switch back to your primary and be on your way

                • Don't try to snipe exclusively. Use a primary until you have spotted an enemy that's out of range or you know is going to come into range. Camping with a sniper and waiting for people to come to you is going to net you very few kills and you won't be contributing much to your team.

                • Run and gun, when you see red on your radar, ads in that direction and if a guy appears, boom, headshot. Seriously though, dont camp, you make easy targets for other snipers
